  1. i just learned that leather is a byproduct of the meat industry- no cows are killed just for their leather. cordovan might me different, but that's horses.
Horween is the primary supplier of cordovan, and if I recall correctly the hide comes from horses that have died naturally. It does not seem to be a by-product of the horse-meat business, and horses aren't slaughtered just for their cordovan shells.
  2. I don't think I'd go with the ringking site. The OP's link at least had the rings that are made in Ireland. That's what you probably want since this is a traditional Irish ring design. I'd stick to the basic design in a white metal (silver, white gold, wouldn't bother with platinum unless it were a custom wedding ring design). From what I recall there is a museum in Galway dedicated to the Claddagh ring. Not sure if they have web presence, and they're probably expensive if they do. I wandered in one of my times there and purchased a necklace for my mother. Just found it now... Thomas Dillon's in Galway, Ireland. This is the link. http://thecladdaghringstore.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=1&Itemid=31
