  1. My washing ritual:

    1) Inside-out hot soak overnight.

    2) Wear 4-5 months before an inside-out cold soak .

    3) Reevaluate every month and either hand wash or hard wash.

    4) Hard wash on warm outside-out with some dark colored towels, pull out before spin cycle. Hang dry. Fadez.

(But, you know, it's mostly by feel.)

I suspect the ROY denim will not be ready for a hard wash until the autumn or maybe not until judgment day (contest judgment day, not the Christian judgment day).

This is my first new pair of denim in 18 months. Other than can't-pass-up vintage, this will probably be my last denim purchase for 12-18 months. I only buy one pair a year. I try to wear that pair exclusively for 6 months then rotate in the rest of the collection for 6 months, then buy a new pair. Put $10 away in a jar each paycheck for guilt-free denim purchase at the end of the year.

  2. RE: Sizing: I suspect these will come cut to accommodate a big initial shrink and stealing an inch or two at the offset won't be a problem.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, however, but I suspect massive amounts of additional shrinkage once these things start to hit hard washes. Don't take my word, though, my experience with loomstate denim is limited.

  3. I was thinking the name could be, "Phat stacks"

I would also be willing to bet that the hipster stacker miners would also have their tailor taper their jeans from the inner leg so as not to fuck with the selvage line.

Wasn't Gene "Fats" Tacks the drunk in The Magnificent Seven?

  4. Count me in as a '55 > '47 cut. I like a top block that fits my entire top block (geezer concept).

Disclaimer: This is mostly a LVC interpretation criticism. I've been told I'd be very happy with an SC '47 as the rise is longer and the thighs are larger.

  5. I know that this conversation is over, but I can't keep from adding my two cents. The anti-Cone contingency is a bit baffling to me. There are a bunch of denimheads that love denim, I mean bleed indigo, but hate Cone. What I can tell, their denim aesthetic is completely based on the last five years of Internet-denim hunting -- overlooking the 100 years of Cone-based denim dominance and discounting the company's huge contribution.

Sure, there are a lot of things happening with Japanese brands that have created some unique and beautiful garments. In many cases, however, it's comparing apples to oranges. Sadly, most of the "haters" would like both the apples and oranges if they'd pause long enough to realize that SUFU rep isn't the measure of a great collection.

(If you like Flat Head fabric, buy those not ROY.)

  6. Listen to Mr. Hill, folks. The man speaks the truth (can't rep, sorry).

My two cents: Everything changes, boys. Count yourself lucky if you're clad in some Gen-01 ROYs -- the seat seems roomy enough to house that extra Benjamin.

  7. I think my only hope is to hit up Rising Sun after I sell my house (hopefully) this fall and have a wad of cash in my pocket :)

:eek:Zissou's lost it. He is selling his house to buy jeans. Pics or it didn't happen, Cap'n ;).

  8. ^ Scotch is for drinking and jeans are for wearing.

Nice fit RNR, out of rep. When I first saw those jeans I was very impressed, but hey, I'll never spend $500 on pants. Then, the more time that passed and the more pictures that were posted, the more it has started to sound like a reasonable idea. I hope Rising Sun sell out fast, I really can't have that temptation out there.
