  1. I noticed on the website that the Academi grey flame selvedge has resin coated weft thread. I presume from that statement that the warp thread is not resin coated. Is there any info on what effect this may have on fading or shrinkage?

  2. I really like the color and fit of these. It took little effort to get them on the first time, Sam is not joking about these being stiff denim. In direct sunlight they have a sheen which is more noticable in the embroidered mule picture. I altered the color to get the 1980 stitching to show better but the remaining pictures color was unaltered.

  3. Black jeans can be nice when you're in the mood for something different than indigo. I have the Samurai S5000BK and just got the Iron Heart 1634 21oz black with silver rivets. The IH looks very much like a really dark indigo jean, black with white weft. And the IH rise is a little less than the Imperial black jeans.

  4. Holy shit yeah I just tried out starching my jeans today and same thing happened.. The denim is like lightened by the starch. it's like it's been used in a construction site / been powdered. It is stiffer but why the fuck did it become like this? hmm? I followed all instructions...

Will this go away like will the starch just fall off as I use them and subject them to more wear or do I have to wash em to get rid of the whiteness?

I think the starch mix seperated and you are seeing the starch powder on you jeans. I occaisionally starch my shirts and have found that it works better to add the starch/cold water mix to boiling water. This cooks the starch and it keeps it from separating out of the water. Any corn starch powder works fine.

  5. The pairs I have are pretty much the same size. They slightly taper, but the leg/hem is wider than a lot of straight leg jeans. I think the angle of the camera and the jeans do not appear to be lying flat so it's making it appear to be wider than it actually is.

  6. It's a toss-up between S0110JX or 50500XX, i called blue in green and the lady that answered did not really speak English.

I'd try an email to BIG. I'm pretty sure it's on the website somewhere. The advantage of ordering from BIG is that you can exchange them if you really do not like the jean cut or the fit. I've ordered from both BIG and Toshiko and both are great to deal with, but I'm not sure if you can exchange jeans with Toshiko.

  7. I have the s5000bk in 36 and it measures about 13 at the crotch seam. I have the s0510xx in 35 and it measure about 12.5 at the crotch seam. s5000bk is lower rise than s0510xx (about an inch). Both taper about 1/2 inch from knee to hem. My waist is between 35 - 36 and thigh about 24 inches. I'm not familiar with the fit of the s0110xj, but the measurements make it appear to be about the same size as the s5000vx. I think any of these would work for you. I recommend you contact blue in green via email or call to get their size opinion. Also the raw jeans will be about 1 or 2 inches bigger than the tagged size to allow for shrinkage. Most people post that they will stretch about one size.

  8. Thanks. I bought these last summer and I think they were about 2 inches bigger than tagged size. I did a cold soak first and they did not shrink enough in the waist so I soaked hot and now they are right at the tagged size, but still a little loose in the waist on me. I've only worn them a couple of times and I'm not sure how they will stretch. If your waist measures 32, I would go with the 31.

  9. I have the S510xx19ozII and it fits loose. Gordon at BiG told me that Samurai jeans usually shrink to tagged size eventually. These have been hot soaked, size 36 and they measure just over 36. My actual waist measured between 35 and 36. I would recommend you stay with your normal size or even consider 1 size smaller (If I were to buy another pair, I would get 35). I slightly altered the color on these so the jeans fit would show up better.

  10. Sorry guys, jeffvyain is right about the sizing. I forgot that I went 1 size down on the s0500 because I wanted it to fit snug and the s5000bk fits a little loose in the seat/thigh on me. Tosiko at Samurai and Gordon at BIG both indicated that the s0500 are not as oversized initially as other Samurai jeans because Samurai does not expect this denim to shrink as much.

  11. I have both s0500 and s5000bk and they are quite different in fit. The s5000bk is lower rise, straight leg, and a little relaxed in the seat/thigh on me. The s0500 has a higher rise than s5000bk, slimmer in the seat/thigh and tapered leg. The denim has a completely different feel - thinner but very stiff - supposedly because the s0500 denim is made entirely of short cotton fiber that is tightly twisted and tightly woven. But I have not soaked the s0500 so its hard to say how the demin actually differs right now.

  12. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Samurai S0510XX III and the Samurai S510XX 19ozII, besides the denim weight? Are they basically the same jeans?

They are basically the same jeans.

  13. I have not worn the 19oz much because they were about 5" too long, cuffing them made a really thick cuff, and I bought some other jeans at the same time. But they are on the way back from being hemmed at big and I will definately start wearing them more often. I have not really noticed much difference with the S5000BK 17 oz compared to 14-15 oz jeans.

  14. You're supposed to lay them flat on their back (or butt), and measure the back waistband. Take that measurement and multiply by 2. Reason being is that the front waistband sits lower than the back and the back sits at your intended waist.

The Samurai site shows to measure the inside circumference to get the waist size - run the tape measure along the inside of the waist band. Good luck to all contestants. I'm looking forward to following the contest.
