  1. i think Paul T's mentioned that Levi's will not disclose the corresponding locations to their number codes, company secret or something...or i might have remembered wrongly.

What's Levi's problem. If they don't want people to know about their products, why do they go to the trouble of stamping numbers on ths backs of the rivets. And with people trashing Levi's left and right, you would think that they would actually try to INFORM people who actually give a crap about their decling products.

  2. The buttons create distinctly spaced horizontal stress lines at the botton points, which zippers can't do as well. With wear, these stress lines become whiskers.

  3. Has anyone cracked the code on the inner tag of the 501s. I guess they mean something to Levi Strauss company people, like maybe the date of munufacture, the finish and the place and the model (that, I have figured out). I've read the posts here, and while some of the numbers have been figured out (eg, 555 means SF), the rest is pretty mysterious to me. Anyone ever figure this out or can point me to it?

  4. just incase you still wanted a picture. here is a pic of my 936 slimfit that i got today

Do u like them full? I find they seem to run smaller in the waist than Levis, meaning they can be a little baggy. But yours look real nice.

  5. You can wash raw denim like any other denim, you just wont get the distressing like you would if you wore them without washing for a while. You will still have a nice, sturdy pair of jeans, the color will just be more uniform and fade all over with time and washing. So if you want a lot whiskers and honeycombs and wallet fade then you are better off not washing often. If you just want nice, quality jeans, then you can wash whenever you want. You will still get the fading, but it wont be as contrasted, depending on how often you wash them.

    .

The contrast has less to do with washing than with stiffness. There's more contrast when new jeans becuase new stiff jeans abrade more on the whiskers ridges. If you starch them after washing, they will whisker just as well washed or otherwise. In fact, since washing removes the abraded indigo, there may be more contrast after regular washing..

  7. to get this board rolling, i'm suggesting a thread where people can educate people and cut down on the 'use the search button' comments. how about one about dry denim. why you wear it, why you like it, how to care for it, how you care for it, how to wash it without losing color, what to request from the dry cleaner/dry cleaning tips, soaking it, shrinkage, etc....

The links go to the home page. Please check it. Thanks

  8. At the thrift stores here, the only jeans I ever see are Old Navy crap. Goodwill, Salvation army people skim off anything decent b4 it ever hits the floor.

I was lookin at the mwz's yesterday online and saw them dirt cheap... I dont know how they fit though... the rise looked REALLY high in the picture and I'm not tryin to look like Buster Bluth... any insight from the people who own them?

I love the 13MWZ. But it is pretty different from any Levi's products including the 501. Think dressy cowboy. They fit more like trousers, with a high-rise, fairly full across the front, seat and thighs. Although fairly full, the seat looks more snug than it actually is. While not a boot cut, they have a straight leg that is wide enough to fit over boots. The denim on the rigid 13MWZ is lighter in color and more blue and less indigo Levi's. Also, it shrinks about 3% as opposed to 10% for the 501. If you want something a little snappier, try the slim fit 936 cowboy cut, which fits a bit like the old orange tab 505 Levi's.
  10. I'm pretty sure that what you are describing is just the stiffness of the new denim. Once you start getting whiskering and abrasion that means the fibers are breaking down (in a good way), which will allow the jeans to drape better and become more formfitting.

I just recently purchased some Made in the USA stf's and the denim is fuzzier than any of the currnet international made ones. Does anyone know if this is normal ? and will these wear differently than the newer ones? Besides that, I think the fit in the seat is better than the newer ones.

That has been my experience with made in the USA Levi's of all types. The denim was fuzzier and slubby, particularly after a little wear. Clearly, they must have been using a different source for the denim in their U.S. manufacturing. Just how it was different is not as clear. I have read some posts that say it was ring spun denim, but I have my doubts, as it is my understanding that Levi's Strauss stopped using ring spun denim well before it moved production out of the United States. It's a shame really, because I have a couple of really nice pairs of orange tab 505s that use the kind of denim you're referring to and I really like them.
