  1. BBC, they aren't painful at all, but I did get some hip and thumb pain stretching them on the first day. I was able to get them buttoned from the get-go but I had to take a deep breath. My natural waist is a 31 but I size down to a 30 in almost all of my jeans. These are much skinnier than I expected though... I was looking for a slim straight, and I'd call these a skinny straight. Much skinnier than my lvc47s in 32, and people say those run a size small (I hot washed and dried them)

  2. Thanks for the comment RaWorkshop, but by hot do you mean a good look or physically warm? It's true that jeans this tight are a little warm over here in Hawaii but not enough to make me sweat. Theyve already stretched some more since that pic- I can pinch off about 2 cms of slack in the thighs. The waist is comfortable, but the top block is seriously tight.

I'm definately impressed with the cut, color and construction of these jeans. I might have to go with the rocker for my next pair, but that won't be for a while.

  3. Hi guys, just got these 1980 raws yesterday. Much tighter than I expected- they're pretty much skinny jeans on me- but I think I'm liking the look. What do you think?

These are my normal dry jean size of 30, which is sized down one from my natural waist. Too bad there are no context blacks left in this size.

They definately do stretch just fine. I guess I just feel like the coolest thing about the 50s Lee type cuts (also 1955 501s) is that slight bagginess in the thigh, so I didn't want to eliminate that by sizing down. It's funny that as much as James Dean is considered to have worn tight jeans, the same kinda look is considered borderline relaxed in here. I've had a girl call my jeans tight when I was wearing 1952 lees with like 3 inches of slack in the thigh. ;)

After I've worn this pair out (hopefully not too quickly), I'll know better whether I should size down 1 for my next pair. In any case it looks like sizing down 1 was a good idea for sillybrian.

  5. sillybrian, the jins are awesome aren't they? I just got mine last week- my first samurais. What's kinda weird though is that yours look baggier one size down than mine do at my normal size. I guess because I did a hot wash and used the dryer maybe? Maybe people soaking in general is why everyone thinks Samurais must be sized down. Sizing down also decreases the width of the hem and I wear boots a lot so in my case I'm glad I didn't size down. However Im thinking the bootcut Jins sized down 1 and worn with boots would make for an awesome silhouette.

Please excuse the quality of the pictures. These are my samurai Jins. Theyre a little short but I'm going more for a James Deanish look with them rather than something more current. I'm sagging them a few inches in the bigger pic, I think the proportions look a bit more natural that way. What do you think? The problem though is that with the rise on these if I sag them that much I dont have any belts long enough to fit on middle hole or back and still have a little slack. I love the feel of these although the 17 oz denim is a little warm for Hawaii during the day (wont stop me from wearing em).

Oh, I'm 6ft even 155 lbs and these are size 30. I had planned on sizing down and actually ordered 29s from 2nd but asked the guy to change my order after having second thoughts. I'm sure I could have fit them sized down and theyd have looked nice, but my LVC47s already cover the area of extremely slim slim straight pretty well. I think these are still slimmer at 30 than the Lee 101bs theyre based on would be at 27..

  7. gimmegimme, thanks for replying to my post earlier about the jins. They arrived today, I washed and dried them, freaked out about excessive shrinkage but then pulled on the hems and they turned out ok. Went for a walk in town while they were still wet. Here's a crappy pic to show what the fit's like (you guys know what the details look like on new samurais anyway) I'm quite satisfied!

  8. Hi guys- I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Jins in a 29 waist. I have a 32 in LVC47s and a 30 in Sugarcane 47s and theyve both stretched out to the point that i can take them off without undoing any buttons- do you think these Jins will be ok? I have a 30 in the Edwin Lee 1952 101z repro and I love them but I feel like I could have even swung a 28 in those. I went with the Jin because I like the classic Lee style but wanted to try Samurai and wanted something fitted but not painted on.
