  1. Damn I've been trying to order from them but they said they never have any in stock..

Do you mean how they're attached together? Its just stitched in the middle. I can send you more photos if you'd like.

    That'd be a huge help! Thanks =)

  2. Can someone do a simple rundown on how to install a zipper? I'd like to try just a simple zipper pouch to practice but would like to eventually make a long wallet for the girlfriend with a zippered compartment.

From what I'm gathering, I just need the tape, ends, and zipper pull?

    Thanks! =)

  3. I'm a wrench by trade and only buy Snap-on tools (very expensive compared to other brands) for work.  So when i got into leather work i went for the 'best' tools i could find, Vergez Blanchard.

Although i have not used JD tools yet, I cant imagine using anything other than my VB stuff. The fact that they are forged and finished by hand really appeals to me.

my current irons are 9 tpi/spi with plans to exand to 7 and 12 eventully

If some of the finest leather houses are using VB, there must be a reason for it.

I certainly get that, but if there was an alternative that does 80% of what Blanchard does at 50% of the cost, then that's what I'm after.

That said, I'm just about convinced with buying Blanchard.

  4. I'm normally working with 3-4oz leather, so it's still possible to punch holes through 2 layers of leather :)

If it's too thick, you can punch the holes separately.

Thanks. I think I just need more practice to get it as clean as most of you guys.

Here it is next to a card holder I made a while back:

Noob question: How are you guys terminating the stitching? I'm simply trimming then burning, but surely there's a cleaner way?

Edit: Nevermind. Found some answers on Leatherworker.

  5. I made a few of those standard card wallets that I've seen around for some family and friends. They're cut from a nice roll of cognac Dublin I picked up from Maverick Leather over in California.

This is very nice. What type of thread do you use if you don't mind my asking?
