  1. Hmmm its not so much being too concerned about the rental and utilities. I think its about having a sophisticated enough clientele here who are willing to pay for marginally more expensive or sometimes even cheaper prices for our stuff and actually doing shopping here even when they have options to travel to get margianlly less expensive stuff that can be found here.

If the stuff ain't good or if you can't find it here. fair enough. keep your money for that spree in HK, Tokyo, NYC watever.

    But...

GENERALLY, i feel that the 'sophisticated' clientele just seem to not want to support local stores, labels etc simply because its not fashionable to do so.

Hey i'm not a 'partyman' (read PAP) but i think we should all do our best to support the economy. hahaha.

Note. the Fashion/Retail capitals see greater local support of their homegrown stores/products.

Thats what i have also observed when i was in Tokyo.

There are many independant stores there cos they have many LOCAL supporters who build relationship with the stores and thus they are influential in the stores development as it should be.

afterall the store IS about the customers.

That's what I'm talking about. My sentiments exactly, damienos.

  2. I can understand Tokyo, London, NY as fashion capitals and even shopping destinations not paradise because haute couture are really freaking expensive there but HK?

Since when is HK a fashion capital? Shopping paradise regionally because its cheaper there, a bit compared to Japan, Korea but not to China and even South East Asia. The range for branded stuff is bigger though.

Yes, HK isn't a fashion capital of course. I would consider it a shopping capital though, at least regionally.

  3. well i dont know about other branded stuff in sg. but i was happy with my skull and sugarcane purchase from queen's. the prices are are reasonable and the staff were very friendly. leslie, the owner, was very helpful too.

although it doesnt have the killer selections of take5 in hk.. but still better than some countries where you cant find a pair of those japanese jeans.

i think some of the sneaker prices are ok too. not that far from US prices.

when i was in KL few month ago, i find the prices very expensive. good thing there was a sale going on that time, otherwise, i wouldnt even consider buying the LVCs.

    Word.

I've never really expected much out of Singapore. And frankly, the fact that we can get hooked up with denim the likes of Skull, Sugarcane, Imperial, APC, Nudies, Julian Red, April 77s, Acme, DH, etc, etc... speaks alot on how far we've come. Then we've got stores like Surrender/Ambush, Leftfoot, Limited Edt, etc. really representing the scene. And what about Ann Siang, Club St, Haji Lane, etc? Plus the indies like Actually and Lawn keeping it real...

Think 5 to 10 years back and you'd be hard-pressed to come up with anything beyond Flash & Splash and Club21.

We're typically a bunch of much too hard to please people, really. If we want things to continue growing, we all gotta stop bitching and start supporting.

  4. If we all took a moment to step back and look at the big picture, you'd realise that it's really quite dumb to compare Singapore's retail/shopping scene with that of Tokyo, HK, London, New York, etc.

Fact is, if you really insist on comparing our little island with recognised fashion/shopping capitals of the world, it's no wonder that we have a long way to go.

But no one can deny that we've been improving, especially in the past 2 years or so.

  5. Any idea where to get Hare shoes in this lil island ?

You could try the frontallabs forum. (snigger snigger) But no point paying inflated hypebeast reseller rates for Hare, I say.

With regard to Swear shoes, doesn't Tangs stock some?

  6. True that, maybe they just went all out to commercialize or something; lower all round quality and whack products are definite drawbacks from commercializing and expanding...

But I never had hope that Bread and Butter would sell good stuff though, tangs always seems to cater more to the luxury cats: true religion, fred perry, ed hardy etc.

Yeah. And don't forget G-Star. No offence to G-Star fans, but personally, I'm not feeling them. Never did.

But good point on Tangs targeting a different consumer segment though. You're probably right. Departmental stores really don't give a hoot about denimhead fashion victims like us.

  7. ^its just diffrent from the fit ive been wearing

    DSC00939.jpg

And yes the couch is broken dont ask;)

New couch is suppose to come this week.

If that's the fit you prefer, you shoulda gotten F350s instead of the F310.

  8. It's really difficult comparing APC sizing with Flatheads. With APCs, you probably have to size down 2 to 3 sizes.

I wear 26 new standards, and i got F350s (new frontier series, same cut as 5003s I think) in size 28.

My true size is about 29. You can expect the Flatheads to shrink at least 1" at the waist on first wash/soak. Lengthwise, they shrink almost 2.5" each leg, so best leave any length alteration till after first wash/soak.

My F350s were hard to button up after first wash, but after about 3 wears, they fit perfect. That means stretching them out a little shouldn't be too difficult.

  9. Awesome post! Thanks!

On a side note, at Hinoya, they're willing to takyubin or deliver your stuff to your hotel for 500yen. That way you don't have to wait around for hemming or if you're too lazy to carry your stuff around.

I managed to get my Flat Heads chain-stitch hemmed at Americaya within 15 mins... 800yen damage.

  10. I believe the main Evisu store is in the daikanyama/nakameguro area. Never bothered to step inside myself though...

Also, I think there's an Americaya right by Shinjuku station. It's on the ground floor of the Shinjuku Prince Hotel building, right next to Kabukicho.

Not sure if that's an Americaya actually. Sounds like Junky Store to me (refer to atom's threadstarting post above)... Junky's right where you described it... ground floor of Shinjuku Prince Hotel, next to Kabukicho. It's actually along this row of shops called American Blvd. The shop stocks SDAs, Skulls, Sugarcanes and Warehouse denim.

  11. I heard of another shop in town that carries AA and has a bigger variety, but the name and location escapes me, sorry. Someone else will probably chip in with the right answer.

I don't find AA shirts particularly slim but it depends on your build and preference. On me (I'm 1.65m), the sleeves are fine but the lengths are just a tad long. I still like them though--soft and good for local weather.

Quintessential at the Mandarin might have some AA stuff. But I doubt it's the store you have in mind - the variety there is smaller than at Urban Junkie.

AA tees are reasonably long. But it boils down to preference - I like my tees long and slim, so never had problems with AA.

  12. Hi, I'm kinda new here.

Wanna find out where can I get April 77 in Singapore?

    Besides that shop in Heeren.

Does any shop at Haji lane carry April 77?

Any other brands of skinnies to introduce besides cheap mondays?

Just can't get enough of Aprils...

I think A77's are only available at QC (in Heeren) here. Not sure if they can be found anywhere else.

You could check out Julian Reds at KnowItNothing (Haji) or Nudie Slims at Nordic (Ang Siang) too... though those aren't exactly skinnies.

  13. Here's the verdict.

I creamed my pants when I saw their selection. They had the Syndicates crocskins going for US 80+ brand new, which is a good deal. Also had the purple co.jps and a bunch of other co.jps. I also saw the patent wingtip eras. Dude even promised to put a hold on a pair of Jason Jessees.

So it's pretty nice overall. I know where to spend my next paycheck!

Also, I went to the Agnes B store in Lido today. They're sorta selling old stuff but it's 70% off for homme apparel and 50% for the Voyage (bags and goods) line. Had a couple of light blazers that would suit the tropical climate. One that caught my eye was a cool seersucker 2-button, but it was a tad big.

Where'd you see the wingtips? I've been fiending for those for yonks.

  14. dear singaporean sufu-ers.

being the helpful bunch that you are [note asskissing] and the fact that you all seem to be such a well informed and dressed bunch [even more asskissing], i was wondering if i could get some information off you people.

    it's a total emergency!

i own a pair of imperial kings in sz 32. right now, they're the perfect fit for me.

    my question is...

does anyone here know about any denim which meets the following requirements

    1) similar cut to the imperial kings [i have them in raw indigo]

    2) is available in singapore. RIGHT NOW.

if so, i'd much appreciate if you could furnish

    i) brand name + model

ii) which size you reckon i should cop them in

    iii) the price

    THANKS GUYS!

You could give Nudies a go. They're available at NordicStyle along Club Street. I think the Regular Ralf Dry Selvedge is pretty similar to the Kings. With sizing, it's best to give the actual denim a try. I think the RRDS should set you back about S$350 or so. (I'm not sure about the exact pricing.)

  15. u recommend wrong man.

cures and 77s are skinny. he's lookin for slim.

    skulls 5010s

    nudie slim jims

    dior 19s

    new standards

theres probably a couple more. but my brain is donezo right now

OK, my bad. plongin's right –*those were more skinny-tight.

  16. So it does expand? I'll probably just have to give it a try myself to see how it fits. I can't tahan jeans that stick to my skin, especially in this humid climate

Most, if not all, raw denim will stretch out a little. So a lil discomfort at first will pay off later when they fit nice and natural.

I don't think Imperials stretch out as much as APCs do. So if you're sizing down, 1 or 2 sizes would do. If not, stick to true size like damienos suggests - after all, the Imperials are already cut pretty snug.

  17. If you guys fit into 36" FP polos, what size are you guys in Topman polos? I'm kinda skinny and a Topman polo in XS is always too tight, I go with S.

I'm also looking for slimfitting polos. I saw some polos at Sidewalk 10 today, but I didn't like the little bees stitched onto it.

I'm with you on Topman Polos, S for me too. XS is too tight - especially after washing. In fact, I've given up on Topman t-shirts/polos - their cheap-ass quality cotton shrinks and loses shape like anything. Not to mention how everyone else will probably be wearing them too...

Some of their shirts are alright though.

  18. fred perry store has 36(s) smallest. XS is only for fred perry collabo like cdg x fp etc.

Not true. It depends on which season's collection you're referring to. I've got some regular-release FP polos that are tagged XS too.

But the XS's in the current regular-release collection at the Laurel store are tagged 36", yes.

Same difference, really - 36" is actually XS, dude. Size S is 38" instead.

  19. like polo tees and long sleeves. i tried on lacoste and fred perry's small. they looked like medium on me. only topman stuff fits me.

I'm skinny shit and FP in XS (or 36") fits me just about nice. With Lacostes, I have to alter them if I want them to fit right. With shirts, you can't go wrong with Topman and Zara sizing.
