  1. Looking good, CTB - really liking how the fades look on the lighter denim....there's hope for my Hotei Fan yet! The D330 is so soft though, and seems to be much harder to put wear on than any of my other pairs. I'm a patient fella though.... :)

  2. I'd tend to agree with all of you, as regards holding off on a wash - my job doesn't help though, as it's basically frenetic bursts of energy, punctuated by periods sat at a desk....so there's been plenty of opportunity for sweating, then a good knee crease and stretch while it soaks in. And after about 6 weeks of that rotation, I've ended up with some extremely comfortable, but rather dank jeans! The flashed-out pictures gave a truly disappointing representation of how they're looking, too. And, in all fairness, they've had no water on them at all up to this point, as (for no particular reason) I never pre-soak any of my sanforized denim.

Plus, it doesn't help that they've had a trip to Vegas with me. Even several weeks later, there's still a little of that 'essence' captured in them - although, in that regard, they're far better off than my Hotei Fans.....I've worn those fairly solidly on 3 trips down there now, but I've held off on a wash, as I probably only have 3 weeks of wear time on them in total. That said though, they have something of an aura about them, uncannily close to the heady aroma of a casino carpet (not that I've ever bent down and sniffed one, you understand.....).

Anyhow, 'nuff babbling - here's the scan of the Yamane vs. Lightning 15th Anniversary tee I mentioned in an earlier post....I believe the whole series of tees for this go on sale starting tomorrow (13th):

  3. No.2 Black Kamome - worn daily for 6 weeks, getting their first wash today (gentle cycle, cold water)....denim has softened up immensely over the duration. Grey, miserable day means I could only get pics with the flash, which has really taken the edge off of them. Oh well....:

  4. Not sure if anyone else has seen the latest issue of Lightning yet, but as it's their 15th anniversary edition, they commissioned a large (30-something different designs!) range of limited edition t-shirts from various Japanese & US clothing (often denim) outfits. One of the shirts is by Yamane, and is an edition of 50....although the design is one of the more, er....abstract among them. A purple shirt (with some nice detailing, admittedly), with a black drawing of a face (that looks like it was done in charcoal or chalk), with the number "15" and "50" written on either side. Being sold through Lightning, starting from April 13th, if I'm understanding it correctly....

The written description is perhaps a little insufficient, so happen I'll post a scan of the picture up later, if I remember.

Oh, and after a month of solid wear, the No.2 Black Kamome are now very comfortable indeed, and wearing in nicely - although for the first few days (while I was doing a lot of walking around on a visit to Las Vegas), they chafed and scraped the living daylights out of my upper (and thankfully, outer) thighs. Cue bright red dry skin, blisters, and some light bleeding. Such pain was thankfully completely absent by the second week. And, yeah yeah....progress pics soon!

  5. If I do end up ordering a pair of left-hands, I doubt I'll be cuffing them - I'd need to order them with a raw inseam of about 39" for that (I'm a tall skinny fella!). Looks good with the work boots, though.

  6. Getting more and more curious about Ooe....last thing I need right now is another pair of jeans to work on, but I'm not sure I can resist these for much longer!

Anyone ordered a pair using any of the left-hand denims so far? And if so, how have they been....?

  7. There were supposed to be some pairs of R vs L heading to the US for sale in the North American online store....but if they've already sold out elsewhere, perhaps that's no longer an option.

You may want to try sending e-mails to the folks at Evisu in London and NYC to see if they could help you out - it's worked wonders for me in the past.

  8. Even now the rivets and button have changed again. My Leepro rivets said Osaka on them.

I was hoping someone else would mention this - yes, on my Left vs. Right, and No.2 Black Kamome, the rivets say "Evisu & Co. Est. Osaka" on the reverse side....whereas on my Hotei Fan & Nakame Minami they're just blank. Another nice new touch.

  9. Some pics, as promised - forgive the artificial lighting, it's as gloomy as all get out here today (hailing and snowing outside, too)....

There's a very nice belt that was slipped into the package with my Hotei Fans, plus the brand-spanking-new black kamome 0005's in No.2, and Left vs Right (including the thread-wrapped denim line....which was done to mimic vintage Lee's, so I was informed):

More to follow in next post.... :)

  10. Exchange rate is about $1.41 to the Pound right now - so although the Gyokaku No.1 jean is $270 on the US store site, to buy them (ex-VAT) from the international store would currently cost the equivalent of $227 or thereabouts....of course, that's not factoring in delivery costs, or the potential for customs duty.

  11. Well, my package arrived today, and I guess I misunderstood what Matt had said in his e-mail about my pair of Right vs Left - it's the selvedge line on the No.13 side that is different (one side is wrapped in thread, as opposed to the indigo line) - not the denim fabric itself. So I do have one side in No.13, and the other in No.2....which is great as far as I'm concerned.

I also got a pair of 0005's with a plain Black Kamome design, in No.2 denim. These may be part of the Summer 2009 line-up, although the tag says "AW09"....so who knows. They look great, anyhow.

One thing to note about both of these pairs, is that they feel a little tighter on the waist than my Hotei Fan 0005's did - but that may just be because the denim on these feels a lot thicker and heavier than the D660 ever did. Matt did state that the actual waist on these (both are tagged 32) are 34", and I thought the older 0005 pairs used to run 35" on the actual. That said, they fit fine though, and I'm sure they've got a bit of stretch in 'em too.

I know you guys all love pics, so I'll be sure to post some in the next couple of days....

  12. Hello there....been watching the chatter on the denim forum here (and this thread in particular) for a while now, finally decided to take the plunge and join in.

Don't think I've noticed anyone else mention this yet, but there appears to be two versions of the "Right vs Left" jeans knocking about. One is obviously the variation on sale at the Evisu international online store, split between No.13 & No.2 denim. But there also appears to be an "all L3ft" version....if you compare the pictures at various online stores, you can see both kinds (for example, the Zoovillage page shows a pair with No.13 & No.2 patches, Stayhard's pics have both patches showing No.13).

I have a pair on the way (via Evisu NYC - hopefully arriving tomorrow), and these are apparently No.13 both sides too.

Anyone else picked up either of these, and if so, how are you liking them so far.....?
