  2. wasnt quite satisfied with the fit of the 0500 after first soak (hip flare + thighs werent fitting right), so i did a second soak to shrink it up a bit more. came out looking alot better. didnt realize the hip area of these are cut so big? regardless, love them

I just got some 0500s two days ago and the size of the hips is my only qualm. The waist fits tight but I still get some hip-flare. I think I dont have enough difference between my waist measurement and my hip measurement to fill these out (aka I have no ass).

Its not THAT bad, but for future reference what Samurai jeans have less of an increase from waist measurement to hip measurement (smaller hip measurement for a given size)? Hip measurements aren't readily available.

  3. Im asking for measurements from real live people on this forum who actually own the jeans and have dealt with shrinking and stretching. Samurai sizing is all over the place (different lots, shrink TO tag, shrink FROM tag). I dont trust just a sizing chart. I want a second opinion on jeans that are 300 dollars and are unsanforized and thus unreturnable after soaking.

THANKS FOR SHOWING ME THE SIZING CHART THOUGH SMARTASS.

  4. Can anyone comment on the inseam length of Rescues nowadays? My 2 older pairs of rescues (newest is about 1 year old) had raw inseams of 37-38". I hear now they come 34" raw?? Is this true?

  5. Nino, I soaked in hot water for several hours. This was a Lot 10 by the way.

    Before

    Waist: 34"

    Waist (Aligned): 35"

    Inseam: 37.25"

    Hips: 23"

    Thigh: 13"

    Leg Opening: 9.5"

    Rise: 11.5"

    After

    Waist: 34"

    Waist (Aligned): 35"

    Inseam: 35.25"

    Hips: 21.5"

    Thigh: 12"

    Leg Opening: 9"

    Rise: 10.5"

I kept a peice of wood in the waist to keep it from shrinking too much.

Thanks for the measurements, that helps alot. I might have to try your piece of wood in the waist technique.

  6. Here are some post soak, post stretch pics of my S5000VX. I can post pre-soak and immediately after post soak pics if anyone is interested. Started out as a 35" waist presoaked and ended up stretched to over 36" even after the soak. This has caused the ass to sag a bit. Still a comfortable fit.

    On edit: I am 6'3" 200lbs

My apologies if the pics are too big. Let me know and I can resize if necessary.

Im almost the same size as you and was thinking about a pair in size 36 but now youve got me thinking 34. Did you soak in hot water? Whats the thigh measurement? Thanks

  7. nah dude, you only need an exacto and a punch. if you're cutting the belt at the buckle, what you cut won't be visable. save yourself $20 and just slick the edges with the side of a sharpie marker and some water. all slicking does is smooth the edges and fibers, if it's a dyed belt you might not even need to do that. wet the raw edge a bit, wait a minute till it's dried and just a bit moist, then rub it with the side of the marker. it'll turn shiney...and slicked. no need for edge dressing, use some wax rom a candle or just leave it...and a slicker is simply a piece of plastic.

if you want to bevel, go ahead, but its a skill that takes a bunch of time to master, and really wont make much visual difference on the back of a belt anyways.

Right on, thanks Corter. About the groove for the buckle's prong, what is the best way to cut that?

  8. I'd like to point something out merely because there's all this talk of "limited editions"..

Just like my other company, Anti-Yo, we here at Self Edge are doing our special jeans in runs of 100 to 150 pairs not because we want to sell hype, but because we simply cannot afford to make more.

A small family run company like Self Edge cannot put up the money to produce more than that many at one time. You do realize it costs us ~$26,000 to do ONE run of a collaboration? There are very few boutiques in the world that can pay that amount of money in one lump sum, and when dealing with the Japanese, it can only be paid in one lump sum, the word "terms" is not within their vocabulary.

Just wanted to make sure our customers knew that we're producing low numbers purely because it's financially impossible for us to produce more.

Kiya, I totally understand the reasoning behind small runs, you are a small business afterall, and am in no way saying you are doing "limited editions" for the sake of limited editions, ala hype. I appreciate what your business brings to this niche market, I think I just misunderstood the popularity of that particular edition. If I was in need of jeans at the time I definitely would have bought some.
