  1. lester, try moulded shoes. I read about them on AAAC and went to the store once. The service is great even though I didn't buy anything. I think they do resoling at the store for about $80 or $90 and I'm thinking it won't take as long as sending them to back Alden. Also they'll give you any option for soles that Alden provides.

When you are there, see what other boots they have in your size, they have a limited amount of modified last shoes so it's definitely worth a trip.

BTW why don't you put up a pic of the shoes before and after resoling for us to envy. I'm wearing my Indy's pretty much everyday for 3 weeks and they still look brand spanking new since I'm just walking around NYC (and not fighting fire ants or russian nazis...). thanks in advance

sorry for the delay, here are some 'before' glamour shots, took the boots to moulded, 75$ for resole get them back this week will post after pics after

took them to the shop and the guy looked at them and said, good you wore them correct.

wear: 2.5 years hard almost daily

    maintenance: none

  2. hey some questions for you guys (i dont post here often, but i've been around this thread since its inception, way back when, was one of the early indy adapters, and its been pretty cool to follow the progression and see what you all are up to, shoe-wise) -- anyway, i'm pretty sure this is somewhere's in this thread, but if anyone could give me some quick info it'd be much appreciated:

    1) looks like i need to resole my indy's (2 and 1/2 years of hard wear and virtually no maintenance, is that reasonable?)

can someone recommend anyone in nyc (greg?) i know there are some minas fans, anyone know what he charges/ turnaround time? i'm really not so into the 135$ and 4-6 weeks wait to have the full alden factory re-working (unless of course anyone enthusiastically recommends it over one of the nyc guys (molded? minas? someone else?)

    again, any info/help greatly appreciated.

    also,

    2) a big reason for the wear and tear is that my indy's were such damn good shoes, it became increasingly difficult to even put any other 'lesser' shoe on, to the point where i b asically just wore em every day (i know, i know, yr not supposed to do that..) so when i get em' resoled, i'd like to also add a 'real' 2nd option, which would either be another pair of indy's (boring, but sound), or ... any red wing guys care to try and sway me? i'm more workboot oriented , so not looking at the dressier stuff (cap toes, chukkas, white's, et al..). the red wing 899's look interesting, a sort of round toe counterpart to the indy moc. but for the $$ are they at all worth it compared to indys? would i have the problem of 'wearing a lesser shoe' (keep in mind, i currently have some frye's, some vintage boots, and i'd even throw my AE oxfords and loafers in that category of stuff that just doesn't come close to that indy feel)

  4. who was it that was looking for vintage chino's? familyman? i think those 1915 j-mark chino's are pretty fucking cool.

anyone have any history/other info on them.

    or a price?

i still can't understand levi's, all this shit about them missing the boat on premium denim in the us, and here they have treasure troves of the shit, yet they only sell them in europe. and the handful of pairs in the nyc levi's store in retarded sizes. does not make sense

anyone know just how skinny the 606's are? i like te square top style, wish they came raw

  5. does anyone know when this will be in levi's stores in the states? or online?

cultizm- i emailed you about the leather ride the wild jacket, any chance on obtaining a size small? can you let me know hoe much bigger the medium is compared? i wear a 36 in the denim jacket

  6. miz-- on the assassin/mib shoe, before you drop the 275 on the leeds (which are very nice, don't get me wrong) you should look into the brooks brothers models, which incidentally are now made by alden (not the peal & co shoes, the line of shoes in the madison ave store that are just labeled brooks brothers, for real).

and they're on after christmas sale, you should be able to get a real good price, under 200 for sure.

  7. as for me, i just searched around the thrift shops for the 70's / 80's cords, , there's a ton of crap to sift through, usually find better lee selection than levi's, but if you look enough you can find some, i think the tan colored ones go best with denim jacket

  8. actually there is an lvc cord repro, the 1966 extremely slim fit straight ones, probably similar to 60's model 505's. i,e. very slim

seems like they only sell them in euroland, if at all.

check out the levi's UK site, or check out one of the euro/japan sites had info on them, don't remember which one

  9. yeah just saw the 1967 type 3, fucking levi's stores, making me give them all my cash. the 14th street store is by far the best one they;ve got. i didn't even know it was there until i stumbled by it today. their was some real nice stuff besides the jackets too. i didn't really like the blouse, the frilly front didn't suit me, but the chance to break in a fucking sick raw big E 1967 trucker jacket, i can't say no to that.

can people who have gone through this process with the jacket shed some light on what to expect, shrinkage wise, how you broke it in, washed it, etc... is it just the same as like a pair of jeans?

if i wear a size 36 in the reg. washed trucker, do i go to the 38? or the 40?

and that bunkhouse shirt, if anyone on this board actually spends 250$ on that they should be shot. that thing is a flimsy piece of cloth, you couold make the same exact shirt yourself.

wasn't too thrilled with the shorthorn denim shirt, i've seen better, and for that price you could go to a good thrift shop and get 4 or 5 of em'

and did anyone check out those leather goods they were selling? the old style envelopes? or satchels? those were pretty cool looking.

  10. the leather reminds me of my roper's, that pebbly feel, and they wear in great (though mine are probably forever banished into the back of my closet, along with all the rest of my non-alden shoes)

great looking boot though, i'm still curious about Frye's longterm quality, for my sake as well (as compared to, oh say, the indy boots, etc..)

  11. ha

i bought em anyway. for some wierd reason and against all my integrity i stopped into urban outfitters on the way back from work and they sell them (fittingly)

they will undoubetedly be returned as soon as i get off my ass and look around thrifting downtown/brooklyn

    p.s

D.C., do you have any balls?

  12. ok, i saw these online and got pretty excited- been looking for those vintage-esque early 70's looking white tab cords, the perfect day off from my 47's, especially in the fall. for years levi's had those shit fitting 505 cords with the red tab that they labeled as a return to their classic cord. that's bullshit #1. then last season a lightbulb goes off and they go back to the white tab--but wait, they have to only mke em in a ridiculously exxgerated completely unwearable bootcut.(bullshit 2)

so this year's slim or skinny or whatever they call them finally gives me some hope--

(not too crazy about the colors- oxblood? give me a fucking break, what's wrong with maroon?)

i go to try them on and wow, they actually fit fucking great, slim fit like my 47 cut, but with a very stretchy loose waist, that perfect slim fit, the only thing is-- the goddamn fly is literally like a half inch. WHY? who the fuck where's their pants like that and is not a female? are they marketing for eunachs? it fucksup an otherwise great fitting/looking pair of pants, looks like that gay skinner or offender premium crap, or like yur wearing women's pants (which i know is popular with alot of you, but i'm clearly not into that whole look)

why can't levi's get anything new right? what the fuck is going on. you would think that someone in charge there woiuld realize how retarded their new products are (not to get completely off topic but has anyone tried on that new slim trucker jacket? again looks good, right idea, fits retarded, it cme up about 4 inches too high, like mid back, also the new gingham snap western shirts, classic western look, retarded modern pocket design and, again, the slim fir was better, but still awkward and not really right) . the most retarded thing is that the best stuff they make (lvc) incorporates zero design changes or any other useless crap, you would think someone there would get the hint and just apply that to the regular levi's stuff.

anyway, sorry for this lengthy ran, and i know this topic has been discussed to death before, i just was frustrated and needed to get it off my chest. if anyone has any suggestions for the RIGHT white tab cords, plese let me know. (any japanese repros out there?) i'd rather buy a new pair of pants than thrift store.

  13. yeah, ny, it's on 39th between 5th and 6th, not exactly the fancypants madison avenue type store, actually exactly the opposite. i found the info on the alden main website.

according to the salesman, the lighter ones can just be polished with whatever shade darker polish, though i wonder how they would wear in when they get all thrashed, personally i don't ever really take care of my non-dress shoes, and though these are clearly quality wise much nicer than any of my dress shoes, they're still "workboots" i personally don't like to treat boots so finnicky.

definitely glad i got the darker ones.

    walking on air today

  14. the lighter ones are hard to find these days too, in nyc anyhow.

    the cordovan's were 535.

and they can all be polished to get the different shades of leather, they recommended the kiwi stuff.

they waterproofed em' for me too.

easily the best pair ofshoes i've ever set foot in.

  15. i gotta thank airfrog first, his idea originally.

also hve to blow up my new favorite shoe repair store/women's orthodics specialist/dingy east 39th street hole in the wall been making custom shoe store since world war II/ALDEN DEALER (with ridiculous backstock dating back years, they had 5 different colors to choose from, not to mention some versions of the other boots that i've never even seen before)

    moulden, ask for maurice
