  1. Hey, I am looking for some museums to visit this weekend, and I was wondering if I could get some opinions on your favorite museums here in LA. I am into a broad spectrum of things, from fashion, history, science, to design. Any input would be much appreciated!

  2. I know WW Chan has a shop there.

I just got back from a trip to their Hong Kong shop for my first suit from them.

I can't report on the final outcome quite yet, but I will say that the experience left me feeling as though I was in very good hands.

They didn't rush me, they listened to my ideas, and they steered me in the right direction when I got off track with crazy ideas.

I hear they cost more than most but it's a fair price for the quality they offer.

    Here's their Shanghai address:

    MAOMINNG LU, SHANGHAI

129-A02 MAOMING NAN LU, BY HUAI HAI ZHONG LU

    200020, CHINA

    PHONE: (86-21) 5404 1469

    FAX: (86-21) 5404 0539

  3. U2 - Zoo TV Tour @ Foxboro Stadium:

The tix were given to me, so I thought why not?

Well, they were literally the worst seats in the whole stadium. Last row.

I don't think I ever heard Bono, just meatheads singing along.

There was a 3 second delay from the video screen to when the sound actually reached me.

    Terrible.

Similarly, Kings of Leon... 3 weeks ago @ The Forum in L.A. Big shows suck. I've seen 'em a few times and enjoyed their shows. They just have too many douchebags as their fan base now... And some of those new songs are so bad it hurts my soul.

    Lastly,

Mazzy Star @ The Paradise... Maybe around 1996?

No lights, note for note off the album, and not one word spoken to the audence. 45 mins and it was done. Totally soulless.

  4. I gotta say, Hong Kong is pretty fucking cool.

    Killer public transportation.

    Amazing food.

I haven't found shit for clothing, besides the suit I'm having made here, but that doesn't really bother me.

All the high end stuff is priced way beyond US prices, with no sales going on, and the rest is kinda off.

I did the Bourdain Tour today and hit Bo Innovation for lunch (chef's tasting menu) and Under Bridge Spicy Crab. My god, was that crab extravaganza an experience.

    I wish I wasn't leaving Sunday.

  5. i've gone to the ramen museum quite a few times

the only problem is that it's in shinyokohama and may be a little out of the way for some tourists.

i recommend that you take an express (or super-express) train from shibuya to yokohama (toyoko line)

another tip: if you are gonna use the metro / tokyu-sen / JR a lot

id suggest that you get a PASMO or SUICA card.

it's a prepaid metro / train card that can be used on all public transportations

in tokyo. don't be a bitch and wait in line to buy train tix.

I went to the Ramen Museum today... It was kind of interesting.

    Cool gift shop.

As for the ramen, I had much better in Tokyo. Ichiran and Jiro blow it away.

Made for an interesting trip on a rainy day.

  6. Anyone ever been to the Evisu store in Daikanyama? Went there last week and I was impressed with the staff, painting on the Evisu logo onto the jeans. I saw a stack of freshly-made jeans, really liked the whole vibe of the store.

Did you tell 'em to quit painting the logo down the whole damn pantleg, cuz that shit looks turbo-lame?

  7. Walked by Opening Ceremony today.

It certainly is massive. Obviously the interior will tell the true story, but by the exterior it looked about as cutting edge as Forever 21.

I got the same impression yesterday.

Did you notice the teepee on the second floor.

    How's your luck been otherwise?

I stopped even trying stuff on because jackets only go to my elbows here.

I hit the fish market this morning and had some epic sushi at Sushi at Sushi Bun. I highly recommend it if you haven't been.

Hama Riuku Teien park was pretty amazing as well.

Tapas Molecular Bar at he Mandarin is on tap for tomorrow. I can't wait.

Oh, and Herp... I made it to Mos tonight and had your Yogurt Cereal dessert.

    Nice call!

  8. It was the Ramen Jiro in Shinjuku, and it was fucking amazing. I'll go back for sure before I leave Tokyo.

I'll be sure to hit Mos too, and save room for the yogurt/cereal thing.

I know some jackass will yell at me and tell me to search old threads and shit first, but feel free to give me a couple places I can't leave without trying.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. On my way to Ramen Jiro today I walked by Freshness Burger and Mos... Which of the two should I hit up first? I also remember seeing another place called Lotteria or something, but it looked so-so.

Oh and I also passed by a 30 foot Chloe Sevigny at the new Opening Ceremony.

  10. Some bitch told me that Opening Ceremony TYO was gonna be an eight-floor megastore but it turns out that it's just one big store in Shibuya Seibu Movida. It's got eight different SECTIONS... Same concept as Via Bus shibuya.

Who the hell is really gonna buy odin-esque cool-guy jawns e.g. nom de guerre, band of outsiders in Tokyo?

there's a crazy influx of super lux flagships like dries and raf

but who is really buying all this shit? i've never seen a single person in those stores... tourists from eastern asia?

since those "biyougakkou" students realized that blowing their baito paychecks on dior and balenciaga was totally retarded, jawn retailers like lift are going bankrupt apparently...

A lot of guys going back to Shibu-kaji and old school streetwear style

i really hate those dus wearing "college" tees over button downs. hella gaye.

I've read about it being an 8 floor mega-store too. Several places have reported this. What are they gonna have, a whole floor of Maui and Sons?

I'll try to check it out myself.

  11. My favorite stores,

Joyce --> you can find most of the luxury designer brands here ( a must to visit)

I.T --> a mix of European and Japanese brands.

Land Crawford --> a mix of European and Japanese brands.

Medium Rara --> Small selected shop, Japanese brand like Viridi Anne, Siva, Lad Musician...etc

If you have time, you may check out the Joyce Warehouse and Lane Crawford Warehouse.

How hard is the Joyce Warehouse to get to from Kowloon?

I'll be in HK Sept 2-6

  12. I'll be in Tokyo Aug 26- Sept 2. If anyone knows anything cool going on specific to those dates (music, festivals, etc), please let me know.

Staying at the Conrad, if anyone has any good suggestions for great eats/must sees around there.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Sorry no jawnz for you.

If you want "domestic" stuff, you are out of luck.

You might be able to buy some imported stuff but stores never

order anything larger than size 50 anyway. I assume you'd be like

    a 52 or 54.

You might have some luck with tenderloin, cootie, cdg, and stuff.

Also, streetwear ala phenemenon, nitraid, and revolver.

what kinda jawns are you into

if you want goth ninja, i can't help you

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll just look, and save my money to buy fucked-up shit when I get to Hong Kong.

  14. off to maine...

    lulz

    any jawns there?

    What part of Maine?

Hit Rogues Gallery in the Old Port section of Portland. Good peeps there. Often good deals and stuff you don't see anywhere else. It's worth it just to check out the shop. They carry some non-Rogues stuff too.

Eat a lobster roll from Red's Eats in Wiscassett. It's worth the wait. Over a whole lobster on each roll for $16.

Some other good random leather shops and places to get handmade shoes (Quoddy type stuff).

Pick up some Mom Jeans at L.A.Bean

  15. How is the Barney's L.A. warehouse sale?

Pretty much the same. Though now you pay $12 for parking and they have 2 makeshift "dressing rooms".

I got there at 8 so I was able to get some decent Dior stuff, but that was mostly gone within the first 15 mins. It seemed like there was more women's stuff than usual, but the guys was about the same.

One thing I did notice was that at the last sale the prices were exactly the same as they had been at the end of the clothes' run at the store. Today it seemed like they had taken another round of discounts off of the prices.

  16. I have totally flat feet and have never been able to wear chucks, but a few years ago I discovered PF Flyers, which I can wear all day.

Everyone thinks they're chucks, except old dudes who get all excited to see PF Flyers for the first time in 40 years.

  17. Just hit the Barney's Warehouse Sale in Santa Monica. It was not as big of a zoo as years past and there were some finds, but it was pretty typical of recent years. The only real drag was that most of the stuff was the same stuff that had been hanging on the racks in the Bev Hills location and the co-op, at the same exact prices I've seen for the last few months. I expected them to be lowered once they hit the Warehouse racks.

Loads of shitty jeans, a million charcoal suits, and some exceptionally ugly boots and shoes, but if you dig around you'll find some good stuff.

I found some good Nice Collective, Rag & Bone, and Neil Barrett.

The 3 Dior items on the racks were gone within 20 mins.
