  1. Thanks...Because I'm using Internet Explorer 4 I'm incapable of using Google.

I was mostly hoping to swoop on some of the community's failed ventures...

More or less I'm hoping for someone to say "man, I bet I'd look fucking rad with a railroad spike ring" and then to realize that their portly well furred knuckles remind people of frodo more than Steve McQueen.

Then they see my post and say "Oh shit! I can unload this horrid chunk of brass on this Personicus bastard. I'll give it to him for less than I paid because I'm an awesome SuFu member." Pm sent.

  2. ^thanks :), I'm really glad people are enjoying what I've put up so far.

Here are a few images of the latest belt buckle, which is starting to appear in stores. The 'loops' buckle belt may be a bit more unassuming than the 'hook' buckle, but I'm really pleased with it, and it;s the belt I'm wearing myself at the moment.

I wanted to do a take on a D ring belt, which to my mind have never been quite right. The two types I've seen either have 2 rings held in the same place, in which case the belt holds firm but it gets very fat at the point where the rings are sewn in, of the rings are spaced, which keeps the belt flatter but often means it will loosen quite quickly when it's worn.

The 'loops' buckle belt then has different sized rings. The front one is shorter, and is held tight in the end fold of the belt (this means that the stress of the belt is on folded leather, not on stitches, which is a good thing). The back loop is longer, and has a bigger gap to sit in, allowing it to slip backwards and forwards until it finds its place, meaning that the belt will tighten naturally.

Because they're sewn in at different places though, the belt stays reasonably flat when worn:

Because this type of belt has to double back on itself through the buckle, heavy weight oak bark tanned leather wouldn't be flexible enough, so this belt is cut from lighter, more supple, wattle tanned leather, the same as is used for the wallet and boots.

When I was making up a first prototype of this belt (the one pictured here, in fact) I realised that if I put the suede on the outside, the end of the belt doubling back would mean suede rubbing on suede, which helps the belt grip, rather than leather-on-leather, which is relatively slippy. I like how with a bit of age the contrast deepens between the two sides as well.

    I want one.

    Really. Really. Bad.

Shoot me a pm as soon as they're up for grabs.

  3. let me explain, its like you made a decision for spending your hard earned cash for something...like a Porsche.you wouldnt expect to see some rust holes after six months.

I see, I guess I proverbially rally race my porches and am rarely surprised when I drop the axle. I'm on a bike 25+ miles a day, if 6 months in I'm not seeing crotch/knee holes I need to order 10 more pairs.

I'm sorry he's not getting the mileage he expects out of his denim. :(

  4. We obsess over stitches, weft, dying process...why is it such a bold leap to obsess over the documentation of wear. I mean, there are several blogs dedicated to a photo a day-- we're a collaboration of the compulsive.

I don't think my denim documentation damages my sex life, I think my affectation for not washing my jeans for months on end and worrying about how her dry humping me is going to effect my fades...I think THAT is what fucks up my sex life.

  5. cheers cash, this is more repworthy:

just noticed that my Roys are completely ruined.

    6147421947_cdd06b5328_z.jpg

after wearing them for such a long time this is a big disappointment.i mean,it shouldnt happen on a quality pair of jeans.should i email Mr. Slaper for a replacement?

    I don't understand...how are these completely ruined?

  6. Zissou & Roy6, wow great photos guys.

I spent today sanding and glue the cracks in the old victorian skirting boards of my bedroom. Worth repairing them as they're deep boards of the sort you don't get anymore. Left the ROYS in a bit of a mess though.

I think they may need another wash. So far they've had an initial hot soak and then a hand wash about 6 weeks ago. Not sure whether to wash by hand or put them through the machine.

    OH MY!! WINNER WINNER!

So, I am just wondering... Would anyone consider buying those as an experiment to see how they fade? It is kind of pathetic on how they are priced though, if they were <$100 I would consider trying them out just to see what quality is like and how they hold up after months of wear.

I have a pair, they're actually not too bad. I mean they're overpriced for what they are. Very similar to the Levi's Matchstick Selvedge, haven't faded them yet. They're waiting to jump into the rotation...

  8. New iPhone Case/ Wallet I made today out of some scrap leather I bought at the craft shop. I'm happy with how it turned out, should be nice after some oil and it stretches out.

Tried a little chain-stitching, hoping to get a chain-stich wallet fade. That'd be the ultimate SUFU geekdom.

  9. Really guys? Do I have to be the first person to say everything on this page is fug? Jesus.
Surely you know that tastes and style are completely subjective? While the majority of pairs on these forums are generally repro cuts and traditional indigo jeans, you must realize that this is a denim forum, and Hartford is a denim company.

To each their own, and if you can't appreciate construction and detailing on different jeans perhaps you should reconsider posting anything at all and keeping your comments to yourself..

    ^^+rep

I don't think I'd wear either of those pairs but..ffs, Hartford is a group of artisans. I can appreciate the craft, the strich. Instead of just saying "fug" why not provide something intesting to the conversation. Such as..."why do they place the pockets on the outside instead of traditional sack pockets? Where/when did the styles diverge? When did they fall out of fashion?" or shit, even something like: "Why did you decide to go with that cut? How do you expect those ducks to age?"

  10. I forgt if these are unsanforised. How is sizing on these?

They're supposed to be one wash, so I figure they'll stay at their measured size post future washes/soaks. They're true to measure, the sz34 is a 34" waist.

I don't know how much they stretch....I'll report when they arrive!

  11. So, I'm sure a lot of you have wandered over to the SUPER DENIM forum and have thought to yourself..."Selvedge, that sounds fucking awesome. But $400!?! That's retarded." Well my friend consider me your friendly neighborhood dealer who's gonna hook you up with your first hit on the cheap, so some day you'll sell your mom's tv for you're next slubby wubby dose.

    IMG_2626_864x576.jpg

And now...the sad part. You're probably thinking: "This Personicus guy, he seems really fucking cool and these jeans, they're fucking hot, why's he selling? Why so cheap?" I had my tailor hem these to a reasonable length, apparently tape measures are unnecessary and for squares because my tailor "accidentally" hemmed these to 29.5" instead of the 31" that I had asked for. Being the angry stubborn bastard that I am, thought, I CAN DO IT MYSELF! and unfurled the hem and tried a half hem to give it the maximum length. They're now 30.25" ....but, they look like someone with a sad combination of carpel tunnel and two elephantiasis infected hands had a go of it. I figure, some short, lucky man, can take these down to a tailor, get them fixed up nice (for probably $10) and have a nice pair of starter selvage super cheap.
