  1. I'm back now, auction will be running again, however, will be in Barcelona 29th - 4th sept but I'll check my mail where ever I get internet.

If you don't agree with the pricing, or have a different offer you'd like to propose then feel free to hit me up and we might be able to work something out.

  2. Oh yes I agree with you on that, I wasn't arguing over the authenticity of the cut, just referring to the fact that most people found the 1954 501Zs to be incredibly skinny.

I would love to have a pair of '33 or '01 501s and yeah focus on detail should always be a main priority if their aim is to replicate their past. I chose the pair that suited me the most and it happened to be the 54 501s, so the fact that they had a more modern cut than the original wasn't a big problem, although perhaps they should consider marking down those that don't follow the lines of precise replicas a tiny notch.

they didn't happen to have the 1915 when you were there, did they?

you didn't happen to try the 1915 on while you were there, did you?

Yeah I think they had them, but I'll be going back either today or Sunday and I can have another look. No, unfortunately I didn't try any on, however my brother tried on the 1901 and another one, but it wasn't the 15s.

  3. the 54's are ridiculously skinny

I never really understood this. Obviously different people will have different experiences, but to me, after the first wash they feel no tighter than a regular fit, except for the fact that they're carrot shaped which makes them slightly tapered at the bottom (and still, despite their ridiculous amount of shrinkage). I've got a picture of the cuffs, I'll try to post a full picture of them when I can to show how they fit.

  4. I just got back from Cinch a few hours ago and they said they just received the AW09 collection yesterday. What a beautiful collection, although they were missing a few pieces from the catalogue, most of it was there. Didn't buy anything this time, but definitely going back there.

  5. I received a pair of redwing GTs in blackcherry 3-4 days ago and have been wearing them almost everyday since. I'm surprised how well they've started wearing in in such a short time (all that talk about horween's superiority to featherstone was getting me a bit worried). Anyway here are some pictures with my LVC '54 501Zs.

Who knows? Anyway, how do your 501Z's fit? I would have probably bought a pair, but the really tapered leg put me off - shape wise, I tend to stay away from the slimmer silhouette of the '47's, 66's and 67's.

My 551Z's are slim enough, and the zipper doesn't really bother me.

    ..until it breaks that is!

I liked them a bit bigger because they weren't as slim and felt more like a regular cut in a 32"x34". They just finished drying this morning and they fit perfectly around my waist so must have shrunk 1-2" and the inseam lost quite a bit, that was with just a little bit over luke-warm. Obviously the bathtub became yellow from the starch, but it lost quite a bit of colour as well, nothing too noticable though. Zip buckled a bit, as expected, but it's not bad actually. But yeah as I said, although they fit me perfectly now (especailly around the waist), I wish they were a bit more looser around the legs like they were when I got them. How much will they expand usually after wear?

I originally wanted to go for the '33 501s, might get them some other time.

I've found that it's actually better to not size up with the LVC's. Unlike Sugar Cane's and some others, LVC's will only really shrink in the warp threads, meaning your only shrinkage is in the waist band and the inseam. The width of the leg and seat won't really change and any shrinkage you get in the waist soon stretches out.

I have a pair of the 54 501z, bought them around a week or so ago. I normally wear anywhere between a size 28 and 30. I bought 30s in these (the smallest size I could get) and it was fairly firm all over. I wore them in a hot bath for half hour. With a weeks worth of wear the waistband has now stretched out to much bigger than it was before soak.

Just my 2 cents about sizing and shrinkage with LVCs, I know other people are gonna have different opinions and experiences.

Thanks teardrop, for me it's a bit late now unfortunately. However, after I washed them now, it does feel like width of the legs narrowed a bit, with a lot of shrinkage in inseam and waist. I'm also usually a 28 - 30 in waist, I didn't wear them in the bathtub just soaked them in lukewarm temperature. I've got no problem with it stretching, actually I hope it does a tiny bit. Will the width ever stretch much/at all, once it gets a bit softer?

  7. Limon,

What zipper do they use on the '54 501Z ?

On the originals they used Conmar and Gripper, but on my 551Z's the zipper is small + unmarked.

(I think some of the repro Lee's have a Gripper-zipper)

Another example of Lvc cost cutting?

Dr Heech - That's interesting, I just had a look and found out my '54 501Zs have got a Talon zipper. I'm not sure why your 551Zs is unmarked. I really do hope they aren't beginning to cut their costs this way.

  8. usually I just soak them in the hottest water I can get out of the tap. no agitation, just sittin there. thats when I first get them.

I'm pretty sure you will get more shrinkage if you do a warmish hand wash.

for what you're talking about I'd say do a warm handwash. If you do hot you will lose a lot of indigo. I dont think you have to worry about your waist, if you are a 30, then the 32 will be completely fine after many washes. your problem will be that you didn't size up in the length. if you are a 30x32 your pants are going to end up being 30x29-30 and will most likely be too short. if you havent soaked them yet, i'd take them back and get a 32x34.

theres nothing you can do about the buckling zipper.

to minimize premature fading and colorloss - wash inside out. then the creases dont matter.

Thanks, I think 29-30 would be fine, I'm not true to a 32 size anyway. Will there be a shitload of colourloss the first time I wash them? I hope it won't be too noticable, I need to wash them anyway, inside out as you said, cheers for the help.

You could do what airfrog does, wear 'em raw for 6 months, warm soak, then 3 months wear, then soak..etc. At least the zip would get plenty of action and may ease it into its new shape.

They're shrink-to-fit, but the real fitting part is the gentle stretching post soak (or wash) that matters IMO.

Or you could sell them and look for a pair of 551ZXX's, which have a 3%, rather than 10% overall shrinkage.

That would have been a good option, I love these jeans though. They need some desperate shrinkage though. will the zip normally buckle a rediculous amount or is it just a tiny bit in the first wash? Well anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

  9. Yesterday I purchased a pair of LVC 1954 501s. Thing is, I'm quite new to denim so need a bit of help or advice regarding the washing part. I bought a size 32x32 waist (since it's shrink to fit), I'm normally a size 30x32, however, I mucked up with the sizing as I didn't realise at the time that the zip will buckle up after the wash. Not a major problem, but it's something I'd rather avoid. So this is what I'd like to do now when washing them first time:

    1. Avoid any pre-mature fades from the washing

    2. Minimise creases from wash

    3. Somehow avoid the zip from buckling up or at least limit it

    4. Avoid any indigo loss, I really like my jeans dark and don't want it loosing a huge heap of colour after the first wash, I know it will inevitably loose some bit of colour, but I want to make sure it's minimal

    5. Make sure it doesn't shrink more than about 1" in the waist so it becomes too tight

I'd planned on hand washing it without detergent in hot water (about 40 degrees, or whatever is the hottest coming out of the tap), is this the best thing to do for the first wash? If so, about how long do you normally soak it for? And in the process, what could I do to limit the things mentioned above? I've been having a look around and it seems like there's no one way of doing it as everyone has their own ways, but perhaps someone with the same pair or similar can share their bit of advice. Anyway, thanks in advance, appreciate just any bit of advice really.

    Best regards,

    Dean

  10. 1. Alexander McQueen - SS/07 - Shoes

Hardly ever worn, no more than 5 times since I got them. Nice condition, really soft beautiful leather, wears in really nicely after the first few days. There are some creases/ sign of wear in the front, but everything else is as almost perfect condition. Shoe box, bag and everything originally came in is included. Selling them because I haven't worn them for almost 2 years. Money will go into another pair of shoes I'm planning on getting.
