  1. This seems to be the best place to ask. I'm looking for a new rucksack for snowboarding that I could also use for everyday use and short breaks. I don't want to look like I am going on an expedition to Everest or the vanguard of an invasion force whilst on a long weekend to london. Thanks for any advice and tips.

  2. x post from small questions..

    Maybe better here..

Can anyone point me to some high grade tech wear shirts that don't have me look a goth ninj or a designer ?

Something I can wear under a suit.

Straight up , tailored and no gimmicks(zippers etc)...

Have a look at Rohan as well.

  3. I have also been using the velcro loop to keep it in place. I feel the fast hood is a good idea but when using the velcro I find it to be really fiddly and less effective than a simple zip closure like the Veilance field has.

  4. Got my order today. Was pleasantly surprised to find the GT-J27PL has an escape zip that isn't listed in its specs

I also purchased the J27PL and when I first zipped it to the top I thought I had a defective zip until I realised.

As for packing it the jacket still feels quite substantial for being a paclite imo.

  5. As much as I like Acronym I can't help but feel for a polartech powerstretch neck gaiter 95 euros is slightly taking the piss. I've worn this one for snowboarding for years and never had any problems with it:

Obviously it doesn't have the Acronym branding on it but I can't see much difference between this and the ACR one by looking closely at the pictures. If anyone can point me out why it is worth so much more it would be appreciated.

Stand outs for me are the field jacket(GT-J27PL) and the car coat (S-J30) and if they still have stock in hanon today I will try these on..

  6. Ah right. I didn't realise they used nanosphere. The only UK stockist is a cycling shop in london and I am loathe to order trousers over the internet so have not really looked into the technology they apply although I do own a 6876 jacket with nanosphere.

  7. I went a size up on my isogon compared to every other veilance piece I have. Normally a medium but went for a large in the isogon. I felt it looked better but I was always going to wear it as a lightweight jacket rather than a mid layer. If you are going to do the same then I would go a size up.

  8. This is from the MAPP merino site which is where I read it:

    moisture control and management

MAPP Merino fibres have a complex structure with a hydrophilic (water holding) interior, known as the cortex and a hydrophobic (water repelling) exterior, known as the cuticle.

MAPP fabric will absorb perspiration without making you feel damp and uncomfortable, with the added benefit of being naturally shower repellent

  9. Isogon jacket is definitely not made of Gore materials, it's TerraTex (Nylon-lycra blend). I'm tempted to buy this one too but I still don't know how water resistant this material is...

techninj wisdom: Remember, if it doesn't say Gore-tex, it's not.

I think it is the same material as on the back of the composite Jacket from s/s 11. If it is the material is very water resistant. I've been caught in the rain a few times in my Composite and never had a problem with getting wet. I also bught the isogon. Amazingly lightweight as said but haven't been caught in the rain yet whilst wearing it.

  10. Aesthetically speaking not finding uvu very interesting. Stuff looks very well made though so hopefully will see a bigger collection from them with a greater variety of designs!

As far as I know there will also be "lifestyle" range released to sit beside the more performance orientated stuff that is currnetly up on the website.

  11. need to find that isogon, in that colour, in small somewhere. anyone know if arcteryx' own webshop usually gets restocks of veilance products?

Hanon have got them in but they are not on the website yet.

I got the isogon yesterday from Hanon. It is a thing of beauty. Very lightweight and seems to offer a decent level of protection against the wind and looks great when on. Seems to be a thicker version of the material used on the back of the composite jacket.

  12. I may be wrong but I thought the Fidlock was just to fold the jacket when you had it slung over your shoulder to prevent it hanging down so much. That's what i have been using it for anyway.
