  1. Like diagonal one of the new field jacket lt?

via Veilance: "In line with the more dynamic approach, a map pocket that is easily accessible on the go replaces the traditional chest pocket."

I remember reading somewhere it is a reference to traditional motorcycle jackets.

Not sure why you need a 'map pocket' anymore. The original vertical chest pocket is actually quite good for just quickly dropping your phone inside.

  2. picked up this seasons fw 13/14 field jacket today. the new textured face fabric is really nice. akin to a very fine cordura.

anyways i have a stupid question - is it suppose to come with a garment/dust bag? i didn't think about it until i got home - the store never gave me one. or does veilance reserve the garment bags for the longer coats?

  3. Anybody have recommendation on technical books? I'm curious about fabric knitting and treatment

I would highly recommend Ideas from Massimo Osti

There is a whole section that specifically speaks about textile innovations including garment dying, bonding natural and synthetic fabrics (technowool and rubber wool), heat sensitive fabrics (stone island ice jacket), etc.

The book provides insight behind Osti's process and thinking as well as a history of Stone Island and CP Company. It's laid out almost like a sketch / scrap book with bits of fabric samples, sketches, photos, notes, quotes - it's great to just flip through.

Anyone who nerds out about this techwear stuff should definitely check it out.

  4. echoing the comments above regarding the blazer sizing.

i generally fit into the veilance xs. However, in my experience trying the blazer lt and haedn - the XS were very tight in the shoulders. The size S was definitely a better fit. I remember noting the Haedn has a slightly unstructured soft shoulder. For some reason I was imaging it to have a more structured silhouette or padding based on the veilance webshop photos.

Another odd sizing experience was the Geom SFT jacket - it was a bit short in the waist. Might have benefited from an extra 1" or 2". But I might be shaped funny.

  5. thoughts on the veilance insulator jacket? I'm planning to wear it on it's own and under shells.

    http://veilance.arcteryx.com/product.aspx?language=EN&gender=mens&model=Insulator-Jacket

it looks almost identical to the mainline atom lt http://arcteryx.com/product.aspx?language=EN&gender=Mens&model=Atom-LT-Jacket or aphix: http://arcteryx.com/product.aspx?language=EN&gender=Mens&activity=Ski-Snowboard&model=Aphix-Jacket. Both are less than half the price of a Veilance insulator with similar feature sets: ripstop nylon DWR treated face fabric and coreloft insulation.

Anyone have experience with these jackets? Is the veilance insulator worth the premium?

    Thanks
