  1. I'm finally starting to look like I might be getting the system here at school down better and might have some more time and definitely need to get back into excercising and was thinking running would probably be a decent / cheap way to get into it. Any of you folks have suggestions for getting into running in terms of 'excercising'? Would it be better to do a few short times a week or maybe two longer runs? Mainly just trying to figure out how to work it into my schedule at this point.

I was in the same situation a long time ago, maybe even with worse baseline fitness. I started running a few short times a week focusing on extend the longest distance I could keep running without a break. My philosophy is that this is better for beginner runners since there is less strain, there is less possibility of bad form causing injuries. Intervals are great only but only after you get familiar with the smoothest way for your body to move.

    It worked for me anyway...

  2. ^ Is that a pista? I think it would look better with a flat stem, but otherwise I like it.

Unrelated: I am, unfortunately due to a crappy job moving, in the market for a new frame. Does anyone know if someone makes (new) frames with a 126mm rear spacing? I'd rather not mess with the hub.

  3. I think most of the stretching at the waist come from when you are seated. The fit at the waist when you're standing straight up will be its loosest. Most likely they will still stretch quite a bit at the waist just from daily movement, especially if you wear them lower than your actual waist.

  4. ^ its a little glitchy. if you click too fast or drag the map around with overexaggerated movements the application gets confused. If you keep the cursor in the map screen though, basically double click places a point, and you keep placing points till all the route is recorded.

Laishin: I guess for that distance electrolytes during the race shouldnt be a big deal. do drink some water though, and good luck with the hills! =)

  5. Recently i bought 2 Petit Standards, one in Tokyo (blue), and one in Hongkong (black). Look at the diiferent..Should just stick to buying in Tokyo.

    Tokyo bought Above,

    Hongkong bought Below.

looks like redline selvage to me....

edit: also i wanted to make the point that theres a SLIGHT difference between a jean that is made from selvage denim and a selvage jean. In one case, that nice pretty edge is preserved. Most people find that small little detail aesthetically pleasing and so it's something that is marketed.

  6. I think in general its less common, and therefore more expensive, to see black selvage denim. Just from personal experience, I haven't seen black selvage from anywhere near APC's price point. The quality and weight of the denim still seems good though.

Even if normal (indigo) NCs are made from the exact same denim as NSs (if the cloth starts with a selvage line), the selvage line would be lost because of the cut of the leg makes keeping it unreasonable. Technically it's no longer a selvage jean, even if the original cloth was selvage, since the weft threads don't double back (they've been cut and have to be sewn tight to prevent fraying).

Just as a note, its possible to have quality denim without it necessarily being selvage.

  7. For a long time in college I used to run at 2AM because thats when the bars let out and the police were all over the place. Since I wasn't drunk and the police were everywhere, it was the safest time of day to run...

I don't like frees for normal running. Don't know about newer ones but the old ones wore out way too fast. They're nice for track workouts though.

  8. Gonna run in a short marathon this coming sunday. Have some questions.

    -Does Electrolyte help (at all)?

-This might sound rather stupid. But does drafting work in running? lol

    1) YES. Prevents cramping near the end.

    2) Only if you can run with the kenyans. or if its very windy.

How is it a short marathon? Aren't they all 26.2?

  9. i'm thinking of buying a suit. i have a costume national blazer that i love the fit of (i have long arms) so i've been checking some of them out, but i'm wondering if anyone know anything about fit of the pants. I hear they're a bit baggy?

  10. Eating before running isn't too much of a big deal as long as you 1) don't eat too much, and 2) don't eat disagreeable foods. The second case you kind of learn as you go. With that said, if you feel like you have enough energy for a run without a snack, then its probably best not to eat since you're stomach won't be sloshing as much.

Same goes for drinking water while running. Just don't drink too much. For me, if I'm going on a longer run, I usually plan to find a water fountain about every 3 miles. If your run is shorter than that, unless its extremely hot, dehydration shouldn't be a concern.

  11. Did you get your waist size in those NS and not size down? They look HUGE!

^ What he said. In fact the rescues look more fitted than the NS.

  12. ^ I think cardio by definition is a longer duration medium effort workout. Sprinting (especially on hills) will usually push you into an anaerobic workout. That's not saying that there's no place for high intensity stuff in cardio training though. You probably get the most benefit from alternating between doing both.

Also, this will vary from person to person, but I don't tend to lose muscle as long as I do weight training at least once a week.

  13. worth it ? trying to steer away from jeans into more upscale and grown up menswear. . .

now why would you do that? :P

Those pants look a big baggy up top (might just be the size photo'ed), but I think, especially for something so simple, if you spend an upscale amount the fit should be exactly how you want it.

  14. ^ There's an analogous subculture within streetbikes, where the bikes are made up of old but functional essential parts and not much else.

A lot of people have taken this to mean bikes (usually naked/streetfighters) that have been scuffed up some and painted funny, which is kind of off from the original theme (minimal functional parts) and not really "rat bikes" (e.g. polka dot fellow above).
