  1. I got my pair in today and they are awesome! The knee pads seem to be rotating inward a little bit so I'm not getting as much protection on the outside of my knee, but that shouldn't be a problem when riding. I took them out for about an hour and was very happy with them. The kevlar kept me warm.

As far as the fit goes, I dig 'em. It's a bit tight around the knee when riding, but otherwise okay. I wish there was a little bit of a taper past the knee, but maybe I should've tried for a slim cut and sized up on the waist.

Concerns: Bleeding indigo like crazy. Also I hope they don't shrink because the fit is perfect as is. I sized TTS 32.

Thanks for posting a review! I'm clearly not on here as often as I should be.

The slims would be a little smaller on the bottom leg. For instance the leg opening on 1941 - size 32 is 17 3/8 inches pre-shrink and the slims size 32 - 14 3/8 inches.

Yeah, they bleed if you don't rinse or shrink them. Obviously bleed less with wear.

Have you managed to get many miles in them yet?

Can you post some pics? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the slims (don't like the cinch and high rise on the 1944s). My fear is that if it fits me slim on the waist, the padding at the knee will be obvious. I don't want any pads to be apparent. If your buddy's slim fits came in, can you or him take a pick in those? I kinda want to compare the fit on an actual person since we are a similar size.

I'd also like to see some evo pics on this denim. . If you can help out with any of this Canuk, it'd be equally appreciated.

    Thanks!

I've got a pair of 1941s that I've been wearing for a little over a year now. The only pics I have are with a sh!tty mobile phone. We're going to be doing some product shots of the slims fairly soon, so i'll see if I can slip them in. I think they look freaking gorgeous, but I may or may not have a biased opinion.

Interview with the maple founder at Denimhunters: http://denimhunters....otorcycle-jeans

I hope we get to see pictures of worn in Maples soon!

Thanks for posting this article. As above, I'll try to get some good pics up. For now, check these out.

These are somewhere between 6-8 months of wear no wash, no rinse. I wear my jeans pretty hard.

Although it appears as though the camera angle may be skewing the jeans, it's not. I'm fat!

The belt is from Side Winder Apparel.

  2. Ha, I was about to post that myself. I guess now's as good a time as ever to order a pair!

Do we need to consider the armor padding in our measurements or is it safe to go TTS?

Thanks for your support! We've done our best to be true to size post shrink. So 34s will measure 34 inches, 32s will measure 32 inches etc..

  3. Oranswell - No gusset I'm afraid!

Jyoni - Thanks for the referral. Any help to spread the word is always graciously appreciated. I agree mostly with your comments around the appeal of the vintage features to the denim enthusiast. While I have no interest in making a product for the mass market, I am toying with the idea of introducing some styles with toned down features. What has worked in my favour, up to this point, is the absolute lack of any decent alternatives. A lot of brands are focusing on cheap product, using cheap denim and forgoing any thought to style (a very biased opinion, I'm aware). Maple is focused on offering a premium alternative.

    ironheartfan123 - Thanks man!

I'm not sure it's cool to promote a sale here. If not, please advise, and I'll remove the post.

I'm currently running a promotion of 20% Off + Free Shipping Worldwide. More details available Here

  4. ^Agreed. I got to page 4, then ADD kicked in so jumped to the last.

We're thinking of producing a raw womens fit. i'd be keen to hear any feedback positive and negative on what's currently available, and which fit characteristics are desirable...

    now back to page 5...

  5. I really dig this as a concept. I'd be really interested in how it works in practice. IMO it's all about the marketing. If you can get your message about bespoke denim in front of the right audience, then you're away.

If you love your denim, this is like a dream come true.

Roland - Any update on how you're doing?

  6. two months without a post?!?! I've been neglecting SUFU

Raworkshop - Thanks for the feedback. Re: roadrash - my designer was in charge of Puma's venture into motorcycle gear. As such, they did loads of research into impact and abrasion points, which have all been taken into consideration for this design. Also, to avoid any unnecessary stitching (common in other kevlar jeans) the kevlar covers waist to shin on the front.

Update - I've spent the last couple of months going back and forth with my manufacturer over every conceivable detail. Everything from the quality and style of rivets, to the measurement of the placement of armour pockets over the different size range. It has been a great learning experience for me. I've gained a lot of confidence in my manufacturer, based on them being on top of their shit!

I was stoked to receive salesman samples of the regular (non-kevlar) over the holidays, and am really pleased with the quality. These include branded buttons and rivets, and a few tweaks we've made since doing the prototypes. I'm hoping to receive salesman samples of the kevlar jeans in the next couple of weeks.

I've been working part time as a motorcycle courier for the past few months, as a way to test some prototypes, and do some r&d. I'd estimate I've done somewhere around 10k miles in the protos, and am seeing some development of whiskers, good colour change, and great wear patterns.

Due to one thing or another, the delivery date has been pushed back until April 2012. I suspect a lot of it has to do with the fact that I'm a new customer, and ordering a limited run. None the less, this gives me some time to work on my marketing, so I can get these jeans sold when they arrive.

All for now, I'll try to be more consistent in the future

  7. Initial search brought up this link

I'm only just starting to look into selvage for my daughter, Arabella 8 months. It seems as though they're very difficult to find.

Aside, I'm in the process of having some big people selvage jeans manufactured (see signature). I really like the idea of having Arabella, and future kids, wearing the same jeans as dad, and have considered approaching my manufacturer to make a couple pairs as a favour. If there is enough interest, I can try to work something out for the community. As a fair warning: they're already doing me a huge favour with my minimums, so nothing is guaranteed.

Just a thought.... Let me know if this is of interest.

  8. All thanks for the comments, they're much appreciated. I've been wearing my prototypes pretty hard, and am starting to get some good colour change. I'll post pics in the near future.

Morka - what do you mean by "normal cut"? These are straight leg, modelled after LVC 44s. They may look a bit weird, because they're 38 inch waist for my fat ass!

dawei/swissjf - I appreciate that this design isn't going to appeal to everyone. I'll certainly consider something more traditional for future styles.

thecolliseum - Kevlar lined jeans aren't an original idea, however to the best of my knowledge kevlar lined selvage is. Check out dragginjeans.net and sartso.com - Should make it more clear why I'm doing this.

Surly - totally get what you're saying re: metal. The idea of sliding down a motorwat on metal buttons isn't too appealing to me either, however it is functional. I think I've mentioned before, braces are pretty damn handy on motorcycle trousers/pants.

Aether - Cheers for the comments. I know what you mean about riding on your wallet, depending on the length of the journey, it can get pretty numb. My intentions are to produce more styles in the future, and I'll definitely use feedback to influence future designs. I hate a cold lower back.

  9. Revsta - nice bump, this one was nearly lost in the ether.

I'd assume that the best time to treat the denim would be pre cut/sew, though I wonder if it would be beneficial to treat the threads pre or post dye or after they've been woven into denim?

Waterproof or resistant denim would be pretty kick ass!
