  1. Don't have a problem with the fades, but those jeans must really ride low on you to have bicycle seat wear that high up on the seat of the jeans.

Not the case. That assumes I ride a bike that looks like the one you have in your head. When I ride, I'm leaned forward considerably and my tail bone is sort of curled under. You'd have to see to really get what I'm saying, but I assure you, they're at my waist and there's nothing abnormal bout the way I sit or ride.

I will edit this tomorrow with newer pictures. Things evened out a bit because I stopped riding with those on.

  2. I had a thought: if you could manage to get your hands on some "fake" selvage jeans or some that are poorly made or questionable (I think GAP made some jeans they called selvage once) so as to highlight the differences. It also may be worth comparing the general quality of materials and construction to something like True Religion or AG, or some Rock Revival or Rock & Republic. I think it'd be interesting.

  3. When you say 'ride' your bike, do you mean that you gyrate on the seat without peddling? Because I cannot comprehend how you have that much arse-fade without similar combs and whiskers. No hate, just curious.
^his saddle might just be made of sand paper.

No, I essentially ride like everyone else, on a normal leather saddle, but when you think about the fact that there's constant contact there I think it makes sense. I have normal wear 'n' tear in other places consistent to what you'd expect from ~6 months wear. That area just sees more friction. Ride 35-45 minutes each way to work, then an an hour plus of going here and there. That's if I'm not just riding for fun which I sometimes will do for 1-3 hours (though now days I will generally change into something else for that, and for the ride to work when it's 115 degrees out.).

Anyway I'm sure everyone's about tired of reading about my stupid jeans by now.

  4. its like a heart on your ass, it's cute.

    haha, god damnit.

On the bright side, I guess I know who I can count on to give me shit for the rest of this contest. And knowing is half the battle.

I'm going to go look at my jeans and cut myself now.

  5. Are they really that awful? Now I'm all self-conscious. Is it to the point where ya wouldn't even be seen wearing them?

Just asking because it never occurred to me that they were that terrible. I still love 'em but I'm just curious.

I'm going to emopart. Just kidding.

  6. LOL, it was like, you knew people will bash on your seat fades.

however, i'm with iGIT on this kind of thing.

People already have so yeah kinda figured. Stopped wearing 'em quite as much on my bike. There's not a lot I can do save for not wearing them. I'm on my bike all the time.

I can't think of any practical way I can reinforce that whole area really.

  7. Some just-right photos from today. Color-wise, these are just about perfectly accurate.

I know the seat fades are too much for a lot of people, but at the end of the day, shouldn't my jeans reflect my lifestyle and how I use them?

I will edit this to include a fit pic or two when I have a bit of time, now that I've had them hemmed a bit and the fit is much better.

  8. It hit 105 Degrees and is humid as s*#t here in Maryland, still going strong.

I'm in Phoenix and it's effing brutal. I don't [can't] drive right now so I'm biking to work, etc. It is soo bad. I look like I'm going to die when I get there.

Yours still look better than mine, though. Hurts a bit ;)

  9. Cuddles, while I understand your point there's only so much I can do about the ass fades. I suppose I could not wear my jeans while cycling but that would mean changing a lot since I'm on my bike a lot of the day. As for the fit, hopefully if I have the length reduced it will help. I think one of those pics in particular (with my boots) makes them look much looser than they are in reality, but if you ain't diggin' it you ain't diggin' it and that's cool.

Anyway nice to see people commenting.

  10. Here are some pictures taken about a month ago on a nicer camera than my last ones, right after I had 'em dry cleaned:

And here are some after another month of Phoenix summer cycling and long restaurant shifts:

Considering hemming further, though it will be painful because I had selfedge hem them and I don't want to part with them for two weeks to have them redone there, so I'd probably end up taking them to a local taylor. I guess I can always have them fixed up proper-like down the road (after the contest when a week apart won't hurt so bad).

  11. So as you can see, I don't always have access to the greatest cameras or a skillset to get perfect shots, and my lighting varies between some of these photos, but I hope it gives an idea of what I have got going on.

Been wearing them for 2.5 - 3 months roughly, and every day with few exceptions. Just dry cleaned after daily cycling + food service since I got them. You can see where my bicycle saddle has been wearing 'em in the seat. I think these are going fade as quickly as my APCs did with at least equal contrast, but obviously more interestingly. I don't know if you can see it but I have a random crease down the front of my right thigh. No idea where it came from.

  12. Just wanted to say mine popped up about 3-4 weeks ago and I am so in love with them. Don't think I could have had better luck with the sizing/fit. If I belt 'em up and wear 'em like an adult they look nice and can be dressed up, and I still have the option of letting them ride a little lower and it changes the whole vibe of the cut, speaking to its versatility.

And the denim is aging beautifully and fading surprisingly quickly with great contrast, which I actually wasn't expecting given the weight of the denim. My first pair of raw denim were APC and I always thought that the only reason the contrast was so sharp with those was that they are only around 12-13 ounces. This is obviously a much more interesting denim but in terms of how fast they're evolving I've been very pleased.

Also, I expected these to feel, honestly, completely miserable in even 80 degree weather, but somehow I don't feel that much of a difference between these and my 14oz N&F weird guy's as far as breathability (word?) goes.

Can't wait to see how these progress. I'll be posting a picture once I get some more camera-visible action going on.

Sorry for gushing like a dork.

  13. I had just made 10 slots, I have no problem expanding the competition allow to more people unless anyone opposed. Phoenix in these things is going to be rough, but I'm excited to see fades from a daily biker. At least you have that dry heat haha.

Oh, it's a dry heat until you're in it, and then you sweat and your clothes stick to you. It will be a test of my determination. That's for sure.

Phoenix = denim dork proving grounds.

  14. Glad I made it into the contest! Was there a ten person limit or was that just how many slots were listed? I would have died a little inside if I bought my first pair of contest denim and missed the opportunity to participate in the contest.

Also my first pair of super premium selvage denim (I have previously rocked what many would consider to be "entry level"; I have a pair of APCs [New Cure], a pair of Naked & Famous [Weird Guy in Deep Indigo] and a pair of 3-Sixteens which I will feel guilty retiring temporarily).

I was really in the market for some black jeans but when I saw these I couldn't resist. We'll see how I fair this summer, since I live in Phoenix and get around exclusively via bicycle.

Can't wait for this beast to arrive in the mail!

  15. I have been thinking of grabbing a pair of these. It's hard to really tell without having them side-by-side so I was wondering if anyone knows how the back pocket size is compared to, for example, some APCs? I have a big beastly Corter wallet and I'd like to avoid the severe pocket mutilation I've put some of my jeans through.

  16. The broken twills look almost black.

wonder if they'll take longer to break in than other N&F denim?

I was wondering this same thing. I notice their website just has them listed as "indigo". I'm wondering if they'll take as long to fade as the plain indigo weird guy's that seem to be so stubborn.

  17. hey guys i need some help here... my red wefts smell nasty cause of a bon fire the other night. I dont want to wash them cause they are about a month and a half in. Any tips to get the smell out?

I have used baking soda to remove oil stains on my jeans. I basically put it on the spot, rubbed it in, and vacuumed it out the next day. I bet you could try it on your whole jeans. Maybe put 'em in a trash bag with it, shake it around. The vacuum gets 90% of the baking soda out and the other 10% comes out if you slap 'em around :P
