  1. went to Yu-u (quite hard to find) but they kick us out cuz we dont have booking :(

yeah i've still not had a chance to go here either. does the 2 month rule only apply for dinner, or in general (i.e. for lunch too... i can't imagine booking lunch 2 months in advance. god)

way too busy these days with uni, with my 2 upcoming major exams being in the same day. damn RMIT.

    edit:

question -- so what area are you guys from? do you guys live in the suburbs, or even anyone in the cbd? just curious, since the city's like 40 mins away by train from where i am

  2. no offense but plims, esp $10 plims, are really boring to talk about. i like the YMC plims design cos of the toe shape, which isn't very converse-ish (imo a good thing)

has anyone seen any matboy shoes in stores recently? i ask because purestcut surprisingly now has the white ones (most sizes gone tho)

wasn't expecting them to be in the 300 zone. IMO they don't seem worth it; on closeup pics the construction looks a bit crappy (look at the stitching)

  3. i've been soooo close to copping those chronicles of never shoes. all the pics i've seen look great, but i haven't handled them in person yet. can anyone comment further? the price seem alright, sitting in the 200+ mark...

hmm...what season are your matboy shoes? did you have to contact any stockists like purestcut.com to cop them?

  4. Coming to melbourne for 3 nights next week,

already know about marais and assin, they are top of my list.

where else do you suggest? also any good vintage or op shops

i guess they're both overpriced but they do have sales from time to time i guess. BUT even then you're probably talking about say, $1500 down to ~$650-800 (outerwear) at best, so whatever...

the SA at marais was probably the nicest SA i've ever met though, strangely enough.

  5. common projects...

i think love thy neighbour is quite good.

    stay away from gram/swear

having owned both grams and love thy neighbours, grams have far better construction IMO, and will last longer b/c the soles are thicker by a long shot, and the upper material is generally more stiff, making them much more stable

but the styling of love thy neighbours are waaaay better. just don't wear 'em everyday and you'll be fine, i'd say... i have the jokers (i.e. pointy thin leather lows) and the sole ripped recently, after wearing them through moderately hard through the last year. i may get them re-soled soon but the upper part is quite soft, so the effort may be in vain. sigh...

  6. does anyone know of a good cobbler in the CBD? my love thy neighbour soles separated from the upper while running the other day - they were pretty beat up before but now they're fucked. anyone have any experience putting new soles in?

home: you re-soled your material boys right? how much did it set you back, and where did you get it done?

    thanks

  7. i have mixed thoughts towards the staff at FAT, sometimes extremely enthusiastic about making convo, sometimes actually quite helpful/nice, other times negligent/pretentious. either way i rarely require assistance at stores anyway so it doesn't bother me... unless they outright lie to you of course (e.g. sizes available)

  8. What does Bobbys Cuts usually stock? Anything exciting?
they stock mostly hem and haw stuffs, shirts, many jeans etc

    lovethyneighbour footwear

    some bassike stuffs

    cheap monday i think aswell

also gram footwear i think, not completely sure though since i haven't been in a fair while. same with who am eye.

  9. there's a really decent Pho on russel st, between lt. bourke and lonsdale i think. i forgot the name, mi gong or something? it has that 'grubby' look most crappy places have, but the food more than makes up for it! plus, under 10 bucks

as far as japanese goes i wouldn't recommend tomodachi in melbourne central, it's not the worst, but IMO not worth the price they charge. i prefer chocolate buddha at fed square as an alternative if you're considering the same price range (20+ish pp). wagamama in QV i believe sucks as well, but meshiya is pretty good especially for its pricing.

anyone know of good places for thai food? i only know spicy noodle cafe on latrobe st near melb central, which i heard is one of the better ones but stlll any others?

  10. Are the edwins here the same as elsewhere? some leather tags look exact but they look somewhat dodgy.. was an actual Edwin store too

hi, my impression when visiting that store last year is that it's legit but they sell a completely different Edwin line to any other store outside Malaysia... i found some of their cuts to be pretty suss, like tapered waists and really high front rises. even the other non-denim clothing there didn't look up to par compared to the japanese Edwin line. i'm heading over there soon, hopefully it won't be as disappointing this time.

how's the stock at topman? was it old season stock or did it pretty much resemble the online store now (since i was gonna check out the black coated skinnies)

  11. i'd get the man-perm

    easier to manage.

actually if you're used to treating straight hair you'll have to work a bit harder to maintain a perm since it's a lot easier to damage... i tried it last year and i can definitely say it's harder to manage from my experience, since i have naturally straight hair.

not sure if anyone's interested but a new hair care site just opened for us aussies, w/ free shipping for orders over $30...
