  1. Hey dudes, so my SE05BSPs are fading pretty stingy and I'm wondering if thats how I am wearing or if it's a property of the jeans. I admit I am not doing a whole lot in them, on my ass coding and walking mostly.  I'll try to take some pictures later, but anyways, is this something anyone else has experienced?

  2. It's just that the denim we wear is really difficult to size perfectly. Shrinking then stretching at different times. I think if people were only worried about wearing a belt for sizing though they wouldn't pay the money or take the time to make these type of belts. They would just go buy a cheaper one. To me quality leather belts look great and I like how they evolve. I don't think it looks good not to wear a belt either. So I would wear one regardless of how my jeans fit in the waist.

I'm in a weird place where the jeans that I bought fit my waist better than any belt I own.  Wearing a belt right now seems to compromise the comfort of my fit.  So while I like a nice belt, I'm rocking without one just as a matter of practicality until I can buy a better fitting new belt.

Speaking of which, can I expect a new belt to stretch at all? How long does that process take?  Any new straight belt I have ever bought tends to warp into an arc shape, so it must stretch to some degree right?

  3. ...Also leather goes through an evolution process much like denim so they seem to fit in well together!

That they do, I do love the look.  And it's not like I've never worn a belt, I used to wear one all the time with my New Standards that were a tad loose.  Then I got my new Flat Heads and at first I started to wear the belt out of habit or style or something.  But soon I realized they fit better on their own.

  4. Weird question.

You think so? I figure people go through a lot of effort to make sure their jeans fit when they are spending hundreds of dollars on them. So if they do fit, why wear a belt unless you really like the look?

My jeans fit me perfectly, so I don't wear a belt. It would just be some new thing to buy and size correctly so that it wasn't too loose or to tight and ruin the fit my jeans already have.

  5. Kawatako Brass Key Hook

Leather key holder is made by an old leather worker from Helsingborg Sweden. He have been in the trade for 40 years or so. He is around 60-65 years old.

I told him that he should put his stuff online. But he does not feel like it sadly. He is to close to retirement.

    Anyway.

Here is the name of the store.

    And the location.

    Bazaar Shangri-La

Yeah the leather key holder really aged beautifully. I'd love to buy his stuff, shame he isn't with the whole interweb commerce thing.

  6. So I just got a new pair of New Standards and am wondering are these worth soaking before I start wearing them?  As far as I know APC's are all sanforized so soaking them for the shrink doesn't seem right. Is there another reason to soak?

  7. Newb Question:

I just got a pair of APC New Standards, and from what I understand APC's are sanforized.  So is it worthwhile to soak them before I start wearing them daily like I do with my raw denim?  Getting the shrink out is the only reason I know that the soak is for, but I am wondering if a soak might help them fade faster or something else.  I don't know, just feels like I should soak them for reason.

    Help??

  8. Hey guys, I am a complete newb to leather care and have been rocking brands without leather patches for a while now, but I just got some Flat Head BSP's and want to do right by the leather patch. That said, how can I go from the leather patch as it comes

    to something more like this

I understand some of this has to do with just wearing and breaking in. But should I be using polish to darken? What specific products should I be investing in? Obenauf's has been mentioned specifically a few times in the thread.  But which product? Just the Obenauf's Oil? Obenauf's Heavy LP? I'd appreciate if those that know could break off a newb with some knowledge.

  9. Newb question here.  I searched the forums but couldn't find an immediate answer.  What is the deal with all the thick leather belts?  I understand that if leather is too thin it might tear but it seems some belts on here are the opposite extreme and are wayyyy thicker than they need to be to be long lasting.  My current belt measures in at about 3.5 mm, has lasted me 8-9 years or so, is in great shape, and will probably last many years to come.  So what is the super thick leather thing just hype, or is it in some appreciable way that much better?

  10. It's hard to compare New Standards with The Flat Head jeans in terms of fit. The F310 or 3001 are both great slim fits with slightly less taper than the NS. The 3002 or SE05BSP have a similar top fit but taper below the knee so are probably closer to the fit you're after.

I cosign this.  I have been wearing New Standards for years and wanted to move up to a higher tier brand, so I just bought some SE05BSP's from Self Edge in NY. While the taper is slightly less than the NS I am VERY happy with these. I had mine hemmed a few inches and now they might be the best fitting jeans I own.

  11. Non-showing selvage is still selvage, they just couldn't get the ID because they tapered the jeans from both the inseam and outseam.  If you want something with the selvage ID I'd say go for the 555-01's on the IH website.

Thanks for explaining.  But that's confusing, selvage denim to me is in part defined by having selvage seams.  The jeans could be made on a shuttle loom with high quality, heavy weight denim, but the moment you cut the "self edge" off they cease to be selvage denim jeans.

  12. So I'm in NYC and went to Self Edge on Orchard St and bought some 301s' today, they fit wel but maybe just a little snug in the thigh.  But when I got them home and had a closer look I was appalled to find out that they ARE NOT truly selvage denim.  The outer seam is a stitched seam! On the Self Edge website they describe them as "Non-Showing Outer Seam Selvedge" but really, it's just a open stitched seam. For as much as I spent I don't care how good these jeans may be: no selvage, no deal.  I'm taking them back tomorrow.

Any one else notice this? Or care for that matter? Am I just a crazy person?

    Edit:

Did a search and people are calling them selvage but that they were just tapered too thin to keep the selvage... sorry but that's BS.  If you cut away the selvage and make an stitched open seam how are you still selvage denim? Sure it's still high quality denim, made on a shuttle loom and all that, but not selvage.  That's part of the look I want.  Pretty lame of them to advertise it falsely.

  13. ^not really, they all fit very different. Safest guess would be uniqlo or Brooks bros esf.

Just read through this thread, it's not that long.

Uniqlo definitely. They are the best I have found so far, but they don't do online orders anymore and it is a pain to travel to NYC to shop for shirts. I was hoping to find another brand that might be online.

  14. Hello all, I've had an account for a while but have just started posting in the forums. I did a forum search and did not find a good answer to my question so I pose it to you, the hive mind.

I have, for a while now, been on hunt for a reliable brand that sells good quality, form fitting dress shirts that aren't impossibly expensive. Most brands are cut for bigger men and all the extra material doesn't look so flattering when you are a slim guy and look like you're drowning in your shirt. Does anyone have any suggestions?
