  1. Unfortunately I believe 300% or 400% markups are common in the fashion industry that's why they still make money in the sales season. But retailers have a lot of costs too, that's why you see shops closing all the time.

I don't know if it makes sense for an artisan or a very small business to use the same distribution strategy as larger players, now you can reach costumers directly through the Internet which was impossible some decades ago.

Selling to retail will increase the pressure to increase volume which leads to employ people which leads to increase fixed costs. Which ultimately leads to subcontract production to where wages are lower...

The real unfortunate thing is that you believe retailers have 300-400% margins. If people were making that kinda money selling jeans, everybody would be doing it.

  2. whoaaaa

I've just been emailing with Brandon - this is awesome awesome news:

N&F will be dropping a >21oz, superheavy, rigid black jean in Aug '10, likely available in BOTH a black warp/white weft and an all-black version. Limited ed'n, price point >$300.

    I think you mean 26oz...

  3. Always thought they closed down cus of lack of business.

Not to worry, I went over there and returned them and got all my money back, no problems. The guy never admitted that they were fake though, he said that if I wanted I can see his invoice from Dior. Told him I was in a hurry and got my refund. A huge lesson learned. Thanks for all the input as well.

glad you got your money back.

  4. Thanks for the input, I bought them at this store in Yorkville called In The Lane, the guy who runs it, used to run Noir as well. Can anyone else confirm that they are fake before I give the guy an earful? Cant believe a high end store would have the audacity to sell fakes.

Don't you ever wonder why Noir shut down?!? They are definitely fake man, a friend of mine bought a pair from the same place a while back, they are fake as hell.

  5. I just bought another pair of diors from a local boutique here in Toronto , I liked the fit and the wash but I was wondering if anyone would be able to shed some light on them for me.

If you bought them where I think you did, you just bought yourself some 250 dollar fakes.

  6. Seriously, if you guys can do Weird Guys in Green Denim in a size 30 I'll be so down. Saw them in store downtown today and was immediately drawn to the green.

Apparently, the green is dyed after the thread was dyed indigo, so as they fade, the jeans actually get darker. Not sure how much credibility this holds, as I was told by one of the staff at Showroom in TO.

Yeah, they are a green jean with an indigo cast. So they should fade blue, I'm tempted to jump on those, but I've got a pile of jeans that haven't even been worn yet..

  7. So I was over at Showroom in Toronto yesterday talking to some of the guys who work there. The owner of N&F frequently visits to let them know about new products etc. I did some heavy drinking last night, so I'll post what I remember.

24 ounce denim is coming soon, a long with some new cuts. They're also doing a 100% cashmere jean that will retail around $2000! They are also diversifying to other clothing products such as blazers, shirts, and belts. The blazers look pretty nice. The guy is definitely a true denim head, with a passion for coming out with new and innovative products.

The cashmere denim will be selvage too! Retail will be 1700 USD and a Barneys exclusive. The blazers are quite fitted, and the pants are based on the weird guy fit. They will have tanner belts coming out either this season or spring, 7mm thick! Also python skin belts which are already available and retail for like 155 CDN. 24oz is due out in the Spring I believe, the denim is produced in the same factory as Samurai's.
