  1. Hey guys.

I don't post much on SF, but I thought I'd share my excitement about my new (and old) Ande Whalls.

My brand new main line Mustangs just arrived and they look great. I'll spare the obligatory unboxing/unwrapping photo, but here is the inter-generational photo of them next to my well worn Grifters from a long long time ago:

The old Grifters are from back in the days when Ande was using unsanforized Cone Mills denim. They wore really well and got some good fade despite never being washed. Yeah, 3 years before they were retired and no washes. Kinda dumb!

One of the great features was the heavy canvas pockets. It was rough on the knuckles for the first few months, but it softened up eventually and was quite strong.

Now here's the unboxing photo... the Grifters back in Nov. '08:

So here's to Ande and beating the hell out of a crisp new pair of his jeans!

  2. Honestly, I think I prefer leaving the whole design up to Ande. I want a pair of AW-designed denim, not SuFu-designed denim. Anyone else feel this way?

yup. let ande do his thing.

i'm being tempted by some other jeans... dying for some details here.

  3. roy6, i too would be poking roy in the leg with a 'tripod' if i was watching him work with all that denim... BOING!

good research everyone. i was drawn to roy by the jeans, but the duck pants, the jacket, and pretty much everything else i have seen in this thread are hijacking my interest!

  4. Rob060 (and a message to all), don't even bother with measuring your waist, just measure a pair of jeans you like the fit of. It's easier to compare measurements of jeans to measurements of other jeans... the 3D measurement of your waist/thigh/whatever will just complicate things.

    And as reported, the 33 is REALLY a 33 (16.5 x 2)!

ande's guide on the site is the best way:

METHOD #1: Flat measure some of your current jeans that fit snug in the waist, a freshly washed pair is good. Disregard the listed tag size. Be sure to square up the top of the waistband and firmly pull out the sides to its maximum width. Measure across the top of the waistband and double this measurement.

  5. nice to see the new details emerging. lots of nice new touches, though i'm not one of those people who needs selvege hanging off of every seam on my jeans.

still trying to pin down the tone of the new denim. pics on the site look streaky, the pics a couple pages ago look kind of light.

was hoping for some dark dark indigo to contrast with my older sanforized grifters!
