  1. When mine were new my foot would only just slide into them. it took some doing. They'd get stuck and i'd have to push and wiggle to get them on but they would always go on.

once on they were always fine. getting them off was impossible without a boot jack.

as big truck mentioned they got easier over time as they broke in. i still use a boot jack if one is handy but they will come off without one.

they're excellent boots if you can get over that difficult new stage. hope your's come back better matt.

  2. got to agree matt. they were almost impossible to get on when new as others mentioned on this thread.

mine are now just right and come on and off easy enough and no slipping either. mine got easier day by day. the first few weeks were a killer though.

i didn't have any of these issues with the studded ones.

  3. stick with them matt. still wearing mine daily and they're now soft as slippers. they were about the hardest engineers i've ever broke, maybe my first 2268's were as tough but i can't really remember.

  4. I picked up a pair of Lee '37's from Aero and really like them, I wore them yesterday for the first time and wore them dry. The tag says 38waist and 33leg but the leg is nearer 38 at least! I've got some pretty major turn ups / cuffs as I've got shorter legs!

Should I expect any shrinkage in leg length? If not I may get them taken up. Is there anywhere in the UK recommened to take up Lee's?

    Cheers all

my 36 waist lee's will shrink down to approx 37 inside leg with a warm soak. not much and no wear near 33 so you may want to have them hemmed once you've soaked them.

I can recommend ironheart for hemming. http://www.ironheart.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=101

  5. tightened the instep strap on both my rrl engineers. I have a hole punch for leather work and popped a couple of extra holes in the strap. i also wear insoles and they don't slip. I find most engineers need the instep strap adjusting tighter for me.

  6. Thanks. The cape skin on this one is really soft like second skin. I think I'm going to be putting it up for sale.....

PM me if anyone is interested.

thanks but a 48 is too big for me. john ought to buy it back just to show customers how good his stuff gets!

  7. as i understand it yanansi the rrl engineers you see in the pictures above are all julian made. the murdock produced ones are quite different. this is all mentioned a couple of pages back on this thread.

  8. i've used mink oil and some leather balm that really worked well. the colour change is mostly my camera as i pretty much only fed the area around the ankle.

i have one of those lee boot pulls in your picture. i use it on all my boots but it's essential with these. i bought it about 8 years ago on ebay for next to nothing. i think it's made in the 70's judging from the lee logo.

  9. i've been feeding mine to help the leather soften and taking extra time putting them on so. i stop when they're half on so i guess my feet have been doing what rkusmant's cobbler did by stretching them out.

they're tough boots. i've found with mine that when they break in and the whole boot softens up they then get a lot easier to get on and off but i know that's a catch 22 when you can't get them on in the first place. i was lucky enough to be able to just about squeeze into mine so i could get on with breaking them in. i think i've mentioned this before that i had a pair of red wing 2268's once that were exactly the same to get on and off as these and once broke in were okay but they took some breaking in!

  10. another round of rrl engineer boots, back from cobbler for instep stretching, now it's nice and snug, shall loosen up with wear

I thought it was only the brown engineers that were tight? either way glad they're sorted and ready to go. well done, 15 mins is too long to get a pair of boots on!

my brown rrl's are finally over the break in stage and getting comfy to wear now as well as easier to get on and off.

  11. thanks heech.

slab i'm not expert on a2 contracts and all their details. i like an a2 to look right and original as far as it's shape and general appearance goes. on those points the kelso does the job for me. i guess you've seen their site so you know what you get. For the money they cost new you could probably pick up a used eastman if you're an average size but i'm not average at 6'2". i bought it off a guy for $250. he didn't like it so passed it on without wearing it.

  12. thanks sunday. mine fitted better before i dropped 20lbs. nice to fit loads of stuff that i'd grown out of but i think it's a touch big and i have a sweatshirt on under it too.

i got it to shrink a touch with a boiling hot soak followed by a blast in the dryer but just not enough.
