  1. Slim cut. Its raining outside or I'd snap them today, I have to wait until this weather gets a bit better.

My personal assessment of the fit is that I really like the high rise, but I still get a bit of hip flare on these even though I feel like they have settled as much as they're going to. I blame it on being too skinny for the cut.

  2. I always give away or sell my jeans when they don't fit or when I've faded them enough...

    Japan Blue x Momotaro 0101, 4 months

Paul Rose Products 17oz slim cut, less than 1 month

Naked & Famous 19oz Elephant Slimguy, 12-15 months

    Filson slim cut, 1 month

is what I rotate right now, about to get rid of the elephants.

  3. I'm not seeing the Momotaro T-shirts anywhere on your website. Jay has been telling me he's eventually going to re stock those, but it sounded like it would be a while out. I've been trying to track down a red one in small myself.

  4. The inseam is at a solid 33" from 34.75" and that was with me hanging them by the legs but heres the post soak fit pics

(My balls are fine guys  I had a good amount of room prior to the soak)

Edit: But could anyone with 3XXX denim experience tell me how much stretch to expect?

This is a perfect fit, fuck the haters. Only thing I don't like visually is the rise on you but its probably comfortable anyway.

  5. I hate to order online but I was going to get some Dukes for my friend and I and I was wondering how they size compared to n&f skinny guys in the waist. Not too concerned with the fit everywhere else, just how the waist fits. I'm a 28-29 and he's a 30.

  6. A mixture of sulphur/indigo...much cheaper, hence the retail price and this makes it a hard to fade jeans...

Keep on wearing them, they'll fade beautiful at the end!

    Cheers

Oh cool, I was wondering about that. I can't really smell very well, so I never noticed the sulphur dye when they were new. Its leading to some interesting properties in the fading, mainly that the areas that tend to fade in gradual wear (the seat, knees, thighs) are staying really dark, but all of the creases are fading noticeably. They've also developed this gray/dark hue with age, more noticeably on my friend's pair than mine. But its very obvious when you compare it along side the spare fabric I have from my hems.

I have plans to give these at least a year of wear, but that may be difficult as *rumor* has it that there is going to be a momotaro (not japan blue) release in a similar cut to the JB101s.

  7. Hi there, i just bought a pair of Momotaro Japan Blue JB101 Skinny Denim, and i have to say that so far im loving them.

They are a little on the tight side for my waist, in fact i cant even get the top button done. Everything else fits perfect though. Should these stretch after a week or so after wearing them around the house? My apcs stretched about 3inches overall!

I know there are posts already on stretching jeans out but none particularly for this model...

    Thanks guys!

Just wearing them around should stretch them. I'm not sure if they will stretch enough if you can't get that top button done though. When I got mine I could button them all the way but it was quite difficult. I'm about 4 months of effective wear in and now they've stretched so much I need to belt them until I finally break down and wash them. And I'm at the exact same body weight and measured waist size as I was when I bought them. So there is quite a bit of room for them to stretch but not as much as say APC's. If I remember right it took a long time for mine to stretch initially but they did eventually.

Speaking of washing my JB x Momotaros, what detergent would you guys recommend? I've heard good things about Dr. Bronson's, is that the way to go? Or is it worthwhile to get a denim detergent?

  8. My elephant 1's are soft & fuzzy after a year, 1 soak, and 2 washes. It really gets nice with age. I'm just wishing I got them in skinny's and not slim's. They take forever to break in though.

  9. damn it shrank a lot. im guessing everything else shrank a bit too right?

thanks for posting up ur results btw

edit: i checked up on blueowl for paulrose and the shrinkage they predicted is way less dramatic than what you got, they basically say to expect no more than a 1" in shrinkage. guess it varies from jean to jean

I just measured again to confirm and yeah, they sit between 31.5" and 32" depending on how hard I tug on the denim. I'm sure you can get at least another half inch to inch out of them if you were to tug on the inseam while they were soaking. I didn't because I'm short and I like the chainstitch the jeans came with.

They did shrink up quite a bit everywhere. For reference I went with a size 29, which was quite tight at the waist, but there was like a full inch of extra space at my hips, which went away upon soaking. I'm quite surprised to say that shrinkage in the waist was minimal for me, though I was worried they would shrink too much so I wore them for about a week around my house in their raw state to get some stretching out of the way beforehand. After soaking + wearing the jeans around, the waistband feels to be only slightly looser than it was brand new.

The higher rise/adjusted upper block fit is excellent and is really what turned me on to these jeans, as I don't normally wear weirdguys. I'm hoping that the upcoming WGH cut is close to this.

I'd really like to hear someone else's results as well though, because I feel that it's a little strange that I got so much shrinking in the inseam and so little in the waist.

    photos please..

im interested for having a pair of paulrose

I'll have some fit pictures up in a couple days, whenever the Seattle weather allows for it.

    Really great for the price.

Yeah I have the JB101's and my friend has the JB100's, and they've been my favorite jeans since I bought them. There really isn't enough love for these. The denim itself is obviously not the same quality as your regular Momotaros but its still quite nice denim and it blows most everything out of the water at its $200 price point. I just love them because they're the only skinny fit Momotaros for the time being.

I'll get back to the thread with some pictures of our JB101/JB100's when my friend gets back into town, if I can convince him to clean his jeans for some pictures. Both pairs are about 6mo old, daily wear, mine are dry and his are 1 wash and quite a bit more faded than mine.

  11. what are the differences in denim of the ST-120x (shadow selvedge denim), PBJ-007, momotaro grand indigo jeans, n&f slub/slub indigo jeans? to me they all seem similar in a sense

The difference between these and your standard jeans is that the weft fibers (inside of the jeans) are dyed indigo or black instead of the usual gray. This leads to the fades having more contrast (though in my experience they take a little longer to show up at first, probably because some of those jeans are overdyed too) and a cool electric blue type contrast to them that normal jeans don't have.

    indigo warp + black weft

    ST-120x

    Momotaro Grand Indigo

    indigo warp + indigo weft

    PBJ-007

    N&F Slub Indigo/Indigo

I have no idea what the difference between a black or indigo weft would have on the fades, they seem to produce about the same effect to me. Some of those models are newer, but you should be able to easily find evolution pictures of the PBJ-007's and Momotaro Grand Indigos if you want to see what I mean by crazy high contrast fades.

  12. damn i guess i'll check out holts next year

please get post back to this thread on how much the denim shrinks. im interested in buying a pair of the slim fits and i was wondering how much the inseam might shrink after. i love stacks on my denim too much. i wonder why brandon chose 34" inseam compared to regular 37" for n&f

    Ok

I went with the smallest size I could button (29) and after a 20 minute cold soak the fit is perfect in the seat & legs. I was worried the waist may shrink too much, or that the legs & seat wouldn't shrink enough but it worked out for me.

I'll measure out the inseam when these finish drying, because I want to be sure its accurate, but right now I can tell you that if you're tall these won't stack much. I'm pretty short at 5'9 and I'm not going to hem them.

  13. I know this is a more general question but I have a pair of the 17oz PaulRose Products jeans that I've been wanting to soak, and I was wondering about how long I would need to soak them in cold water for to get the shrinkage out of the way? I'm not trying to leave them in too long & lose a lot of indigo, these are fading quickly already. They're unsanforized if this helps.
