  1. Jesus - you really wore them to pulp....Loving it...

Thanks Beatle; my girlfriend thought you described my pair to a tee.

Gang, can't see the pics either.

I agree with everyone too, these jeans were great to wear. Did anyone else find it amusing when you explained to a friend/family/random person about the contest? For me, they were either freaked out, or thought it was awesome. What I liked best were the co-workers who initially thought it was weird, eventually saw the results and ended up explaining it (types of wear, wabi-sabi, indigo, etc) for me to people. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else had that happen.

  2. Hey everyone, 8 months today...just machine washed them for the first time last night after a hike up Mt. Pugh (will post pics of post-wash later). So that makes it two soaks (initial and month 5) and a wash. Nothing special in terms of crazy wear except for a tore up right pocket. I've reinforced the crotch with three patches now.

The past few pages have been awesome (and intimidating) to look at and definitely keeps me coming back to check out everyone's progress...

Here's a shot of my pocket at 7 months with the octopus of doom finally peeking out:

Fit pics on the mountain...not the greatest in terms of color but I guess that's what happens when it's snowing and you're in the clouds (didn't summit due to that):

And for something that has nothing to do with denim but figured I'd throw it in, here's a picture I took of a woman painted in chocolate that I saw at the Fremont Solstice Parade:

I'd like to think of her as hot chocolate.

  3. So yesterday Seattle had an unseasonably warm and sunny day and as I picked up my jeans, I noticed the light shining through the holes in my crotch. Thought it was a cool shot to see how thin the denim's getting...

And I'm at 5 months 5 days, two initial soaks, no washes:

It's probably time for me to fix my right pocket:

  4. I agree with sidneylo. It's a great shot, but you could try and shoot low to get the edges of the sidewalk to "meet" the bottom corners of the frame...perhaps that would make the church more approachable. Also, set the shutter speed a little higher to get more definition in the church.

The good thing with a DSLR is that you can try out different settings and see instant results; don't be afraid to take multiple shots. That's my opinion anyway.

Dude broke his shoulder right after I took this at the Helmville, Montana Rodeo:

I visited my friend during his Peace Corps stint in Ingot-Tolgoi, Mongolia. Here's how the kiddies got/go to school...

  6. On day 111, I went ahead and repaired a small hole in the crotch:

And the repair (I also went ahead and reinforced the seam at the top of the pic):

Fit pic today (Day 117)...nothing like fighting yourself in a park with a frying pan and rolling pin:

Needless to say, I now have some grass stains on them...

  7. #149 updating with 1-month pics. Hemmed 2 inches.

Not too much fading, but last Thursday some fucking kid tried to steal my ipod while I was on the bus. He slapped it outta my hand and it skidded near the door. Without thinking, I jumped up and grabbed the fucker as he picked it up and was trying to leave. We ended up flying out of the front door (seriously) and hit the concrete hard, with me on top restraining him. The driver broke us up and I got the ipod back (still working too), but I got some scrapes on my left leg. Still can't believe that shit happened, but whatever.

    What the concrete did:

  8. I've worn these everyday to a desk job for 5 to 6 months now. They were cold soaked with dr. bronners at approx 2 months. I had one repair in the crotch area, other than that they've held up fine. Proof you dont have to bike, skate, etc. to get reasonable wear.

I think they'll look even better after their first wash.

    Lookin' mighty fine, Braidkid.

  9. No. 149 checking in. Size 32.

I've always dreamed of a blue bathtub:

    1929619462_a732c646ee.jpg

Presoak on the left; postsoak on the right:

    1928786453_1847e726db.jpg

    Presoak measurements:

    Waist: 36.5"

    Front Rise: 11.5"

    Back Rise: 15"

    Upper Thigh: 12"

    Inseam: 39"

    Knee: 9.5"

    Leg Opening: 8.5"

Soaked them in hot water for about 2 hours, pissed on them (thanks for the tip, rnrswitch), then low heat in the dryer for about an hour, and hang dried overnight. Jizz free. Post soak measurements + a day of wear:

    Waist: 35"

    Front Rise: 10.5"

    Back Rise: 15"

    Upper Thigh: 12"

    Inseam: 36"

    Knee: 9.5"

    Leg Opening: 8.5"

I'm guessing they still have some more shrinking to go, so I hot soaked 'em and in the dryer right now. Anyone have any thoughts on whether I should get them hemmed?
