So sad, I could see the flames for both fires.

Unsure whether they should restore the listed building (they have very detailed plans so will just cost a lot of money) or to get a new architect

  2. panzer: got the black one last summer, they are supercomfortable, only wish they had another rubber band over the end of the shelltoe. grab them while they last, they are cheap too.

Cheers, how did you size seeing as they're womens shoes (assuming you're a guy?)

Very jealous. Tryna make a move away from the laptop and I just got a Focusrite Saffire 6 for free and still figuring out what to get for my first synth. And what sequence/groovebox to get. All on a tight budget, sometimes think its better to stick with soft synths for the price. Got a long way to go

  4. Take5 in Siam Squre (inside Lido) is a great shop and there are loads of cool little independent shops around Siam Square. below are a couple links to help you locate some shops I found useful. Chatachuk is the ultimate market experience but be prepared to hunt out the good stuff.

Also check out asiateque, it's a evening/night place that's got 2or 3 nice vintage shops and some cool thai brands. Plenty places to eat there.

Enjoy BKK its my favourite city!

Thanks for the advice! I can't wait to go! Any advice on the best way to get around the city? Also, Khao San Road - good, bad, fun? Do you know roughly prices of clothes there from the types of shops you mentioned or are the prices all over the place?

  5. Going to Thailand next week for a month. Can anyone recommend any cool must-see shops in Bangkok? Vintage clothing ones and generally cheap ones would be great as I don't have a lot of money to spend. Not really sure what market to go to while I'm there either.

While I'm at it, anything anyone thinks is a must-do in Thailand in general?

  6. I think the clarification for a few people asking about sewing machines is that you cant "add" a walking foot to a non wf machine. It is a completely different machine. There is no way to convert a regular machine, industrial or otherwise to a walking foot. its not super easy, but with some detective work you can find info about compound feed walking foot machines and what makes them work, and ypu can also find names,of machines to look for. Your easiest bet is to get an old upholstery machine to start with, its really the only "cheap" way to get into the world of industrial sewing machines. This forum is really not a great resource for machine info cause most people who post here sew by hand. I hope this helps anyone looking fr a sewing machine. its pretty easy to google a list of popular wf machines.

Just trying to get my head around this! So what would the difference be in attaching this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Singer-Walking-Even-Feed-Foot-/160761974290?pt=UK_Crafts_Sewing_Supplies_MJ&hash=item256e290e12#ht_500wt_1202 to a machine (that previously didn't have a walking foot) and using a machine that already had a walking foot?

By the way, I think I'm gonna try my luck with a Singer 201K as they seem to be the most readily available in the UK.

    Thanks

  7. Does anyone have any info on the Singer 660 sewing machine? How thick material can it handle? Can I get a walking foot for it? There are a few being sold near me but I can't find much info about it online except for this http://reclaimedwrec...nd-product.html where she claims to use it on tire rubber? Should I buy?

http://parts.singerco.com/IPsvcManuals/660A202.pdf here is the manual, so its got a pressure foot, no way I can buy a walking foot for it?

  8. Thanks for the quick replies guys! Honestly I just don't want to spend a lot on a sewing machine as I am just beginning this, like for whatever reason if it doesn't work out I will have wasted a lot of money, though I guess I can sell it again....I think i'm gonna look for the ones you recommended superjunkie and then if I really like what I'm doing I won't mind investing a lot more into it. Now ima play the waiting game till I find something for a good deal.

  9. Hi guys, so I went on Leatherworker and was recommended sewing machines that cost near $1000! Do I need one so expensive? I'd be making wallets, cases, maybe purses, etc with leathers of around 1mm thickness, like chrome tan leathers or printed cow hide. I know eBay is notorious for saying sewing machines can cope with leather and can't, but I was wondering if I could get your opinions on these machines, and why they are suitable or not. Can I use a semi-industrial machine? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Outstanding-Heavy-Duty-Jones-Brother-Sewing-Machine-Dropfeed-Instructions-/120872639974?pt=UK_CraftsCollect_SewingMachines_RL&hash=item1c24921de6#ht_3023wt_1185

Thanks! Didn't realise equipment would be so expensive.....

  10. Yeah, I was gonna just start trying to make simpler wallets to get a feel for it. Seeing as its really only practice the quality of leather shouldn't matter too much I think, you reckon I can get leather for cheap of eBay? Again, thanks so much for the help! Pretty excited about starting this

  11. Alright thanks for the quick reply! Now to look into getting a sewing machine.... Can anyone recommend a good cheap one I can begin with that can handle around 1mm thick leather. From what you're saying I gather that I don't need a stitching awl, etc either? All i need is a sewing machine, needles, sewing thread, leather and patterns, and zips if needed I guess? Also, sorry to be asking so much, but anyone have any websites that'll help me get started with patterns and type of stitching needed in different situations? Really appreciate the help!

    Thanks

  12. Hey guys, I've been wanting to get into making my own stuff for a long time and now finally gonna have a bit of free time to do this! But before going crazy and buying stuff I wanted to ask a couple of questions!

Ok, so basically I want to make more modern (probably wrong word to use lol) wallets and bags than seen here. Just what I'm in to. Like the Comme des Garcons Wallets or this case http://www.oki-ni.com/icat/accessories/jil-sander-mens-ipad-python-show-bag/invt/js1235top or this http://www.ssense.com/men/product/marc_by_marc_jacobs/nifty_gifty_python_backpack/45764?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=products&utm_term=45764. After reading through a lot of this thread I don't think most of you guys are into that stuff but I thought I might still be able to get some help. I assume the leathers are thinner than the majority used here? What basic equipment will I need to make a simple wallet. Can I hand-stitch these? Should I try and make more normal stuff first like the things seen here for practice? Anything else you think I need to know before I attempt anything?

    Thanks!
