  1. One other thing you may consider....

When IH put out their 21/23.5 oz jean they recommended a wash.. even more than a soak.

One customer bought these and wore them straight away - no soak, no nothing - and because the fabric was so sttiff and abrasive it made the stitching fall apart within 6 months.

The DB jean is an even heavier weight... and I would assume you will come across a similar problem if you don't soften up the denim with a soak.

Thanks for a reasonable advice! I remember my skull with its broken stitching. I think I will give them some soak...

  2. There's another thread on the SExDBxSxS12 on here where people were discussing how much their pair shrank after a soak, check that out to get everyones results. I lost an inch in the inseam but really not much anywhere else. Some others results varied...

But wearing them in the soak will help a lot. Keep them on til they dry some too.

Thats why I decided not to do it =/

My sanforized even shrink more than these...

  3. the jeans sure do shrink.

    they also fade pretty easily.

so if you aren't going to do an initial soak, count on your fades shifting...

ok, I have reason I decided not to soak them.

I saw many unsanforized jeans which just shrink as little as sanforized jeans do. Most sanforized jeans I've own shrink 1" in waist and a bit for other parts.

and the shrink rate for these jeans that selfedge website claim are 1" in waist and just 0.2 for other parts. I means I see no different than a sanforized these jeans are!

But since you guys warn me, its good thing. I also want to know if anyone soaked them and notice much changes in shrinking. Please let me know, I will have to soak mine then, Thanks!

  4. ^ I have heard that if you don't wash your denim, the sweat and dirt that builds up starts to make the denim weaker and more likely to tear. I was just wondering if the spilled nestea would have a similar effect.

But yeah Ponga, your information helped a lot. You say that when you cold soaked your imperials, they stayed 'almost' same as pre-soak. What changed exactly if you dont mind me asking? Also, how exactly did you cold soak them? Like, did you do it inside out and how cold was your water? And what did you use for a drying process?

My dukes at 7-9 months are very very stiff as hell, and yes, I think it's because all dirt and sweat and I feel they are likely to break down.

the main different is the soak make them incredible soft and lose their "glittering". My jeans at 9 months are also have some "glittering" like when you wear a wax jeans for long period. (I can't think of the right word to explain it since English is not my native) I think sweat and dirt created a thin "wax" layer... After soak they became more rough, but the color is very same as I can tell, it's no different in color to me.

as I remember, the water should be 20-30 oC, inside out and dried by air-condition room! (lol, it was a rainy day!)

  5. True, but I'm just wondering if the sugar or anything else from the drink would effect the denim in terms of fading or durability.

I've heard Salt and Vinegar set dye, prevent fade. but I don't know how much they effect.

    never heard about the durability...

  6. If i do decide to wash what should I do? Machine wash, cold soak or hot soak? Any suggestions/ tips?

Depend on what do you want your jeans to turn out.

Base on my experience, this Imperial's flagship denim doesn't hold indigo well. and have high indigo loss during wash. I have seen a pair washed by machine in 60oc and turned out very blueish. I kind of love the look of "raw worn" on my dukes which is grey-greenish so I decided to just do 1 hour cold soak them at 9 months and I love the result that they stay almost same as pre-soak.

    hope my info helps! :)
