I'm thinking about getting a hem at a local tailor, but should I be worried about whether or not they can handle selvedge properly? Or is it safer to send into selfedge for hemming and chainstitching?

s710xx lot 16, 2 soak, 1 seawash, and just out of a fresh wash after 1.5 years of wear on and off since 7/2013. Probably around 8 months of actual wear.
Unfortunately these jeans are starting to shrink on me. Oh well, can't say I haven't enjoyed them

Why not just put in wash and skip the dryer?
didn't want to loose too much indigo

I just got a pair of SG2105 in, one size up so I'm trying to get the max shrinkage out.
Would you guys say 2hr hot soak, then air dry until slightly damp, then 10 min machine tumble dry will effectively get the shrinkage out?

Thanks for the help guys, those vibergs are a tad too big for me unfortunately. Anybody familiar with oak street bootmakers?
Could anybody comment on the quality of oak street trench boots vs. viberg service boots?

Anybody have any recommendations for boots that are shaped like these viberg service boots, but aren't necessarily that expensive?

$720 USD is a bit steep for me :/ but looking for something that would last a couple years and is at most around the $300 range

Welp, I think I screwed these 710 up. Ordered a 32, probably should have opted for 31 or 30. Didn't think they'd be so huge (pre-soak)....what do you guys think?:
And here are my Left Field Indigo Miners for reference of what I'm going for:
Bro you're good just wear a belt. Don't worry about them being too big right now, you'll see the jeans willl continue to shrink as you wash them. That looks like a perfect fit down the leg, and if the waste is the only issue it will repair itself over time. Better too big but still wearable than too small that you can't even wear. 2 sizes down is pushing it. 1 size will probably be uncomfortable after max shrinkage

^^^ seconded. I wear between a 33 and 34 between brands, or depending on how tight or loose I want a pair. I can wear either size in the xx05 cut, but went with a 34, for a slightly looser fit. They fit very comfortably, much like that pic of edd's posted above. It's always hard to tell without actually seeing the jean on you, but I've yet to see the xx05 look bad on anyone. Go with the larger size you wear, and wear a belt. Regarding the 2xxx denim...well, it's pretty excellent.
Thanks for the help guys.
I'm torn between getting the 2105 and 2101... from the measurements it doesn't even seem as though the 2101 is all the much less-skinny... I'm not looking for so much of a tight fit, but more of a comfortable fit like edd's so as to not be too tight on the thighs.. I measured my waist today and it is 33 inches, would you guys recommend a size 34 in 2105, a size 34 in 2101 or a size 33 in 2101...

Hey Kiya,
Just want to start off by saying that I've popped into SENY a few times since I first developed my love for raw denim, and all I want to say is bravo for such a beautiful thing you've created.
Here are my jeans.
-Length of wear: about 1 year and 2 months of moderate wear.-Model Number: 1101 ----> these are the blue line selvage from when you had a clearance of some stuff wayyyyyy back.-Washes: 2 washes 3 soaks-Repairs: 1 crotch repair, with a small blowout present. The jeans look different in different lighting. The top photos show how they look in sunlight and the fit picture show they look in the shade.I'm looking for a fit like this, and perhaps the SG 2105 will be too slim a cut, kiya do you plan on stocking the xx01 fit? Anybody want to comment on the difference in fit between xx05 and xx01, having trouble figuring this out just from the measurements. There seems to be a larger thigh measurement and rise measurement for the xx05, but how is that possible if the xx01 is supposed to be the straight cut? I'm looking at this link for measurements by the way http://www.nordicdenimhouse.com/blog/2011/09/strike-gold-sizing-and-pricing/

I own both the 2105 and the recent 710OG's, I would say they are pretty different.
Rise on the 710 feels higher and the leg opening is a bit slimmer.
Comparatively, the 2105's have a lower rise, slimmer thighs and a bigger hem.
Can't go wrong with the 21XX denim, good stuff.
I'm pretty set on getting them at this point. Any opinions on the shrinkage? I wear a size 32 with no belt in 710, should I go for a 33 or 34 for a comfy fit? Would sizing up 1 look ridiculous in these jeans?

If it makes any difference.. with our sale and free shipping this weekend the price of buying them from Japan and buying them from Self Edge becomes far closer, and you can return them for another size with us or have them hemmed at the same time.
I'm flying back into New York this Saturday, I will be sure to come by your store, as I need to drop a pair of jeans off for repair anyway!
Kiya it's a real struggle with my change in body structure over the years. I bought a pair of 3sixteen 13bsp from you maybe five years ago, can't even get them past my knees now haha. Any opinions on whether or not the strike gold 2105 cut is friendly for a larger-thighed fellow? How is the shrinkage over time? I've had a problem with my eternals where I could fit them, but over the course of two years and multiple hot washes they became much tighter than they used to be. which is to be expected I suppose, but is it worth sizing up two sizes in strike gold?

Hey Guys,
So I'm a 32 in samurai s710xx (bit tight - no need for a belt), I'm itching to get a pair of strike gold 2105 or 2109, which would you recommend?
My thighs are generally the issue, they have been getting bigger as of recent, although the 710s still fit me very well. From the measurements 2105 seems to be very similar to sam s710xx except for the leg opening, could anybody compare the fits? I'm looking for something that's slim-straight, but not too slim because I plan to gain weight, would sizing up 1 in strike gold to 33 work for this? What's the stretching like in the 2105 (which I'm leaning towards now).

My 2105's.. I started wearin 'em again. Gotta get a couple of jeans repaired.
I wanna say about 5 months of wear on them.
Laxlife, your pair has inspired me to look into purchasing a pair of strikegolds, especially with the Yen so low!
Could anyone comment on the relative differences between strikegold 2105 cut and 2109? Is 2105 slim straight and 2109 slim tapered? Could anyone also compare strikegold 2105 to samurai s710? Judging from the measurements of selfedge/big the cuts seem to be nearly identical except for the leg opening. In the past I have had some trouble with outgrowing my jeans due to weightlifting. I used to be a size 28, and now I am about a size 32 (kind of tight - no need for a belt) in samurai s710 -- would it be recommended for me to get a 33 or even 34 in SG? How is the stretching/shrinkage over time on the 2105?
I also have larger thighs would you guys say the 2105 would look odd on a large-thighed fellow? It seems as though SG doesn't have many straight cuts, mostly slim, I'm guessing 2105 is the least slim fit?

Can anyone explain to me how Rakuten works? I've searched but only old threads show up, I'm trying to buy these Iron Heart 634's http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/ot-emens/item/mud5040-0643m-0/?s-id=borderless_browsehist_en, is the price too good to be true, I realize the Yen is at a 7 year low right now.

Speaking of prices, I read in the Wall Street Journal that the Yen is at a 7 year low against the US dollar. That's good if you earn dollars and buy IH items priced in Yen.
I checked Global Rakuten to see how that Yen weakness affects prices. For example, IH-666-XHS are down to $284 at current exchange rates. 666S-L 19 oz are down to $208.
I've never seen prices that low in years of watching...tempted to buy something I don't really need, just because it feels like bargain shopping.
Is there any drawbacks to ordering from rakuten when you're based in USA? Is shipping a lot, are there any added fees? Can you use paypal?
I've been thinking of getting IH 634... I am about a size 33 in Samurai S710, for a comfortable fit in IH 634 (non sanforized) should I go with 33?

Do ducks fade like jeans do? Or are they meant to be washed regularly?

What's the LX denim like?

I came on sufu for the first time in a year just to share this. I just washed my sam 710 after a year of on and off nonchalant wear and I am extremely satisfied with the way they turned out. I have previously worn nudie, eternal, 3sixteen, skull but none of my other jeans match up to the results samurai has produced. I'm just disappointed I slept on samurai for so many years because I thought they were all hype, but boy was I wrong. All I can say is wow.
My pair is nowhere near as developed as max power's is, but now I want to buy another pair of sams to rotate with. However, my body has recently been changing. I went from a size 28 waist to a size 32-33 (comfortable) because of weightlifting (squats). At the same time my thighs have grown much larger. I don't know how much larger my waist will get but I know for sure that slimmer cuts are a bad idea. Would you guys advise me to hold out until my waist stabilizes or is the 5000 cut a good all around fit for any body type?

710s posted a few days ago got their first wash (they originally had an initial hot soak). Waist shrunk down to 30.75" (size 31), but length didn't change much. I like the way they fit right now a lot, but still need to get a hem, so I'm going to get that taken care of in the next few days. I usually have an inseam of 33-34", but these are still triple cuffed in these photos. I'm starting to think that maybe getting a 30 would've been optimal, but I can live with them slightly loose once they've stretched back out.
These are a tagged size 31? I like the fit. I'm in the market for a pair of 710s myself and I would like a similar fit. How did you size on these?
In response to b_F on page 624... My eternals may be tagged size 28 but the waist actually stretched out to a 31 (my actual waist size), I've grown a bit in the waist area from squatting over the past year so I guess my eternals have grown with me haha, I do not need to wear a belt with them.
Do you really think a tagged size 31 in 710 (TTS) would be too big? I'm expecting some growth and I would prefer not having skin tight jeans after a couple washes (happened to my 3sixteen and 5010xx both tagged 28). I would like my samurais to become a pair of jeans I can still wear in a couple years without being too tight.

Looking for a pair of samurai s710, my true waist measured with a measuring tape is 31 inches, I wear a 28 in Eternal 811 comfortably. For this pair of s710 I'm looking for a slim-straight fit that's not too tight. I made the mistake of going size 28 on my skull 5010xx, which are way too tight after the second wash.
So I've been thinking of getting a tagged size 30, debating between a 30 and 31 right now. B_f's fit guide warns me not to get a 29 haha, which is unfortunately what BiG has in stock. Anyway I called in and they said they were expecting a shipment of blue shadows in by mid June and the 15th anniversary 710 in by the end of June, so I have some time.
Ideally I'd like a fit like this: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7035/6675573493_a183651797_b.jpg
This is jonsc's pair, anybody remember how he sized?
Also I'm debating between the 17 oz vx and 19 oz xx denim, this is my first time buying a pair of Samurais so any help would be appreciated. I'm having trouble deciding because of the lack of blue shadow evolution pics I can find, I know there's a lot of 710 19 oz evolution pics!

I heard skulls were going to shit so i jumped on a pair of 5010xx a month or so ago. Here are some fit pics, I think I'll hem them soon.

1 month on BSP20's 0 wash 0 soak. I know it's hard to see from these pictures but these fade relatively fast. Some electric blue is peaking out in a couple places. Sorry for all the pictures
I'm not entirely sure whether or not the st-100x cut is an apc repro, but you might aswell pay the extra $10 for the real deal from 3sixteen.
