  1. Locations all checked. addicted and daily projects still there, the former probably being the best store I went to, has some really nice european designers.

Added a few venues for catching up and coming korean indie bands. The club scene there was cringecentral. went to hongdae last friday, every single joint was putting out mainstream US RnB hits. This was inamongst american GIs hollering and highfiving at every opportunity and all the korean college chicks dressing like they were on the game.

  2. Flying in to Seoul on Tuesday for a week's holiday. I'm a total googlemaps nerd, and coupled with the smartphone I'm renting, I thought a custom map should save tons of time.

If anyone's interested, it's here. just saying beforehand though, it's super subjective and no where near exhaustive. I've probably missed tons of cool traditional shit, but that sightseeing conveyor belt approach isn't my thing. The map is mostly comprised of bookstores/galleries/cafes/fashunz that were collated off the net and seemed interesting.

Any wrong locations/feedback/essential additions, get at me, I'd be really appreciative

Also if there's anyone on for sinking a few beers, especially friday/saturday let me know!

  3. anyone going to hyperdub on friday?

hype williams, kode 9, king midas etc

Probably gunna roll, although not certain yet. Never been to Unit, what's the place like? Just hope it's low-key, and grimy. Not big into all the cheesy school-disco lighting rigs you see in some places here.

  4. z-axis -- that the CDG raincoat? I took a joke picture at work with the camel one of that. Will post if that is the CDG..

Issey Miyake windcoat, wanted to fk with the standard silhouettes a bit, aiming for some doma drape steeze. Judging by the reaction above looks like I was was off the mark though! Post the cdg, I'd like to see it

  5. Hoping for a little bit of help / advice regarding phones.

I'm leaving for Tokyo next thursday for a little under 6 months (spending a semester studying abroad at Waseda and staying with a host family) and I'm trying to figure out what to do for a phone while there. I'd like to have SOME sort of data plan, so I can navigate using maps etc and access the internet when needed (I hear wifi is pretty spotty in Tokyo). A friend of mine offered to let me borrow his unlocked iphone 3gs, as apparently you can get prepaid data/mms/talk SIMs, based on this thread, and it seems that b-mobile is a decently-priced option if this is the case. Are there other alternatives to this that may be better-priced while still allowing for some data?

Might not be the best place to ask, but thought I'd give it a go anyway. Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend gps - I wasted so much time here at first without it. For me this city is so disorientating, there's no solid landmarks you can fix on plus all the buildings look so similar.

If you need a number and a voice plan as well as data, b-mobile is your best option. Check this for a useful comparison of the different options. For around 4k I think they might still offer a rolling monthly sim-only iphone contract so you can cancel after 6 months no problem. Once you land, you can complete an online application form, you send them a hi-res photo of your gaijin card and after a week you get the sim.

  6. Anybody got any perspectives on the current state of english teaching specifically in Tokyo?

Got my BA, just about to start a TEFL course, and hope to cop some teaching experience in ldn before making the jump early next year. I hear flooded and super tight job market - what are my chances of finding a half decent position somewhere?

  7. Bit of a random and desperate one but I think anyone who's been in the same situation can appreciate what a bitch gumtree is.

I need a room, to rent, I'll live most places with decent transport, although pref North/East. Saying that, I happily lived in Camberwell for 3 years. Starting a new job second week of Oct so now getting pretty close!

    Cheers

    spareroom.co.uk

These are worth a look, seems higher volume accoms than gumtree.
