  1. I ask this question because even with all the premium denim I've had over the years (APC, Acne, Nudie, Corpus, Earnest Sewn) I still find myself buying 501s every couple of years. Not repro LVC 501s, just regular, Macys type 501s. Sized down one I think they have a great fit that will never go out of style, flatters most body types, and now they have some decent washes since I for one don't always want to wear raw denim, sometimes I need something other than dark blue that I can beat the crap out off.

I know there is a love hate relationship with shrink to fits, but it seems like most people have forgotten about the original. If you're going for a very minimalist look with emphasis on fit more than flashy style, 501s are still a great choice.

Anyone else with me on this?

  2. Get the 5EP without a doubt. I'm currently mourning over the fact that I can't afford those beautiful things and that they probably won't be avalieble by the time I get the money :'(

*just get it hemmed. no reason to let inseem length bother you unless it's too short*

I think that is what I'm going to do. With the 20% coupon they aren't that pricey at all, and if they are sold out by next Friday I'll take the KMWs as choce 2

  3. Yeah those are pretty lame man. no offence, but if you gave those to me i would be bummed out.

No offense taken! I think I was putting too much emphasis on the fact that they're driving shoes designed by porche (he's a porche fan)

The dunk route does seem to be a way better idea now.

  4. in before lock

  5. gimmegimme said it all.

Did you make this thread because you are special?

If he said it all, why did you have to type anything?

Did you respond to this thread because you're a dumb asshole?

  6. 1: "I was just being cheeky...everyone gets a bit neurotic around here...but that's what these threads are here for...you end up learning the most in the strangest places sometimes."

Sorry I didn't add to a thread and decided to start my own, I actually thought I might learn something this way

2: No one held a fucking gun to your head and forced you to respond.

PS: Thanks for offering an actual opion on why you wouldn't buy any of those jeans and for offerring a valid alternative. Your critique was well informed and much obliged.

  7. Ive heard/seen great things about KMW's cuts and construction, but I've heard they are really stubborn to fade, which can be a good thing or bad thing depending on your opinion.

If it were my choice, I'd go for the 5ep or Imperial. If you dont like Imperial's pocket stitching, you can always take it off.

Actually to me this would be a plus. Frankly while I appreciate the personalization the comes from having a pair of raw jeans I think there is more to denim than OMG SICCKKK FADEZ and that a well cut solid color pair of jeans will always look good.

  8. Then why did you make a new thread ?

    Anyways, go with the KMW...

I made the new thread because:

1: Most of the choices in the this or that thread are just that, this or that. I had a few more options to deal with

2: I wanted as many replies as possible.

Ok, 1 vote for KMW, one for 5ep.

  9. Ah yes, it says the inseam is 34 but a couple of guys on styleforum were saying on their pairs it measures out to a 36. I know it's at least a 34 so it will be long enough, but since I'm having to buy without trying them on I want to be really sure you know?

Hopefully the denimbar won't sell out before I get paid this week!

  10. I'm looking to pick up a gift for my best friend and roomate. He's a *huge* car fan, loves racing, racing games, going to F1, etc. He's also not the most fashionable of blokes and only has a couple of pairs of shoes.

I was thinking of picking him up a pair of these:

    http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/30939446/c/114767.html

It's the Porsche design collection for adidas. They aren't too flashy so they shouldn't scare him off, they look comfortable, and they should appeal to his racing side.

Does anyone own a pair of these so I'll know how the fare in real life? Any suggestions on other pairs in the same vein? Thanks in advance!

  11. I know that there have been tons of threads in the past and there is the "this or that" thread about this but I need some help deciding on my next pair of jeans because quite frankly they are going to be the most special pair of jeans I've ever purchased.

Earlier this year I joined the US Army and went infantry. Before I left I figured that in the army I was going to bulk up and I couldn't wear some of my more fashionable clothes anymore so I got ride of them via friends or goodwill and off I went down to Ft Benning. All my jeans, gone. APC, Earnest Sewn, Cheap Monday, HM, Acne, Levis, all gone!

I'll spare you guys the story but I ended up getting pretty badly hurt in basic training at the end and was medically discharged. I came back home to no clothes. Well, that's not quite true. My roomate gave me back the clothes I had left for him and I got my favorite jacket back from a friend, but no jeans.

So, it's time to start over and buy my first pair of jeans since I've come home.

First, my stats. I'm 6'2, 155-130. My true waist right now is about 30.5-31 inches. I have a 34 inch inseam, skinny legs. I wore a 28 in cures, a 31 in Fultons, 30 in Acne Mics, 30 in Levis.

I'm done with the ultra skinny look. Right now I'm looking to buy a slim fit pair of jeans that won't make me look strung out and will look good with my more conservative style of dress. I just turned 25, I'm going back to school to finish my doctorate, etc.

Here's what I'm looking at right now:

    5EPx SF

    http://www.denimbaronline.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=404&DEPARTMENT_ID=38

I've head great things about 5EP denim, and the fact that the designers were open enough to listen the wants of a forum makes this very attractive to me. I like the clean lines, I like the color, I don't know how long the inseam is though.

    Earnest Sewn Fulton

    http://www.bluebee.com/product_display.aspx?l=00190119001103740000&p=ESM01230&pn=1&st=0#

My old pair of Fultons was tight as hell, it's one of the few cuts I had to size up on. But, I got more compliments on the fit whenever I was out than any other pair of jeans I owned. Since I already owned a pair I don't know if I want another though.

    Kicking Mule 1980

    http://www.denimbaronline.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=150&DEPARTMENT_ID=38#

I've yet to read anything bad about Kicking Mule except for maybe the price lol.

Fit looks good, color looks good, construction looks good.

Nudie Average Joe Dry Heavy Denim

    http://www.contextclothing.com/brands/nudie/average_joe_dry.php

I like the fact it's a heavier dark denim, might be a little warmer for the winters. There is a lot of hate around for the crotch in Nudies though, maybe the heavier denim would take care of this?

    Acne Mic in Raw

    http://www.denimbaronline.com/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=135&DEPARTMENT_ID=38#

I had a pair of Mics before, they were right behind my Fultons in terms of praise I received on fit.

    Nom De Guerre Classic fit

    Iron Army Hiro

    http://www.revolveclothing.com/DisplayProduct.jsp?product=IRON-MJ1&c=Iron+Army&d=b

I like the contrast stitching here, alot!

    Imperial Duke

    http://www.contextclothing.com/brands/imperial/indigo_duke.php

I really dig the longer inseam, it's hard for a taller guy like me to get good stacking and this would be ideal!

But I really, really hate those fucking pockets.

So thats it guys. I like the look of all of these jeans and to be honest, I think I've got in narrowed down to the KMW or 5ep, but I need some help. Feel free to offer any other makes and models up for suggestion as well!

  12. First time posting an outfit here, be gentle!

Jacket is a custom made Michael Krell racing jacket

T-shir is a generic print tee from filene's basement

Medallion is a cool antique one of a kind gold religious medallion. Can't see the detail on top there is an A wih angel wings, the middle is an eye, then the bottom is an upside down A with horns. The latin text around it basically means god is watching you, but don't forget the devil is too. It's about 2-3 hundred years old, I really like it.

    Jeans are levi 511s

Can't see the shoes but they are adidas samba 85s

Damn didn't know I couldn't link from there.

    Let me try this host:

  13. levis 501 stf's - 30 bucks

    you lose:p

Do shrink to fits magically taper and meld to my body?

I want to try on a pair but the 501 are a pretty loose cut on me so I'm curious as to what the actual results would look like.

  14. This afternoon I picked up a pair of 511s that I will hopefully have a pic of soon, curse my lack of a digital camera. The fit is great, a nice skinny leg with some great stacking at the bottom. The denim is nice and lightweight, so I think these jeans will see a lot of play come the summer. I don't like the almost girl like low rise on my pair, the wash is a little generic and I'd rather have buttons, but honestly it's one of the best fits I've ever had, and certainly beats the shit out of anything you're going to find for under 100 bucks. If you're not a brand whore and don't mind wear 50 dollars jeans and you're looking for a nice pair of slim jeans, I would seriously recomend lookin at the 511s.

  15. Ok, despite previously thinking to myself I was done with the look, I really want a new pair of skinny jeans now, especially with warmer weather coming where it's easier to rock the look with just a pair of skinny jeans and a t-shirt. I just measured my waist line where I normally wear my jeans. My waist where I wear my jeans (not my true waist) is a 32,my thighs are between 18-19 inches, and my calves are 14 inches. What brand should I be looking at here? I already have Cures from APC, but I'd like something new. I like the look of April 77s but I don't know if I could fit into them or not. Advice please?

  16. A question about fit: I really love the look of these jeans and just decided to officially measure my waist so I could order a pair online. Where I wear my jeans at measures a 32, my thighs are 18-19 inches at their thickest and my calves are slimmer than that. Can I fit into any of the cuts here? I really, really want a pair of discords but I don't want to look like an ass in them

Edit for the record the slimmest fit I've ever worn was a pair of Cures from APC and I took a 28 in that no problem, but they of course had insane APC stretch denim

  17. This might be an odd question but I feel hair style is as valid a part of one's personal fashion as a well fitting shirt or designer jeans. That being said, I hate my hair. It's thinning and receding, and just generally shitty. I'd go bald but I don't think I have the head for it.

Here are a few pics of me, yes I know my glasses are shitty and the pics suck but I don't have that many photos of myself. Advice?

  18. Based upon that website alone I never want to shop at uniqlo. Who in the fuck thought that the 'explorer' design was a good idea. "Hey guys lets make it so you have to mouse over 8000 windows, and when you do, you may or may not see an image. If you *do* get a picture it may or may not have any info."

    Morons.

  19. Dumb questions: I've decided to get a pair of Bootcut olas and I need to order them online.

1: How much should I size down? I like a slim fit but not skin tight, and I know that dry denim stretches like crazy. My normal waist is between 30-31. I wear a 30 in Earnest Sewn Fultons, and a 30 in Acne Mic Garages if that helps

2: Where is the best place online to order them from? I can find 30x34 but they are all washed, can I call a boutique and have them ship them to me? If so which one?

3: If all fails and I have to get washed, does the waist still stretch much or can I go with my true waist size?

Thanks in advance for the answers!
