  1. ^ You shouldn't have a problem getting a wedge sole put on the GTs. Your cobbler will just glue it the midsole . You might be making a mistake, though. The GTs have a great, pre-wedge, vintage look.

Yeah, I do like the look. It isn't that great for daily wear as it picks up a lot of mud and gravel though. I spend a day or two every week on a jobsite, so I need function as well as form, but maybe another pair of boots would be a better idea.

  2. maybe a pair of big e levis 501... cant think of anything else i really want right now.

Not the recent Capitol E re-release crap, I would hope. I got a pair on sale for 40 bucks and they are barely worth that.

  3. I just picked up a pair of STFs in black last weekend. The levis outlet near my house had a bunch of them on sale for 30 bucks.

Is there anything special about the black ones? They look and feel exactly the same, except in color. Hopefully they will look good with some wear.

  4. fuck me, some fool must have +repped him after i negged him...

    glad you corrected things

back on topic: these lone wolf look like a good alternative to the redwing gentleman travellers. Not sure if they've been posted before

The sole on those seems out of proportion to me. It looks like the custom White's semi-dress Bill had made. Too much sole for a slimmer boot. Do they come with the usual Lone Wolf price tag?

  5. just got my pair of Red Wing 1911's :D

now i just need to find myself a belt to match, and some quality leather lotion

has anyone tried Allen Edmond's leather lotion? i'm in toronto, but where ever i go, all i see is Kiwi wax shoe polish

I have been looking for a matching belt for my 1911s for a month now and haven't found anything. I've been wearing a black belt, which looks better than brown, but I still haven't found anything that comes close to the color of the 1911s and that can be worn with jeans.

  6. Title says it all. Cotton Duck did us a favor by scanning in a catalog that shows these models. Page 51 of this thread. It's worth doing a little browsing, as this thread is such a treasure trove.

    Cheers

I remember seeing that! Thats what turned me on to the 1911s in the first place. Thanks for finding it.

  7. There is no difference between the 1909s and the 1911s except color and availability. The 1911s are available in the US now through Zappos, but overpriced. I don't know where you can get the 1909s.

Also, I would assume the same model in black would be the 1910, but I'm not sure about that.

  8. I'm looking at the 1909, 1911, 1914 (I think they're all a similar/same boot, just different colors?).

I would recommend that you try on the 875, which is available at every redwing store, and then go down a half size. The 1909/11/14s are all long and a little bit narrow. I'm not sure of the Alden sizing, but the 875 is a fairly consistent benchmark.

  9. Anyone own both Alden Indys and Redwings? I wear an 11E in Alden Indys, and I'm looking at a pair of Redwings but I'm not sure what size I'd be. I went to a local Redwing store for sizing before but the guy who measured me was an idiot and thought I needed like a 12 (I'm not sure if he even knew what he was doing).

what redwing style are you looking for? they tend to vary a little bit.

  10. They are stiff but there's definitely a following out there that wear it for casual purposes. I think partytaco has a pair that looks pretty worn in. Here is the link:

There's also a lot of Japanese sites that showcase Wesco's.

I've seen a lot in my construction worker days. They are pretty popular with concrete workers, it seems, as well as loggers (obviously). I know they are awesome boots, but much more than I would ever need.

Oh and Edmond- Where did you pick up those 8815s? I didn't know redwing made that style.

  11. Red Winger- Those 1909s are looking great, hope my 1911s wear that well. How long have you been wearing them?

Coleslawyum- Wow, the Wescos are pretty hardcore. Are they actually comfortable for casual wear? They seem like they would be pretty stiff and heavy. Redwings aren't light by any means but the must seem like slippers compared to those.

  12. Torn, I ship overseas all the time.

They WON'T cost $50, maybe $20. As long as they don't know what's in it, and there's a return slip and all that. I don't know what size you are, but there's an international flatrate box that's $9.50, if you can fit them inside.

The cheapest way WILL be USPS. Don't even bother with the other carriers.

Awesome. I will definitely try that out then. They come in a pretty standard shoe box, so they will probably fit the falt rate box. I'll check it out this afternoon.

    Thanks for the advice.

  13. Maybe this isn't the best place to ask, so feel free to direct me elsewhere, but some of you might know something about shipping shoes.

I ordered two pairs of the Redwing GTs from cultizm.com, out of Germany. What would be the most affordable way to ship back the pair that didn't fit? I called and got a couple quotes and was told taking them in to USPS would probably cost about 45-50 bucks, and every other method was twice that. Is that the best deal I can get or is there a better way? I'm in Los Angeles, if that helps.

  14. I got a couple pairs of Levis 514 cords on sale for like 10 bucks at the Levis store. I like the 514 for chords, since they are slim but not tight at all. Very nice looking, decent quality, and you can't beat the price. They had blue, red, green, yellow, beige, and black, I think.

  15. Those Lone Wolf's are great. Would really like to own em', not my price class though. Need to get myself a pair of decent boots (especially for the colder season arriving soon). Want some heavy duty work boots. Thinking about Red Wing 1908 or 1910, or maybe some cheaper work boots from the US, you know, those kind o' boots the workin' man in US is using today. Something robust and durable, but still with a pretty low price. Anyone got some ideas?

Georgia Boots makes the logger style for a little over $100, I believe.

DieHard (like the batteries, I think) sells a boot in the style of the Redwing 875 for $60 or $70 at sears. They will last for the rest of your life but they are painful to break in.

  16. If you're ordering from Cultizm, size down 1 size from your normal sneaker size. If they are still too big, or end up being too small for some reason, you can either get them stretched a tiny bit, or send them back to Cultizm (cost me $25 from the US) and they will remail new ones to you free of charge.

good to know that cultizm is ok about returns, at least. it sounds like a 9.5 might be the way to go, but it just sounds so small considering I usually wear 10.5-11.

  17. Nope, not in my case. I wear a half size down in my 875s, and an entire size and a half in my 1908s and they are still a bit roomy. One needs to be careful as each pair is handmade, and sizing can vary ever so slightly between models made for US vs. Europe vs. Japan, etc.

that's not what I want to hear. Any way to judge my size without being able to try on? I wear a 10 in the 875, so what should I get in the 1908?
