Is it okay to purchase a longer length jean as long as the waist fits?

I wear a size 29/30 and i rarely find a 30. I just purchased a 29/34 and am planning on hemming it in the end. Will this be ok?

Would they have it in stores to try on? I want something a bit more slim fitting if possible and not boxy. The picture seams slim enough but its always different in person.
