  4. I'm selling a pair of Vintage Fabiano Mountaineering Boots in size 11.5 D. I'd love to keep them but I like money.

Fabianos were made by Scarpa of Italy for years and then went kaput.

They fit a bit small, an 11 or even a 10.5 would have little problem wearing these. The boots have no cushioned insole, but rather just a leather footbed on top of a leather midsole and a Vibram outsole. They feel like comfortable dress shoes. They lace up tight, and I think they're boots even for casual wear. The color is reddish brown with lighter brown highlights, creating an almost irridescent effect. The leather is thick and can either be shined or conditioned to a subtle glow.

The soles are double stitched (norweigian welted) and screwed on. The uppers and linings are all leather and pleasantly padded at the heels and collars. The tongues are gusseted with velcro pads to keep them in place and sueded on the inside for comfort. There are two sets of traditional eyelets at the very bottom, then it's hooks the rest of the way up. There are two nicks on the toes, a couple thorn pokes in the back, and the unavoidable scratches that plague smooth leather, but by mountaineering boot standards these are like new. The hard vibram soles have but the slightest amount of wear on the heels, barely worth mentioning. They will endure years of abuse. Flexes somewhat in the forefoot, I'm thinking 1/2-3/4th steel shank.

As far as performance goes, a lot of people swear by the vintage boots of this kind for their durability, lack of gore-tex or fabric linings, looks, and overall heft. Others prefer newer gore-tex lined boots which are generally much lighter and easier to waterproof due to the lack of exposed stitching. Me, I don't like gore-tex and I like the vintage look.

My price is $220 shipped conus, based on original retail of $300, their overall condition and rarity, and the current price of comparable boots, such as Limmer - which sells their Standard boot for $600. Feel free to make a reasonable offer.
