  1. after reading through this thread i am still slightly confused...

I am a 32 x 34 in a regular 501XX STF. I'd say it's a perfect fit. If I would like to see the same amount of "comfort" with 1947, should I go for 33? I also wear 31 in APC NS, and it's not very slim.

and also, I am planning to get the Made in Japan 1947. Will there be a significant difference in quality or sizing?

and lastly, where can I get a pair of Levi's 501 1947 in Toronto? or perhaps in Canada online?

  2. the fit of NS, assuming you size down 1~2, the thigh is quite similar to the 501XX I guess (I personally own both 501STF and 514) However, 501 is much bigger around the ass and I feel that NS is more tapered.

514 is much straighter and there's no tapering =P

    (I wear 32 34 for 501 STF, 32 34 for 514 and its quite loose, and 31 for NS)

If you need fit pictures perhaps I can show you =P

  4. please hem. stacking makes your legs look short. who wants to look like gimli?

exacto! i hemmed 2 and a half inch off to avoid the "extreme stacking"

kinda feel like crap because i did pay for those 2.5 inch =P

  5. i recently dropped by a store called Sydney in DT Toronto to get my APC hemmed. I tried on the 21 oz denim I think. Or perhaps it could be the 18 oz but they are wayyyy wayyyy wayyyyyyyy wayyyyyyyy thicker than my APC NS. Anyway, I tried on size 31 The fit is similar to my APC NS (sized down two to 31) when worn in. They are more like fitted jeans. I personally like the fit, but a little tapering would look nice.

  6. some of you might have seen these on SF, but oh well I will show off my Levis 501XX STF anyway!!

Size 32 x 34. 5 months, 1 soak (for shrinking) 2 washes (consecutively because my friend spilled an entire bottle of 7-Up on them right after they were dried.) I wear them almost everyday during the winter time. When spring and summer came I wore them twice a week for baseball....got red dirt all over before I wash them :D

They fit pretty nicely. Definitely not something slim like APC NS (assuming you size down 2~3) It is actually quite relaxed and would look awesome with a pair of chucks. They are also tapered...

  7. interesting how people are talking about the length of the APCs. I am not that tall (5 9) and not very skinny (160lb) When I put on the NS i call it the "ultimate stacking." I personally find the 34 inseam a bit too long. In fact, just a week ago I went to a nice little place in dt Toronto (Sydney) to chop off about 2.5 inches of inseam...and got a nice chainstitching done. Hopefully I can get it back tmr and start wearing my NS again!

  8. hey...i am about 5 9 and the inseam of APC NS is just a bit long for me. The stacking is much more than I am used to and I am wondering if it's a good idea to hem the NS? My stacking is about just as much as Zesty a few posts up...it'd be nice to get some nice stacking fades but i dunno, my legs just seem much shorter than they are xD

I have managed to find a place that does chainstitching in Toronto (Sydney!) Is that necessary if i dont plan to cuff the NS?...anyone got pictures of chainstich vs regular hem?

and chainstitching is 30 bucks, while regular hem is 12 8-)...

  9. oh man i saw your post on redflagdeals i believe...

have you dealt with the pockets yet? i think the pockets look weird, can you even put a wallet in there???

wouldnt it be funky to have new back pockets, and have some cool designs on it ;) that'd be more unique than developing your own fades...

  10. and btw, the "lines" you referred to are whiskers and honeycomb i suppose? whiskers are the lines around your crotch (aka cock whiskers) and around your thighs. the honeycomb is behind your knees. sometimes the fades around the knees will give you some lines as well.

  11. yeah, like the guys said...

wear them, wear them hard if you feel like it, and by hard, i mean cycling, hiking, sleeping in your jeans. I even play baseball with my jeans. dont try to make whiskers with your fingers by folding your denim, it wont look natural. wear them till you cant stand the smell of your jeans. and of course, if you spilled stuff like soy sauce on them, dont be afraid to wash your jeans, but that's a different story

once you can't stand the smell of your jeans, wash them...and as to how to wash them, there are a billion ways you can find on this forum. I think the best way is just to experiment on your own =P...

  12. we are about the same height (not sure if we are the same sz though ;)) i think the rise is a bit high i guess, but it's not that bad. you can always wear it lower once it streches out? If you think the rise is high, try 501XX (the cheap kind) :D...

  13. yah, i just got my APC NS off of Denimbar. very nice packaging! It was very nice overall! with the discount, it was freaking nice!!!

  14. Pardon my lack of knowledge, but I'm curious to know the significance of soaking prior to the very first wear. I currently have a pair of NS (soaked them after 5 months of wear), and I'm hoping to seek a different approach when I come upon another pair.

and does that first soak leave the jeans in the same state similar to a soak after 6 months? i.e. does it leave the jeans less stiff?

soaking gets rid of a little bit of starch so that jeans dont feel as stiff. If you add in a little vinegar it will help to reduce colour loss. Okay now don't give me the "no shat that doesnt work" comment cuz i have experimented with two pairs of 501 STF :D...

Add in a bit vinegar till the water starts to smell vinegary :D

you can always wearing them and shower! that works too :D or you can throw them into the laundry machine and give it a gentle cycle (but this is not recommended)

  15. What would be a reasonable size for a 5'6 1/2, 150 lb person in A.P.C. NS?

I wear a 32 but im unsure of how far i should size down considering my wieght and height.

sizing down 2 seems to be better. and make sure you dont get 34 inseam. I am a few inches taller, and the stacking looks ridiculous (unless you wanna stack it)

  16. man, have my APC NS for about 5 days now. They stretch like CRAZY! I was wearing them kind of hard just to speed up the break-in. I was cycling and moving some furnitures. I hope it's all stretched out by now...

  17. yah, wearing a sz 31 NS and a sz 11 jordan really isnt nice xD

i thought about dunks, since it's the closest to my true passion, SNEAKERS!!

    :P

been wearing my NS for about 9 hours now. Feels great...

  18. chucks all-star eh? yah i thought so, but it's just so hard to get unique ones in canada. Perhaps I should visit taiwan this summer to pick up some decent chucks.

as for slip on's, i guess it also make my feet look huge. cant find many decent ones on ebay either. eastbay is offering quite a few selections for slip-ons, but as a canadian, i get mad taxed if i buy from the states
