  1. That top one is great. I would adjust it a bit for perspective in PS, though. Maybe bump exposure and contrast a little. Just some advice. Nice shot regardless.

I actually dropped the contrast a little because the sky was coming out brighter than I liked, but it does read better than the unedited shot where the colours were washed out and stuff. I'm trying to keep these raw without crops and skewing etc. (which I used to do a lot, I'm trying a different way of working) so the most I do is adjust the curves and colours, but thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

  3. mike lowrey: Nice, Vietnam? I might be going there and am wondering if you have any recommendations or words of warning and such, good even if just regarding photographing things.

    wax: That top one, awesome.

  4. I think the digital medium (especially illustration and painting) can stand on its own merits, and does not need to mimic traditional media to somehow be deemed "realistic" or worthy. But I agree, I will probably at some point try to take advantage of the texture and gestural qualities Painter's brushes can produce, probably working back and forth between it and Photoshop.

  5. hey godwin, you're nigel's friend aren't you?

i'm that dude from unpopular-radio if you remember. I can't remember, but i've been seeing yr works and yr name popping up all over in random places. Nice to see you on this forum too!

Be sure to commission a special piece when you ord :)

Oh yeah I was his junior back in college haha. I'm not sure if I remember, do you mean you did shows? Are you Mark? I actually just met Catrina the other day when she was in town.

I've ordee-ded loh! in December by the way, that one up there was the second-last NS-related piece I did. This here's the last one: (detail crops; click to enlarge)

Yes legs of the dude are whack etc etc well aware of the error, I hereby admit I was lazy with reference. Might attempt to explore the theme more in traditional media when I get reacquainted with paint. It's about our culture of fear and questioning the abilities and rights of citizen soldiers in light of that, among other things.

  6. Actually, all of the shaky cam was done in post.

I still think the reasoning is wack. If it wasnt all shaky would you have complianed that it didnt look like it was shot on handycam? I highly doubt it. I doubt anyone would have noticed. The only thing that would be different is a lot less people would hate the movie.

I would if they just took it away, when there's something to compare it against, but probably not if it were originally that way, it's about achieving the illusion? Though of course if it's meant to look like handycam but ends up looking all steadicam then I'd think something's seriously out of place. Where did you read that it's postwork? Have you tried watching it on a smaller screen? Might it have to do with the huge theatre projection? EDIT: assumptions! I guess you could've watched the DVD and hated it too, then I'm sorry.

  7. Thats stupid. Why would I not like the story now that im able to watch it without throwing up all over myself? I dont know how the Shaky cam adds a damn thing to it. Have you ever watched any sort of movie and said 'you know what would make this movie AWESOME!?!? Shake the shit out of the camera! Hell yeah son!'

    No.

Ive already seen the movie, I like it, Its just impossible for me to sit through a second time. I hardly made it through the first time.

Uhh because it then wouldn't look like it was shot on a handycam? Most of it really was shot that way, so it's not really some kind of "post-production decision". Not hating on you yeah, just saying, and I didn't know you had already seen it so my bad.

  8. Godwin that's nice,

    bit Banksy-esque though.

    Got more?

Interesting, definitely wasn't referencing him, but I do like his works. And not in the same style, no. Not yet at least. But I've got other works here though (neglected updating it for about 4 months now but there's little much else I did do in that time), it's mostly digital illustration, I do some work for game mods, plus other personal stuff I did with my time in the armed forces.

  9. ^i'm guessing...ska band? listen to any specials?

Yeah, local ska/funk/punk band called Cesspit. I didn't even know them; honestly thought they'd be some grindcore shit. I'm not into ska but I enjoyed their set anyway. This was taken just yesterday at Straits Records (you're from Singapore right?)

I'm trying to not crop my pictures in post-process which I am fond of doing so yeah, if the compositions are bad that's that.

  10. It wouldn't be quite the same film if it wasn't shot shaky, I thought it was a nice touch to present everything from a camcorder perspective (I only just watched this myself, on DVD, well, on the computer rather), the lack of a musical score also adds a lot to this aesthetic. That and the idea of the old tape footage being erased was fairly interesting . If you really are turned off by it, then I reckon you probably wouldn't enjoy the story. My only complaint is that the love/friendship story thing becomes detached from any semblance of realism and really lame as soon as the monstarr appears, it doesn't feel like the nerd crowd could appreciate the sentimental side of the story, or vice versa, because the movie seems to be trying to please both camps and you get this weird thing that's somewhere in the awkward middle.

sybaritical: Check out the right half of the shot, you will see it this ghost of a thing fly diagonally into the water, it's barely visible on DVD though.
