  1. heh you're in Hong Kong, I see. Say hi if you run into a 6'4 Chinese guy with glasses around town dressed like a bum with a Contax G2 taking pictures of strangers at a socially inappropriate distance.

nicely spotted heh. i'm still building up that dgaf attitude to shooting strangers. luckily it's a bit easier when your a tourist.

I actually left hk nearly a week ago. was only a short stay (3 nights). didn't get much shooting done actually, although i did find a nice little film camera place near my hotel. the portra was reasonably priced.

  2. Right now, im trying to keep it around 800. id be using it for school/portfolio and hopefully someday work.

I been looking at the t2i and the only thing it seems to lack that the t3 has is the flip out screen. Ive seen the t2i priced brand new at 799 for the body and an 18-55mm lens. So its lookin like the t2i.

Thanks for the help/suggestion, much appreciated.

^ also something you might wanna think about is that those cameras iirc have crop sensors.

so a 50mm lens won't actually look like 50mm it'll be a bit more zoomed in.

also if your buying second hand look out for the amount of shutter actuations a camera has already had, they have a limited (albeit long) lifespan.

  3. fWanted rick monkey boots, but can't afford them right now...

Planning to spray paint the sole/stitching black

y/n? any other suggestions for monkey boots?

YAY and there's no need to spray paint if you can track down these (style name is peter boot):

also you'll find the shape irl isn't as bulky and it also improves with a bit of wear, the shape is perfect imo.

i would avoid the trickers monkey boots if you wanted the rick jawnz in the first place, completely different style.

  4. ^ I use my uni's Epson v700 flatbed scanner. has dedicated film scanning software and film neg holders for scanning. i think that's one of the higher end models though. you can get one of the lower end models (like v200, v500) which i assume produce comparable/similar results.

there's no need to get one of those pro scanning setups. a decent flatbed scanner with film neg scanning capability is good enough for most purposes.

  5. ah that sucks, sorry to hear that Protocol. I've become quite paranoid about self-developing important rolls. good thing i found a place in Mong Kok that's pretty cheap including the scanned CD, have scratched quite a few films using the university darkroom/scanners.

yeh i'd had no trouble before that roll so carelessly didn't even think about not risking an important roll. i still don't understand how it fucked up...

i'll actually be in hk in a few months time so would be interested to know how much it costs to develop a roll over there? also is film cheap/easy to buy in hk? if so, i might as well stock up there before i do the whole asia tour.

  8. First time developing film by myself...was in a rush, didn't give time for the negatives to dry so they (and the prints) are fucked; can't really see in the scans but there are subtle blotches all over them from putting in plastic right away. Need to book the dark room for a longer period next time...

looks like a decent first attempt there fade, i can't see any enormous watermarks on the scans which always was a problem when i first started (still is sometimes).

out of interest, what developer-film combo did you use? and what speed did you meter your shots at?
