  1. fuck the nay sayers, haven't we moved beyond this dogmatic cult of indigo bullshit?

you guys fall over yourselves to fellate cotton duck when he sews pieces of raw denim and leather all over a pair of jeans (see here and here)

but you can't recognize how awesome this and this and this are?

(edit: nothing but respect meant towards cotton)

+ rep. perfectly illustrated. there's a bit of journalist in you. or you've been watching too much daily show lately.

  2. Everyone needs to stop whining about how these two have somehow artificially faded their jeans and have subsequently ruined them. This is ridiculous. The jeans are clearly not ruined.

My friends and I have come to the realization that a pair of japanese denim is just about the one of greatest pairs of pants man has ever made. That being said, you can do anything in them. Honestly. I'm becoming convinced my pair has superhuman powers...almost.

I feel many people around here aren't aggressive outdoors people, nor are they artistically inclined so its tough for them to imagine what our day to day lives must be like. Kawawaka for example yesterday went swimming in a freezing cold river. I wouldn't even do that, but he does stuff like that every day. Its in his nature. And how he wears his jeans is much more true to the spirit of denim than a graphic designer who wears his jeans to the office every day. Our lives are interesting, experimental, and at times can be pretty abstract and surreal, but we're always having fun and playing. I think that's the main point, the jeans have brought out a renewed sense of childhood in all of us and we're all just playing like we used to, remember, when you didn't give a shit about your clothes?

    ONEDAY.

  3. how did the thread on that one pocket get so trashed in 2 months?

a minor wipe out on my longboard. I stitched it back together just before going out to a party with friends. I'll have to make a more permanent repair in the future.

The paint in no way has ruined the jeans--in a few weeks it will be much more faded and less pronounced, leaving subtle and very interesting color contrasts. I might even need to paint them again. Looking for the perfect momotaro peach color.

  4. Thanks almostnice, I get it now. It seems to me as though wabi-sabi refers to the wear caused by gentle, repetitive action, whereas what Klue and his "buddy" have done seems no be a series of different one-off shock treatments and and certainly not gentle......so definitley not wabi sabi.

On the other hand, its progressive and artful, or at least seems so thus far.

none of the treatments are as extreme as you think. you can't really call them treatments either, more like techniques. Don't be afraid to experiment. You can't wear these jeans too hard because in the end it always looks great.

  5. I like how they make sufu more colourfull!:)

thanks. The back pocket was getting too faded for my liking, due mostly to sliding around in the snow and was starting to tear in places. The acrylic paint is actually better than I expected. the colors look great foremost and as an extra bonus adds a significant amount of strength. Turns out japanese denim is a wonderful canvas.

  6. Hey guys. I've been riding my San Jose for the past year now but always with the free wheel. I generally only ride in nicer weather, a lot of weekend rides and to and from soccer practice. For short commutes around campus and town I tend ride my longboard... But when the weather turns around this spring I want to begin riding fixed gear.

What pedals are recommended? I'm not looking for clip-ins, yet...
