  1. I was recently in the Tokyo LVC flagship and tried on the 55501-0016 ('customised leg trembler'), and I loved the customised cut (pretty similar to the LVC customised 68606 I have basically worn out), but WHAT IS UP WITH THE DISTRESSING. ARGH.

As far as I could tell, they aren't available raw with the 'customised' cut. Anyone know whether there is in fact a raw version (like there was with the customised 68606) or have a recommendation for a similar cut jean?

  2. Anybody know of a nice vintage look sweat that is actually cut slim and with long arms?

Problem with the japanese stuff is even if the body is slim the arms are usually too short for us taller folks (read: gorilla arms).

Oh man, I second that question.

  3. there simply cannot be a holy grail of jeans. full stop. why?

because in the thread asking what feature people prized above all others, the majority of people answered 'cut' (or 'fit').

well, jeans fit every person differently, unlike a car. so for every person, there may be a holy grail. but there is not a universal holy grail jean, it's that simple.

  4. okay, in the interests of good taste the photos are gone :D

proved a point though - sizing down doesn't always work. i guess i'll go up to 31 on these, although that'll give a 21cm opening, which is wider than i'd like.. i could go with the 710 but i love the slubby texas cotton.

still curious about what cuts would help minimise hips!

"Im amazed that you even got that thing on, my hands were in pain doing up every button esp the last ones and theyre nowhere near as tight as yours"

strong fingers from rock climbing :D

  5. hey this is great, i've managed to freak sufu out with tightness! definitely kinda 'sticky fingers' shit happening there... although that's not SO bad because my ideal fit is joe dallessandro's (the model from the sticky fingers sleeve) from about '68-70

dick danger: i just grew a freddy tache, it's fucking rude. it's getting shaved after i show some mates tomorrow.

  6. okay poly, i appreciate your advice here - and everyone elses! i guess you're right, fit pics are necessary here.

    so excuse the rubbish photos!

    s0500xx size 29

one hot soak, hang dry, worn half a day.

    the waist currently measures 30.5

    not hemmed

    i'm 5' 11", 155, 29.5" at navel, 34" on hips/sag zone.

i normally wear a 30 in dior raws (31 in non-denim dior) etc, from memory i'm a 29 in edwin 47s, i wear a 31 in lvc 606s because of the low rise and my large hips.

the sams have blown all previous jeans out of the water but i just think they're too tight. i'm hoping one size up (to 30) is enough because i don't want the leg to get much wider..

quick question for poly: do you know off the top of your head what the waistband of your contest sams measures now after all that wear?

  7. hey poly800, thanks for the tip with the 0500s!

after one warm soak, air dry and half a day of wearing though, they were still much too tight. i think when i sized down one from my normal waist size, i neglected the fact that my 'normal size' of 30 is sized down one or two to begin with (i am 29 at the navel and 34 below the hips - yep, hip flare city!).

as it stands i can only wear them above my hips and suffer a major wedgie. given that the s0500 will probably shrink a bit more after another couple of washes, i think i'm out of luck on these. my only decision now is whether to go up to a 30 or a 31, because these are beautiful jeans, god they're beautiful. unfortunately, i think they're going in the supermarket soon!

  8. wow!

after all the great advice further up this thread, my new s0500xx arrived yesterday and jeeeesus this denim is crazy. so NICE. my favourite jeans ever, instantly. they're basically made out of rogue warp knots!

    so!

i sized down 1 to a 29 and they're pretty tight. after soaking, it took me half an hour of swearing and half an hour of resting to get all five buttons done up. and my fingers fucking ache... but now they're done up and all is well. but they're pretty damn tight... definitely too tight now for wearing in public. but is that similar to other peoples' experiences with the contest sams?

i want a slim fit, and i pretty much went by all the comments indicating 1-2 inches of stretching in the waist. anyone care to reassure me that these will stretch to fit right? otherwise they'll be up on the supermarket next week and some more will have to be sought.

  9. CURSES!!

Thanks for saving me from my mistake there, beatle.. arg.

Now it's back to choosing between the S710xx and the S0500xx.

I was planning on a 505-type slim cut, but I love the contest photos so much, particularly cheapmthrfkr's and poly800's... They look reasonably slim... Although the extra warmth in the 710's 19oz sounds good too.

  10. Thanks Cameland, that was really helpful. So basically my ideal jean is a 710 in the WX/Texas denim... like the original export model 710. ARRRGH! I guess cut is more important than fading to me, so I'll stick with the 710...

But I wonder if tapering a pair of 500s would do the trick??

  11. I've been admiring the Samurai contest jeans (15oz Texas denim) and I'm on the verge of buying a pair of the 710s for a little while now.

QUESTION: Will the 19oz denim in the 710s fade and wear as 'classically' as the contest jeans?

Bonus Question: Sizing (sorry to do this, I HATE sizing questions) - I would wear a 30 in (ugh) pre-washed LVC 505s. Should I go 28 or 29 in raw Sammys based on the stretching?

    CHEERS
