  1. So what are the differences between the new Japan-made and older China runs? All I can see is the lack of patch on the old ones and of course the place of assembly, but aren the fabric and materials used identical?

  2. After a few days of looking around, I'm coming close to a decision on new jeans. One of the top choices for me is the Eternal 811, it sounds great. Moderately slim, medium rise, great color/fading, top quality denim (if I'm wrong on any of these, do correct me) - I just have one more question about the indigo bleeding off during wear. I have a desk job and much as I like these jeans, I can't buy them if they'll be turning my desk/chair/hands/whatever blue at work. I've read the whole thread and while a lot of people have said they bleed a lot, others have they don't at all. Sooooo what's the verdict? And if so, is there some way I can make it stop without washing them five times in a row right out of the package?

  3. Part 1. oooooo big hunka manman

    Part 2. Samurai S0500XX

I wish I was 6'2" and 145lbs, this process would be so much easier:(

I like the way the samurais look, they're a little more tapered or something than the s5000vx, right? Also, someone else suggested Iron Heart 634s... they look absolutely fantastic from everything I've seen, but it gets ~110 here in the summer and I value my life. Any other suggestions? I'm sorry to badger, but I basically have one shot at this as I don't have a spare $250 sitting around if I get uncomfortable jeans.

EDIT: Tried on Levis 514 today and I really like the fit. With my waist size, a 31 fits snugly and a 32 fits a little more relaxed. Does this help at all?

  4. I'm new to high-end denim, but looking to get a nice pair of jeans that'll last a while and look good. I live out in the boonies, though, so actually getting out and trying on a nice pair is virtually impossible. That said, could I get some feedback on what kind of jeans to get? Some parameters:

5'7" and roughly 165lbs, fairly athletic build

33.5" waist (top of pelvis, where I like to wear my jeans)

    22.5" thigh

My favorite pair of jeans right now are some Edwin 503 straight leg, which brand new measure:

32.5" waist (currently stretched to 33.5 on me)

    10.5" front rise

    12.75" thigh

    8.5" leg opening

I really like the way these jeans fit, so I'm looking for something roughly along those lines (although I could probably go a bit slimmer in the thigh, as these ones are a little loose). My price range is $150-$250, and I'd prefer a Japanese brand because hey, it's Japan.

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hmmm... you raise an excellent point, for some reason I was envisioning soaking them in a bathtub that I currently lack. If it's not too much to ask, then, could I get some feedback on how to size them if I usually wear my jeans 3.5" below my navel, which for me is just about 33.5". Also, I apparently have a large enough frame for my size (5'7", 168 or so) that sizing down even one in New Standards gives me ye olde moose knuckle when I sit down. I've never bought a pair of STF jeans before, hence my slight nervousness.

  6. I'm looking at buying some samurais, can anyone confirm/deny that Bears sams are one-wash? I've read the whole page and saw some discussion of it, but nothing definite. I like the idea of one-wash as I don't really have the time/equipment to soak my own (small, small apartment), but I don't want to order true to size only to find that they'll shrink to the point of unwearability for me.

  7. Now that summer's here and I have the time to hold down a Real Live Job, it's definitely time for some new jeans. I want to get something nice that'll hold me over for a good long time, and had a couple of questions regarding fit. My favorite/most comfortable pair of jeans right now are Edwin Straight 503, so I'm looking for a fit similar to those. The only thing is that I don't know what that looks like. I've heard that a lot of Japanese brands are basically renamed Levi's or Lee's, but a check of Levi's website reveals no men's 503 jeans in either brand that I can find. Can anyone dispense me some wisdom as to what they're based on (if anything... maybe I'm wrong) and what a similar, higher-end jean would be?

DISCLAIMER: First post, apologies in advance if this is in the wrong thread/forum/whatever:( I also put it in 'small questions' but wasn't really sure...

  8. I have a quick and kinda stupid question, but I can't seem to find an answer anywhere else... Basically, I'm looking to buy a good pair of Japanese jeans, but as I'm going to be ordering from Japan I've really only got one chance at them so I want to make sure they fit. The two pairs of jeans I've worn in the past year or so are a pair of Edwin 503s (just the plain model, not the Blue Trip business) and APC New Standards. I love the Edwins, the fit is perfect and they would look GREAT if they weren't an atrocious faded wash. The APCs... well, I've had them for two months and I'm not really excited about them. I wear a 31 in the Edwins and got a 30 in APC, but they're still not that comfortable and my junk is outlined a bit too clearly for comfort, especially when I sit down. That leaves me looking for something along the same fit as the 503s, which would be really easy to do if I only knew what size they're supposed to be!

TL;DR Version: I assume the Edwin 503 jeans are based on some Levis, but what model? 501? In any case, what is a quality jean that'll have the same basic measurements? Any help would be greatly appreciated:D
