  1. Buzz Rickson and some other Japanese brands actually write : MADE IN (Some American City) on their tags to make it look more authentic / repro / American. It `s just an image thing. They are all made in Japan.

  2. digups, those are the slimmed down, pointy toe version of the clarks desert boots. Made by clarks. the soles have wood(or leather) between the uppers and soles. and between the soles and heels. Are these another Japan only product? They've been out since the beginning of the year I think. It's part of the "Point Taken" line from clarks. Some people don't like them because the crepe wears too quickly at the heels, revealing the leather mid sole.

  3. I have a pair of repro Lee painter pants. Very rare type with the long ''L'' on the buttons, button fly ( top button is a snap button), suspender buttons, waist cinch and a Lee Union made tag in white and red on the back pocket. These are my favorite summer jeans. I was afraid they wouldn't be made again so I bought another pair a couple weeks later and they're still sitting in my closet waiting to be worn one day. And I'm thinking I could do with a third pair too. If I can find them...

  4. After reading that DENIM NEWS article on Fullcount more carefully, I think that the Rodeo Uncles I had WERE from the Tsujita/Yamane company. But not the original jeans. I'm guessing that after they split up, the Lapine company continued to back the Rodeo brand with new creative directors to form the line up of jeans that are available today. The original Tsujita/Yamane jeans were just around for a few years in the late '80s early '90s like Cotton had mentioned. The reason I was confused was because I think I've seen other brands with the word 'Rodeo' in it, but I clearly remember the jeans I had were from the Lapine company, and the DENIM NEWS article clearly says the original Rodeo was backed by Lapine. But I could still be wrong...

  5. I bought a pair of the Lapine / Rodeo Uncle jeans about around 1999 in Osaka. I had no idea they had any connection to Tsujita and Yamane.(I'm a big Evisu and Fullcount fan) I'm still not convinced that this is the same "Rodeo though....I saw some old jeans in an old Evisu book and in the evisu shop with a Rodeo patch ,and they weren`t the same as the jeans I had. Or maybe the originals just evolved into the jeans/company that it is today. Anyhow, the originals I saw were much more impressive. The Rodeo Uncles I bought were nothing special. I don't have them anymore. Don't remember what I did with them.

  6. Another thing I like about these pants is that there is no yoke. usually. The lack of yoke and copper rivets is very appealing to me. They're like jeans, but they're not. Something different . The light oz and loose cut are great for the summer too. Japan's humidity will kill you!!

  7. There's a lot of cool stuff like this at The Rugged Museum in Tokyo. Original, deadstock, repros. And a recent Free and Easy magazine was dedicated to Navy wear/denim. I predict this will be an upcoming trend. No more 5 pocket cowboy jeans. But more military, deck pants, baker pants, painter pants, old work wear style.

With suspender buttons, zip fly, slash pockets, loose cuts, triple seam stitching, external pockets, waist cinch, no red tabs, light oz., non selvedge, non riveted, white stitches...

I'm spending a lot of time looking at these types of trousers recently. I especially like the white stitching!

  8. I've been at this Japanese denim game for over 10 years. I've bought and tried so many pairs of jeans during that time.( which I ended up throwing into the trash after a few months, because I'm a minimalist and I'm stupid...)

I'm after the perfect pair of jeans, not a collection. And in the end I realised that the perfect jeans for me were the ones that I first bought over 10 years ago at the start of this journey. Evisu.

My collection is small and the ones I wear 90% of the times are my Evisu and Yamane's. This year I'll buy 1 more Evisu and 1 more Yamane and then I'll be done for a while.

  9. yeah, that euro trash shit is showing up in EVISU THE TOKYO shop. This is the place where die hard evisu fans should buy their gear. The most authentic place, outside of Osaka of course. And now I see the shit versions popping up....Always stick to the originals.

  10. Yes I be.

All japanese are have some form of otaku in them.

I myself am not the type of person that I described at the start of this thread, but am pretty close. Not dedicated to just brand at the moment, but 3. I only allow myself to step into these 3 stores if I feel like spending. Window shopping never hurts though, so I do alot of that, and it just makes me appreciate the stuff I have even more. For some strange reason...

  11. Japanese denim otaku don't care if another person, denim head or not, is aware of the vibe being projected. It's not about what others think, but how you ( the wearer) feel.

  12. Nice little discussion going on...

When I started this topic I wasn't thinking of the Supreme, Bape crowd but more towards those of us that look like we're going out to the lake house to shoot some pheasants. The kind of look found in Lightning , Free & Easy. The "Denim Otaku." If you look into any denim otaku's closet, you're likely to find these items: Jeans, flanel shirt, chambray shirt, military jacket, down vest, work boots, thick leather belt, long wallet...

Most of the Japanese brands produce these items so why not get it all from one source. Stop testing the waters and choose a brand that is calling out to you and best represents you. To be proud of what you wear and of the company that completes your look. What Kiya said was close to what I was thinking. Mixing items from different brands of the same genre just reminds me of the clueless jocks and posers back in high school that were wearing a Nike windbreaker with Adidas track pants and Reebok shoes.

SDA , The Flathead, Samurai, Warehouse... may seem similar to some but each has its own subtle flavor and nuances. I'm not into the motor/garage vibe so I've completely stayed away from Samurai.

  13. Loyally wearing stuff from that one special company? Living in Japan and having access to so many kinds of jeans makes shopping a little overwhelming. Everything seems the same. Nothing is special. It gets to be a little too much. There are a lot of people in Japan that are hardcore for that one special company. Like at the Real Mccoys store. You'll easily mistake some customers for the shop staff. Totally decked out in RM gear only. That's dedication. It's good in that it will save you money and keep you from jumping onto the flavor fo the day. Keeps you from ending up like that edmond guy. Just totally out of control. this may seem limiting to some but each company offers a wide range of cuts and styles that should meet your needs. And some companies are affiliated with others. Like Real McCoys/ Buco, Omnigod/Spellbound, Flathead/R.J.B, Sugarcane/Buzz Rickson... Twice the product line without being disloyal! (kind of ).

Free youself from constant craving. Worked for me, may work for you, may not even care... just my 2 cents

  14. How come there's no extreme leg twisting on these no.1s? Every pair of no. 1s that I've seen have it. The pair I bought 10 years ago had it bad. Left knee wore down on the selvedge line. I don't like leg twists. That's why I only buy no. 2s. But the DD + 1 jeans make me want to give the no.1s another try.

  15. The new SC47163 denim utility trousers are going for 36,540 yen ( one wash) and 41,790 yen (hard wash) in Japan. I don't like these as much as the old ones. The old ones ( the jeans at the beginning of this thread, in one wash of course) have a lot more detailing and life to them.

  16. Went to Junky Special in Shinjuku and saw the new Mister Freedom stuff. Wow . Considered buying the pea-coat since I found some big armpit holes in my current pea, but its almost spring here ,and its 54,000 yen...:(

The shirts are real nice too. Especially the denim utility shirt. Cool snap buttons! They had the raped, acid washed versions of the jeans Cotton Duck is wearing. Ouch...

All in all, I was very impressed . Didn't buy any MF but I got a nice Sugarcane flanel outdoors shirt. Sugarcane's basic line so reasonably priced.:)

  17. Hey Cotton,

No, they are not cuffed. Mine aren't cuffed. They are cut super short!! When I took my evisu to the Osaka shop to be hemmed and painted, they gave me back like 8 inches of denim. I save all the cut off hems to make things with, and to patch holes.

Yamane wears his pants short. His golf pants, his jeans and his suit pants. I think it's to show off his shoes as evisu has a big shoe line also. Leather shoes with leather soles and golf shoes. There is a shop that just sells evisu shoes near the main evisu shop. It's my own private heaven...
