  1. The confusion stems from the definition of loop wheeler knitting machines. There are many varieties of these I will try my best to explain two I have experience with.

The falling loop wheel knitting machine:

These knit one to two threads at a time, they are usually from the turn of the 20th century. The knitting process is incredibly slow taking up to a day and a half what other machines can do in a few hours. The benefit is the fabric tube is not stretched or spun in any way. The knits are superb quality but the machines require fastidious attention. The professionals working with these machines are craftspeople.

The modern high speed loop wheeler:

These machines can operate many weaving operations at once. They knit a tube fabric however it is spun and stretched on a drum within the machine. These machines generally turn out a twisted knit. You can see bands in the fabric as these machines knit 10 to 40 threads at a time. These machines require attention but are not nearly as finicky as the falling loop wheelers.

Both are loop wheeled fabric. But the quality is completely different. The twist in the fabric is the big difference and completely changes the fit and feel.

  2. im really close to getting a couple.  I just have to decide on the colors.  One of each is unfortunately not an option, as much as I would love to have one of each.  Are you planning on doing another write up?

Takes a month or so to complete an order typically. It'll be a good post...;-)

  3. Nope and nope, been discussing loop wheeled tees this evening, and frankly the comfort, fit and quality of the cotton is waaaay more important to me than whether they were made by wizards, up a mountain in Okayama, using unicorn teeth to loop wheel them.

Just wanted to correct one thing. Most of the knitting in Japan is done in Nara and Wakayama, not Okayama.

  4. I agree. Tezomeya and Flat Head loopwheeled fabrics are on the opposite ends of the spectrum.

Both in feel of the fabric and looks.

Just wanted to let you know I'll be at Tezomeya tomorrow and Masaaki just wanted to say thanks or sharing his stuff. Also thanks for linking back to me too. Glad you're enjoying your t-shirts. Also that purple one is dye with insect galls.

  5. I am in US and I used a proxy. Tezomeya will ship direct but will not accept Paypal. You have to order thru its online shop and use your credit card. The interface is not geared toward US credit card processing. It did not work for me so I used a proxy.

Keep in mind that once you ordered, it'll take a few weeks to ship. Tezomeya dyes the shirts after the order is made.

I'll post some pics this weekend. The outside of the t-shirt has this horizontal irregular texturea but the inside is smooth, similar to Flat Head's loopwheel t. It's also a lighter weight fabric compare to FH.

Glad you enjoyed them. Great feel to that unbleached organic cotton right?!

  6. you put yourself off as a kind of representative and authority of; because of this people have accused you of working for kaptial and attributed rude and bigoted statements made by you to kaptial; regardless, you have failed to clarify your relationship with kapital.

the information i posted, including a link to your linkedin profile, was an attempt to clarify your relationship with kaptial.

your linkedin profile is not personal information but rather information (including resume and full-name) that you have chosen advertise publicly on a career website (presumably to avail yourself of the benefits of such advertisement) linked through your sufu profile.

    Point out that bigoted statement.

Nah you have used it in a malicious attempt to slander me for some unknown reason. I think I have stated my relationship a few posts ago, but you chose to ignore it and continue your own personal campaign.

You assume so many things but where is your reason for them? You live under the safety of anonymity which is one of the reasons why you feel like you can say what you want. Because of users like you who contribute absolutely nothing, this site has slowly deteriorated.

You didn't join this thread or conversation for any other reason but to try and discredit me. That much is obvious just look at everything you have said here.

  7. http://www.linkedin....acek/39/7a9/9b5

mr. lukacek doesn't list kapital on his linkedin site, so perhaps this poster isn't associated formally with the brand

(this and other info can be found publicly on bandanna almanac's personal website linked on his sufu profile)

it's thus strange why he is acting like a kapital rep on here..and his condescending explanation (businesses need to make profits and cover expenses) is even harder to understand now...

I am still annoyed this hasn't been taken down. Dude got all personal for no reason. And really apparently as it turns out has nothing to do with Kapital.

  8. i've never been an owner of kapital products (honestly i can't afford it to no fault of the brand itself) but have been following the kapital thread for a while now because of the admiration for the products they make. i think we can all agree that jon is a subject matter expert on the brand itself and has been more than helpful in providing us with a whole lot of information, requests for proxy etc without asking for anything in return. while there are times that he does indeed appear to be a bit snarky, by no means do i think it was out of malice or anything. it's just the way how he is and i honestly don't think there is a generic model template for everybody.

i do still regard him highly for the work he does and the depth of knowledge that he has. sometimes i think we take for granted that everybody is paul trynka-nice (for LVC enquiries). jon just seems to me like someone with a very strong mind of his own about the things and values he believes in and has been pretty objective all this while to kapital related matters. i might not be his biggest fanboy but i don't think he bothers about things like that and i guess that's what i respect this guy for.

Damn tears are welling up. Support from you guys makes it worth it. Being a fan and a customer I can't help being albeit over-passionate at times.

  9. Take a look at the debate regarding my comments on a Kapital shirt (p 13 of this thread) for an example of the over-zealous attitude certain people have toward Kapital and any perceived criticism of the brand.

I thought that issue was resolved on page 14?

But he is still upset and crying over it on page 20.

    >sigh<

  11. Yes that's exactly my question - why is the price so much higher? I was hoping for an explanation/possible answer. What I got was someone intimate with the brand telling me retailers need to make profits use a proxy. How is that an explanation. Did I expect someone intimate with the brand to describe their business model? No, and I didn't ask them to. Otherwise I'd have emailed Kapital directly. So the response to my question was someone "intimate with the brand" as you describe saying the questions answered "there is no debate". And questioning my mental state in a discriminatory and insulting manner. But you think that's OK?

Why do you end your reply with a question? Nobody is discriminating against you. But why argue with someone who is inconsolable... Your argument seems to be with BiG and not with Kapital, so maybe you should check with them before asking in the Kapital forum. But I was kind enough to offer an answer, and you threw a tantrum. But if you do have bi-polar issues then I am truly sorry for putting you on the spot, but if it was just bitching then chill out.

If someone else wants to answer his question, please do so. I don't need someone to try and discredit me after attempting to answer his query. After LFC4 and Ironheartfan started abusing the forum by posting personal links and trying to fuck with my work on my blog and with Kapital, I refuse to contribute here.

  12. So am I if this really turns out to be the case. But I'd hate to unfairly go against the brand if he isn't affiliated with them....but if he is it's disgraceful and should be brought to Kapitals immediate attention.

I was just inquiring on your mental state because the nature of your reply was agressive and angry when my simple reply had no negative intent. Which is why I asked your mental state in order to avoid a pointless albeit too late, argument.

  13. Seriously, I've asked a legitimate question and encouraged some debate around it in order to get some information. I understand people are in business to make a profit (when you say "cover their customs expenses" er they have to do this for every imported product so completly irrelevant to my point about price differentials.} I know I can go through a proxy. I just pointed out I've done this before.

I also pointed out I try and buy through retailers based on service and don't mind them charging a premium. In fact I'm happy to pay it and have done - ask Gordon how many pairs of fucking jeans I've bought from him. Probably around 40 pairs. Probably around 20 from Self Edge. So I find your post condescending and ignorant to be honest.

Are you saying we should have some sort of censorship on this forum and not ask any questions regarding pricing models? That's the message I'm getting.

There is nothing to debate, I gave you the answer.

    Condescending? You bi-polar or something?

  15. Retailers set their own prices, they have to make a profit, and the have to cover their customs expenses. If you want Kapital stuff and not pay ridiculous prices go through a proxy.

  16. hoggreaser, O-Y will adjust the pocket spacing off the center to whatever you want. Just be sure to discuss it with them. They've done it for me on two pairs now.

My 4403 pics are dead. I'll reupload them soon. The fabric does age very nicely, but if you like contrast it is tough to break! Are Ryo and Hiro telling you people can finally get some 44?

Basically the 44 is on hiatus.

  17. Dammit, wish I hadn't slept on that Century denim (or that I had money in the bank account when they were released). Personally, I think these are way more covetable than any collaboration or limited edition denim I have seen yet, although I imagine these were really limited in production

Consider yourself lucky to own a pair! Please wear them hard so we can see how they look when faded.

    I can always proxy them.
