  1. Those H&M kids organic cotton selvedge jeans are great. Bought a pair of them in a size 14 and they fit great on me(5'8" - 33" waist) after some stretching. The waist went from a 31" to 32.5" after a day and a half of wear. My only beef with them is that since they're kids' jeans, the pockets tend to be a bit shallow.

The cut is slim but not skinny. And for 30 bucks Canadian, it just can't be beat!

  2. hi, im wondering if they sell levis 501 STF in canada...i read that most people buy theirs at their local Sears and what not but i've been to 2-3 Sears, they do not have it...went to The Bay (sorta equivalent to Belk) they dont have it either...i need to check the Levis Store now....i wonder if they have it...

also for Gap raw selvedge...do they still make it or is it discontinued, and are they sold in Gap canada?

    thanks

You can get 501 STF's from jcpenney.com. I've ordered Levi's(511's, 520's & 514's) on numerous occasions and have never been charged duty. I believe their fulfillment center for Canadian orders is located in Ontario, as indicated by their shipping address. In fact, the STF's are on sale now for $37+shipping, which is around $10 for each item.

  3. I find wetting the fabric down with a mixture of fabric softener and water instead of just plain water helps the stretching. Just put a couple of tablespoons of concentrated fabric softener into a small spray bottle and spray the waistband area and wear them when they're still damp. It's also great for use as a wrinkle release spray, too.

  4. the fit on these is so nice, but the denim quality is absolutely horrible.

i dont know if thats the same with the black or indigo but with the washed black, the denim with about 2 months of wear, is seethrough in some spots.

I NEED THIS FIT WITH JAPAN QUALITY! can anyone help me out with that?

I have two pairs of the black-blue colored ones(rail) and the fabric definitely feel thinner compared to the soft rigid finish. I'd suggest picking up a couple of pairs of those instead.

  5. for the 511s with stretch, how much does the waist stretch after reasonable wear? should i size up to account for the stretching?

You can expect about 1" - 1.5" stretch in the waist, with reasonable wear(nothing strenuous like skateboarding or biking). I wear a 32" waist and with the stretch 511's, I usually get them 1 size down so that after a couple of week, they fit just perfect and is not too tight.

  6. I bought two pairs of the Soft Rigid finish 511's off Ebay. It is not raw, but more of a one-wash and the fabric looks similar to a pair of rinse finish 501's.

Compared to the Riff 511's, the denim just slightly heavier and is 100% cotton, no spandex. I bought one pair in 30"x32" for a tight fit and one pair in 33"X30"(I usually wear a 32" waist) for a looser fit and after almost a week and a half of solid wear and no wash, the 30" waist pair has stretched to 31.5".

I machine washed the 33X30 pair in warm water(inside out) followed by an 80 minute trip in the dryer and the waist had shrunk about 1/2". Indigo loss was very minimal and the fabric didn't get fuzzy like you'd washed a pair of 501 STF's. The fit is very flattering with a nice slight taper that I've always wanted in a pair of Levis.

  7. I think those jeans in the commercial are fake. They look like some old skool Sergio Valente or women's Jordache. They also look like they've been computer generated or enhanced. I feel sorry for the actor's nut sack.

  8. Nairb,

The jean jacket's brand is called GWG - which stands for Great Western Gear(out of Western Canada-possibly Alberta). It used to make mainly cowboy gear(kinda like Wranglers) as well as workwear and casual wear. The brand dates back to possibly the 50's and earlier, but I rememeber wearing them in the early 70s to the early 80s until the company's demise in the late 80s.

The Kings line is actually called Cowboy Kings and goes way back. It was shortened to GWG Kings in the early 70s. I had a very similar jacket to yours(which I had bought in 1983 as 60s deadstock). And if my memory serves me correctly, it had a GWG Kings patch on the left front pocket.

Here is a similar GWG jacket from the 70s(from of all places, Ebay UK):

And a pair of deadstock womens polyester jeans from the 70s that shows the GWG Kings logo in better detail:

  9. I also had a hard time finding places that would ship to Canada as well.

    Try this place:

    http://www.onlinesales4less.com/Levis/index.htm

I live in Vancouver, B.C. and I've ordered twice from them since late December, 2005(two pairs of Levis 514 Slim Fits).

Prices and shipping is a little bit high - STF is $42.00US and shipping(by USPS) is $12.00US, but no taxes if shipped to outside of California.

No problems with the orders so far, but it did take them about a week to get my jeans for shipping. Very polite to deal with. Shipped to my mailbox at work and no duty(I don't know if there's duty applied to clothing as each order was under $60US).

    Hope that helps!
