  1. anyone know of a good site to use to find/buy good backpacks? obvs i understand this might be a difficult question but I'm on the hunt for a new backpack and really havent seen anything i like (porter is cool but over priced imo, NFP would be cool but not big enough)..

    I like Topo Designs.

  2. In case they don't get it....

Point taken, but I have a vintage 60/40 Sierra Designs that I took out into an actual hiking trip. Fun as hell, but a slight downpour got me drenched. I'm all for vintage blends, etc, but I like useful clothing. However...now that I think about it, isn't 60/40 supposed to be treated eventually? I didn't do much to prepare it, except wash it before using...

  3. 22. there is a lot going on atm for me.. a lot has changed in my life socially and otherwise in the last few months. basically everything i used to spend my time doing (weed, videogames, internet, girlfriend, frat) has either disappeared or is no longer enjoyable so i'm scrambling to find stuff to replace those activities with.

i can usually stay above water mood/depression wise if i'm dancing everyday but i hurt my ankle a couple days ago so that's a no go. need to meet new people but that's not something i ever really spent effort on so it's a slow process.

Come rock climbing. Get fit, meet chicks and do really awesome things.

  4. ^ screwed myself over financially many a time because i deal with self-discipline issues. it's almost like i have a disconnect with the amount of money in the bank and the amount i think i have. ughhhh

on a similar note, i can't get myself to concentrate on a subject without the assistance of meds. any tips, sufu study club?

tl;dr – turn off your computer, write shit on paper.

Just fb messengered this chick I been all about for like a year or so even though she's rejected me over and over. Shell hit me up sometimes and I get those damn hopes up. I don't know why I like this bitch. Hit her up on fb messenger and hoe logged out. Feel like a super creeper right now.

Yo Snap, imo if its really really something you want to do why not go for it? Maybe find a job in between time to eat and kop shit and just keep your eyes open for an opportunity?

Facebook game is djraijo territory. Unless you're pulling in 10s at the club and bar, keep all that shit IRL. It's way too easy for bitches to misinterpret attraction as creepiness.

  5. why would anyone major in philosophy. I just don't understand it. I'd be super interested in how people think it applies or is worth the investment.

A friend of mine dual-majored in compsci engineering and philosophy. I had another double-major in math/philosophy. I knew another guy who was a philosophy major but then went on to work in heavy database coding. Philosophy seems to go hand-in-hand with hard sciences, I'm assuming the existential and logical aspect appeals to a lot of techy guys.

  6. damn..rip marco simoncelli, too young. fucked up.

I saw that shit. I saw the front tire impact the cervical region and was like, FUCK. I didn't even notice the helmet come off, but just the old neuroscience mnemonic, "C3-4-5 keeps the diaphragm alive..." went through my head.*

*Cervical Nerves 3, 4, 5 innervate the phrenic nerve, which innervates the diaphragm and keeps it functional. Otherwise, hello respiratory failure.

:( RIP Simoncelli, he was destined to be one of the greats, if his last few years are any indication.

  7. Not trying to be a jackass, but I feel like as much as the top members here talk shit about people beasting over stuff, it seems like this is getting beasted into the ground. I mean, the stuff is quality and all and its nice to have affordable uc jawns, but really? Maybe im missing something.

jus' wanna look like I stepped out of Tron. I'm going to leave this here :

    – and now imagine yourself running in GYAKOSOU clothing from a massive robot.
  8. mang

    just keep it simple

    pizza from scratch

and get her involved while making it

I second this. Women love actively participating in cooking, but it's also super easy to catch some 'intimate' moments while in a cramped kitchen.

Bonus if you pour wine before to 'ease things into a cooking mood'.

I suggest the following recipe for DIY pizza : http://www.macheesmo.com/2011/03/cast-iron-pizza/

If you are good at planning, you can have everything already set-up for fool-proof cooking the day before, and just be able to chill in the kitchen for ~ 30-45 minutes. In my perspective, this is just enough time for some pre-foreplay moves, but not long enough that the woman gets bored.

Super bonus if you both whip up a quick antipasto to nibble on while making pizza. Good luck! :o

  9. what are you planning on cutting on? your kitchen table?

obviously some of it is purely common sense, if you don't feel you need to purchase a cutting board then don't. If you want to use the awl and a straight edge to score your stitching line then you wouldn't need a stitch groover. Clearly all of the tools recommended serve legitimate functions. The more tools you work with the more specific tasks you can accomplish. You might not even need an awl, you could just use a nail and a hammer?

I already have a cutting board, knife, etc. I suppose I'm looking for extremely introductory books / sites on leather-working : I tried reading through leatherworker.net and most of the links were down.

I've looked at the Tandy Leather 'beginner' kits, and most of it seems filled with dross that I don't need to do basic leatherworking. I understand simontundeler's point that each tool does have its necessary function, but for a beginner leatherworker, it's easy to get overwhelmed over all the things needed.

I will definitely be purchasing more tools eventually, but for someone who's looking to establish mere basics, sewing and putting leather scraps together – am I barking up the wrong tree / where should I look at for introduction?

    Thanks. :)

  10. Hi, I want to make this : http://blog.leathercraftlibrary.com/2011/03/24/new-project-carson-credit-card-case-with-charlie-davenport/

However, I'm looking at the 'required' supplies, and it seems completely overkill.

Would the following list be the bare minimum I need to make this, input appreciated!

    > Stitching Awl 1-1/4" blade

    > Petite Tooling Calf Leather (2-3oz),

Question here – would it be wiser to get a 4-5oz for versatility and other projects?

    > Stitching Needle (10-pk)

    > Overstitch Wheel Sz 6

    > Waxed Thread

And for edging, would I need only a beveler? I feel like some of the options they suggest : the cutting board + glass burnisher seem way too pricy to just make a simple card holder.

    Thanks for your help.

edit: Also, would I need a 'groover' as well, to establish my stitching lines?
