  1. some girls/guys just aren't going to like the way they look in selvage no matter what size they get or how much the jeans are tailored. like you, i think they are fine as is but if she was trying to go for a slimmer look or hoped her ass was going to give Giselle a run for her money...she may want to try something other than selvage.

there's a reason why a lot of women like 7's/True Religion et al, most women selvage denim aren't exactly cut to flatter and re-buying them in different sizes/brands gets expensive really fast.

    good luck! :)

my girlfriend's skull lindas at about 2 months. she bought them true to size and wishes she had sized down 1, but i think they look good as they are! they are the straight version, not bootcut, but she still had them tapered about an inch. we couldn't find a tailor around here that was competent enough to taper from the inseam, so she's got this big fat selvage seam now; it's actually kind of cool. the red leather patch on lindas is the coolest shit.

  2. sorry...but from the pic it looks as if you have a very long torso and short legs. stacking just further emphasizes that fact. so unless you're going for the whole stumpy-leg-look just hem the jeans to your true inseam.

finally had my 1001s hemmed. they're a 32'' inseam now.

  3. Panda san...making your jeans fit from a 34" (assuming that was the orignal length) to a 31.25" can't be fixed by hemming alone. you'll need to:

re-taper the legs to get rid of the wide-legged-effect (as mentioned by Gizmo) i doubt double-cuffing them will tidy them up or make it look better cause it's not diminishing the extra fabric that's hanging around your feet. take up the crotch so it won't make your legs look out of proportion...since the SC's have the anti-fit ass this won't really be a problem. however, your back pockets would probably end up in a really weird position in relation to where they'd normally be so perhaps re-adjusting them maybe needed. ideally at this point a good tailor will also adjust the pockets at either side of the hip to minimize any flairing. seeing as how SC rivets their pockets the latter two tasks will most likely not be possible...or at best, very taxing. that's not even discussing what the tailor is going to charge for basically making you a whole new pair of jeans.

unless you really want to go through all that i'd just write the SC's off as a loss and buy new ones, use them as a pair of i-don't-give-a-shit-jeans or just accept them.

*edit: now that i think about it you maybe better off buying jeans that are closer to a 31" inseam right off the bat cause if the Cane's are 34" by default then you'll probably run into this problem everytime...*

  4. whoa wtf? cop mentality? police academy showers? i can talk about the law without knowing it? umm...so far i have 5 years worth of criminology and biology classes i would hope i'd learn something about the law considering i'm working my ass off to put myself through college. be quite a waste of money otherwise. i have a choice between going to law school or med school and i'm choosing the latter. no aspirations to be a cop whatsoever :D.

i'm pretty sure i'm logical in my explanation of NYC knife laws: sub 4", single edge, manual operation (there's already a precedent for knives that you're able to flick out with your wrist while operating a thumbstud as completely 100% legal) and concealed...and don't wave it around in front of a cop. if someone went to NYC they could/can use that with full knowledge that they are complying with the law, no?

getting searched without probable cause and getting charged on an illegal search is a whole other issue...i understand that it negates the "concealed" factor in "not wearing the knife in open" when a cop just decides to frisk you but that doesn't make the law any less legal because some jackass decides to ignore constitutional rights. i'm kind of getting the idea you that you think i condone the action or i don't fully grasp the racial profiling behavior...i believe i said that people should get a lawyer to get rid of the bullshit charges that resulted and/or any self-respecting ranking officer in charge would have bitched out the cop that wasted tax payer's dollars on something miniscule as a 3" folder (in your friends case) and claiming that as more severe "dangerous weapon" charge...not to mention the legality of the search. i mean, i'm siding with you on this whole entire issue no? even the article you posted pretty much summed that the NYPD IA thought the whole "special knife task force" was pretty stupid, not legal and warranted further attention...so uhh...why do you say i'm beyond educational efforts?

but like you said, this is veering from the original topic...back to knives

  5. i lived in Endicott for a short period of time, that's prolly the closest i've been to NYC...traveled up to NYC a couple of times during my stay but apparently not in your part of town.

so what happened? was he caught with a knife? if so, was he caught with a manual folder? if so, was the manual folder within legal limits? if so, did the police arrest him? if so, any lawyer or court appointed counsel would call bullshit and have the charges thrown out faster than Paris Hilton can drop her panties...hell i would even think the shift sergeant or whichever senior rank in charge would be bitching wtf are they doing wasting time with a trumped up knife charge...unless of course you're black cause then it seems everything is illegal right?

i'm currently CJS/BIO major and unless NYPD is a special breed from LAPD, Dallas PD, Chicago PD and some other ones i've studied and observed i can't really imagine them being arsed going around creating more grunt work for themselves by arresting every black man with a knife. i mean, even racist officers eventually get tired of acting like an asshole 24/7...believe me, observing these guys was a constant decision between running away in fear of they might bash my head in for being a chink or finishing my assignment. if the district/county/minor courts are anything similar to the overworked/understaffed/underpaid/disillusioned ones in the respective cities i mentioned above then i find it hard to believe that the judge would waste the time, money and patience just to prosecute one more black guy carrying a pocket knife who was arrested by some gungho cop...or maybe it is like that in NY, i dunno, didn't stay long enough to get in trouble with the law to find out.

when i was staying there it was made known to me carrying sub 4" inch blade, single edge, manual folder, concealed was allowed. i carried a Strider SnG around with no problems at all...but then again i'm asian so maybe that had something to do with it. so yeah, maybe i don't know all that much about where you're from in NYC but being a 5th year CJS student i'm pretty sure i can carry a conversation in regards to the legality of police searches and/or knife laws. i'm also an avid knife and gun collector so i'm more than sure i can debate the nuances in knife steels, scale material, locking mechanisml, blade grinds, knife makers, the rising cost of titanium if you'd like as well.

Are you from New York? You sure don't know how this town works.

A black male that lives in my building was stopped-and-frisked just yesterday.

Yeah, I presume for being black. Without probable cause. Happens all the time here. Police practice.

So thats as far as your "popping in front of the police" argument goes.

Don't breed confusion making blanket statements about what you know nothing about.

  6. if it's a manual folder they can't charge you with a gravity knife. if you're using that knife for selfdefense and assuming you use it successfully i'm pretty sure the offender would be more interested in hauling ass to a hospital than trying to figure out how to sue you...assuming this is some random street mugging type deal.

if you know the offender then you must be able to show that they had the intent to harm or kill. which more or less means you'll need to be battered and bruised before you'll have a chance to convince the jury that you were indeed fighting for your life with a blade.

if you're dumb enough to pop a knife in front of the police...well, then you sure as hell deserve to get shot.

and to kentthenoob, if you want an OTF knife PM me
