I so can't wait until all browsers support more fonts... typography can be so beautiful and I guess we are all tired of seeing Arial or Verdana.

Forget my last post... Playground and Manga will close down in January 2008. F#cked up. I was hoping Bkk gets a little bit more sophisticated in terms of style.... well back to beer, bars and b!tches.

Groovbusta, besides the usual luxury stores you find in every other major city Siam Paragon is not that hot. Check Playground near BTS Thong Lor or Manga at Central World near Siam Square.

check all the other bangkok related threads for recommendations.

Protests are usually just in a certain area and won't have any effects on tourists. Check local news where it is and avoid it if you feel unsafe. There were no major casualties in all of the latest protests so I wouldn't worry at all.

It all depends how special your taste of music is. For me (I like oldschool breaks, oldschool hiphop, dnb, jungle, italo disco) most of the venues don't offer much unless they have special events.
If you just look for mainstream music genres you are fine in Bangkok as well of course. But for example the places that have electronic music change the sound and you got to check the schedule. In most other cities of that size that I visited you have clubs dedicated to a much more narrow spectrum of sound. In Bangkok you got to really get informed or you might end up with something you don't like (if you are picky about the sound).
As a newbie you might want to stay away from the upstair bars in patpong and if you go cruising in red light districts and plan to stay a couple of hours in one place pay after a couple of drinks and then later again. This helps you not getting ripped off at the end of the evening when you don't really know how much you had anyway.
Checking the red light scene in Bangkok is fun and I can def. recommend it. The whole scenery is interesting and seeing the sex tourists is like going to a zoo. Taking a skanky h0e back home is another story. If you can't hold it go to short time hotels that are pretty much everywhere.

computer-on-computer sex is strictly prohibited until you have reached a cruising altitude of 35,000 feet.
especially if a mac and a pc are getting it on... the result might be some pretty weird b@stard.

I smile a lot, if they still screw me I try the "I'm a student with all stuff to live for one year" story. If that doesn't work I tell them that I'm broke and some of the heavier items have a sentimental value for me. If that doesn't work they are b!tches and I go get some money from the atm.

I travel since years with pc & mac laptops + external harddrives + graphic tabletts. never had a problem even though my technical stuff weights usually more than my suitcase.
You might want to consider keeping the laptop bag under the seat in front of you. Having one laptop on top of another one can be problematic when you go through turbulences. Put something in between both of them if they really have to go next to eachother.
Enjoy your trip.

You got all this here in Bangkok except that nice beaches are 3-4 hours by car away (depends which direction you go). "Good nightlife" is pretty different for each person. The problem of Bangkok is that there are not as many diverese places when it comes to music. In most other western cities you have rock, jazz, hiphop, house, trance, electro, dnb... places. You won't find this sort of variety in Bangkok.

Is it the same for the US if I want to ship clothing? I just found this: http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/select/receiving/customs/fees.html
and as far as I can tell there are no brokerage fees for sending to the US. Anyone know what fees someone in the US can expect if its send via UPS?

Yeah been to all major european cities. Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Lissabon, Rome, London...
I miss some of the european culture already and will probably always go back for three months during summer. I just don't like fucking grey and cold weather.

Really interesting thread. How would I start if I wanted to design my own fragrance? Has anyone an idea of the process?

I think Soi Cowboy is the best place for some red light bar hopping. Nana is kinda annoying with all such girls and katoeys trying to pull you in. Patpong has one decent spot which is the "Funky Dojo". Of course you can't compare it with any real nightclub but it has its own distinctive flavor and crowd. One area is electro the other is hiphop/charts/rca sound.

Felix really eats a ture German meal. Those are beef roulades, mashed potatos and gravy sauce. Forgot the name of the veggies. Damn this thread is bad... makes me hungry every time I check it out.

What's quiete freaky is that naming policy of Canon. I saw the D40 in a shop and was like wow yeah! how cheap is it here... Then I did some research and found out the 40D is a whole different cam.

i dont like talking to humans on the phone either. unless they are following a script, then it's basically like talking to a robot.
Just admit that you don't like humans. I understand this point to a certain extent. You are sure you are not a script written to post here and prepare the worldwide dominance of machines over humans right?
