  1. Brown chromexcel I've been wearing for a year and a just-finished natural double garrison. I've been searching for a good solid brass double garrison buckle for a long time, and finally sourced some last week. I think its the same one that Master Hollows uses. Not sure I love the teardrop holes - they are either cool or gimicky, I haven't fully formed an opinion yet. Either way I'm excited about the new belt.

  2. Sometimes its fun to see how designs evolve. Here is the first version of what I call "The Original Park Sloper," designed last summer for and named by my cousin who is a singer/songwriter living in Brooklyn. It fits moleskine volant notebooks and a fisher stowaway space pen.

While using it, I wanted easier access to the cards and the bills, so that lead to version 2, which I carry all the time and love:

More pics and full story of the original design here.

And here is my old design of its bigger brother the "Sloper Senior," the Field Notes size wallet following the same idea:

And I've just finished the similar update, moving the cards to vertical positions and ditching the folded front cover:

Because of the folded design of the pen sleeve basically doubling the thickness of the back cover, thicker leathers like Chromexcel dont work that well for these wallets. I like my wallets slim! Turns out 3oz Hermann Oak bridle leather is just perfect. Great to work with, nice n' thin and a little firm, which is great for this larger model (less floppy). The first pic is Havanna Brown with golden brown thread from Maine Thread, the second is black with grey thread.

On a great tip from Corter, I ordered a custom hole punch for the pen sleeve holes and it should be here next week. I can't wait to not have to cut those by hand!

Hope this was fun for someone out there! Next up, a slimmer billfold design I've had brewing for a while... Craft on, crafties.

  3. Faler, thanks for the info! I see some of your change pouches on the insides of wallets (seen on your tumblr) do not have a snap or flap or other type of closure. Is this because once it breaks in pretty well, that flap stays closed on its own? Saw this and was intrigued...

Thanks One Star...I don't hand dye my leathers (hardly ever, I don't like the smell nor can I do as good/consistent of job as the tannery) I buy all of my leathers in the colors you see. When I first started crafting I dyed leathers by hand but really I never could get them to look professional, especially after time and wear. I like those straps!

  4. Aight, back to posting awesome shit you've made. I'll start. Two cordovan watch bands. The #8 is full nato style, and the black is a simplified nato - one piece, which I prefer. It is the same sort of look as a full nato, but only one layer of leather under the watch means it sits nice and close to your wrist - especially good if you have a thick mechanical watch like the Damasko pictured. Both are with Zulu style hardware. Tag, you're it.

oh, and PS. Faler: that stuff you posted above looks amazing. I still havent figured out how to dye veg tanned leather with the sort of evenness you exhibit in your "medium brown" color. I apply mine with a sponge and without fail it comes out streaky and ugly. Share tips if you are willing...

  5. wicked smaht. might work! there is not a lot of space in there, but i love the idea of a pocket for those little annoying keychain grocery cards. I appreciate your thoughts!

Nice dude. You could open up that square section in the middle to hold SD cards or even make it a bit wider to hold those keychain sized store savings cards, that'd be pretty rad.

  6. Bang. Hit the nail on the thread head. Royalwood it is. They are very nice to deal with. The color swatch on that page you've linked to shows all the colors and thicknesses really well. I use their 4 ply and their 7 ply, although I wish they had a 5 or 6--the 4 sometimes is just a hair too thin. The spools in my photo are the 4 ply.

thread mini review: Love it. Not to waxy, threads easily, cool color selection - the aforementioned 5-6 ply size missing is my only gripe. 4-ply works great for finer work and the 7 ply is nice n meaty.

Thanks corter. Yeah, I've been toying with the black edges or not. I think with the murdered out black thread, it would be nice. Although I just did a black one with natural stitching and i think i prefer the contrasting stitching look, and the brown edges are more passable with that.

And yeah, I'm definitely in the market for a custom punch. PITA is right. I have a couple places I'm looking at, but do people have recommendations for a custom punch? Businesses they'd like to support?

I have a "Park Sloper, Sr." as well, just a larger design following the same idea for the person who wants a larger notebook with the same functionality. Here it is. Though the next one will have deeper card pockets...

    carry on.

after a little digging, and knowing that onestar only uses irish linen.... this might be it:

the spools he's showing look to be about the right size too.

if i'm totally wrong, onestar, please let me know.

also, do you mind giving a mini review on the thread? how waxy is it?

  7. My cousin, a Brooklyn native, called me up and asked me to design a piece for him. He is a singer/songwriter (The Reverend John Delore), and wanted an “as small as possible†wallet/notebook that he could carry with him at all times so when inspiration strikes, he's ready.

He named it “The Park Sloperâ€, after his neighborhood, and it is a micro notebook and wallet in one. It uses the smallest size Moleskine Volant notebooks (2.5â€x4â€), and the pen slot is sized for a Fischer Space Pen Stowaway. I liked the design so much, I carry it now too. Pretty sweet to always have a pen and paper handy.

    Craft on, crafties.

  8. Wow, no kidding. The mirror finish on that multicolor edge burnish? Amazing. http://www.niwaleathers.com/products/index.html

There's a lot of craftsmen that are way better too. Plus my knowledge and skills are still considered pretty limited and narrow.

Take this guy that I recently found on the net for instance. I don't think he hand sews everything, but even if they aren't, they're still mind blowing in every other rights. It is true artisans like them that really humbles me.

Besides, I take way too much time per item for converting to full time to be viable.

  9. >>onestar, thanks! those are some nice watches for sure, but i have to say i'm partial to my luminox. i've beat it up for the past 12 years and it's never failed me.

Yup, I have one too, and they can take a beating! The all black with the burgundy looks amazing.

  10. 3 pocket card wallet. First pic is my wallet, an alternate version of the one I sell, with a money flap instead of a card pocket on the left of the inside. Loving this design. I've made a bunch for friends and such, but decided to cast a wider net. So I just opened at Etsy storefront. More stuff to come. Working on a billfold design now. http://www.etsy.com/...tarLeatherGoods
