Does any of you know rigid 501 made in Mexico with code 501-1931? I saw two pairs in local store with this code but with different description. One was with orange paper on back pocket saying Shrink to Fit.
Second was with white paper not saying STF. Both look identical with selvedge.
Are these really STF and Cone Mills?
Some owner said shrinkage was minimal 0.5 inch on inseam. Very confusing for me.
BTW, who is responsible for such a ugly back pocket shape design in 501 year 2013-2015?

Are these originals or fake? Selvedge on coin pocket?

Do you guys know if these are orginal Lee (from archive collection)?
Seller has written "made in china - labels are in this language", but I guess these are from Japan (both language looks similar to east-Europe people).
Is it 1952, 101Z archive replica?

Maynard,
101S - slim, button fly, sometimes also in "rider" version (with back pockets placed higher)
101Z - standard, zip fly
101L - logger
101B - buckle (cowboy jeans)
and 101J - jacket

At least back pocket arc shape, colour of stitching.
Compare with this:

BTW, I prefer these from meadowweb.

Another LVC 1954:

"LVC reproduces the fits, fabrics and details of bygone eras..." bla bla bla
Every season the same model looks totally different.

I don't know any info. regarding source of denim. The most popular left-hand denim in Lee is Kaihara (12-13 oz) from Japan.
Maybe your jeans are coated version or something...
When I saw your model in the website, I thought it was fake. But now... I really don't know.
Mine 101Z (both 12,5oz and 23oz) are made in Turkey, as usual.
I also had one 101Z (12,5oz) made in Poland. I am sure these are original as well, and look the same as turkish.

Usually (95%) Lee 101 (S and Z) are made of left-hand denim.
Your version is not so common and is right-hand. Also your selvedge does not look typical (very thin).
I have seen these on one or two web-shops.
Poland does not produce denim fabric. They make jeans (Levi's and Lee) in Lodz city in Poland.
They use denim from Japan and Turkey.

Bobbo, have you noticed any shrinkage in your Lee 23oz after soaking?
My brand new pair is just perfect and I have not washed/soaked them yet. I do not not want ANY shrinkage. Labels are a little bit confusing (sanforized and "can shrink one size").

Have you seen this LVC bag before? Is it based on any vintage type?

ok, but why there is no ® on the Red Tab. As far as I know Levi's started to use ® in 50's.

Are these original? (not LVC replica)

But these look suspiciously:
http://www.ebay.com/...=item1e6fc46ab0
("These are not reproduction, Mostlike late 50’s early 60’s they are rare...") - with small "e" on Red Tab?

Thanks. Then these are original (tag says 08 - 2008).
(by "paper label" I meant the tag. The patch is made of leather.)

Paul, should 501 1947 LVC have ® on the Red Tab?
These on Cultizm do not have this. But I can find some, looking originally (with paper labels and so on, perhaps from 2008) LVC Rigid 1947 on e-bay with ® on the Red Tab.

OK, thanks guys! That confirms what I thought of these jeans

when you check once a month that your 1 brand new pair of raw, unwashed, rigid, 16oz, selvedge jeans in your closet, is in perfect condition.
and you remind your wife once a month: "this denim is my funeral clothing, I want to have on me in the coffin/casket".
And you advice your wife to prepare the same set, just in case, for herself...

I thought zipper version (Z) of 501 are always sanforized. Now I know - I was mistaken.
At least Cultizm.com says - 501z are shrink to fit.

Paul, are these original 1947? (more than 60 years old?)

What do you think about new 1947's back pocket (arcs)? And arcs vary in each washed version... ehhh :/

It does not look authentically to me... I prefer 2011 version.

Denimdart, try these jeans with double cuff... I would like to see how it looks then.

Nickel is toxic, and science knew this more than 15 years ago. That means LVC does not "improve" their products quickly enough...
IMO, LVC did not think about this issue. At least, it was not the main reason for changing material.

Levi's 501 Shrink to Fit (STF)
in superdenim
Posted · Edited by no-svg
Is every selvedge STF 501 from small "e" collection made from Cone Mills?
I had some Made in Poland and Made in Turkey selvedge STF, and I wonder where denim for those jeans comes from.
Do they transport selvedge denim to Poland from USA, in order to produce STF selvedge? Or does Poland have any shuttle looms in Polish Levi's factory?
