I gave them a long, very hot soak.

If you soaked them there is no need to throw them in the washer. The hot soak should take care of the first major shrinkage. I own the same pair and while there was a good amount of shortening in length I found the thigh was where i noticed the most shrinkage.

I too would stay away from the ironing. You would take out your original creases and may start some new ones. Which could be good or bad.

Though in the end its your denim you will still end up with a good product nothing will ever change that.
