Second the rec to visit.

Moved out here last year, going from NYC to an Eastside suburb of Seattle. The weather is crazy unpredictable. That's about the only constant. Came out west looking for green and quiet.

There are lots of transplants in the area, and the locals will let you know it. It's a passive aggressive provincialism. On the whole, I was pleasantly surprised by the level and quality of produce and ingredients available to me as a cook. As for lady clothing, it's a bit disappointing.

Most restaurants border on mediocre, but I was pretty spoiled. Have only found two restaurants I willingly seek.

You'd probably want to look near Wallingford/UW area. I found Ballard and Fremont irritating, but I'm just being grouchy.
