I wear dry APC New Standards at the moment (33") that fit perfect. There's a bit of stretch as I've got footballer's thighs, but otherwise they're just loose enough to not be skinny, and just tight enough to not be baggy.

I'd like something similar in grey, but the grey APCs are just the wrong colour. They're almost beige in reality! Also, I don't want black jeans washed out look grey, but with black coming through on the pockets and ankles, etc. Nudies seem to look like this.

Just a matt grey finish across the whole jean, that's fairly slim round the ankles to wear with my brown APC cuban heels, and not to skinny round my manly thighs and arse.

So over to you - I trust your expert opinions, and will be eternally gratefull for any responses!

I've spied a nice pair in London that I may get. Cinchback dark denim, but not raw selvedge, with small coloured PS signature-strip embroidery on the pocket and inside-leg seam. Straight leg w/ slightly loose fit.

Downside: Made in China and $350...

Basically, you want decent transport links to wherever you're working. Since you don't say, I'll guess the West End or City.

South London's transport links are worse than North of the river. People in Clapham, Tooting, Balham etc generally rely on the Northern Line, which is the worst on the Tube. They're also furthest away from the best action which is in Soho (central) and Hoxton/Shoreditch (east).

South-West - Chelsea, Fulham, Putney, Wimbledon etc - is attractive but expensive, and, if I had to be prejudiced, full of public-school educated, rugby-playing twats.

The pick of the places in North London - for me - are Islington and West Hampstead. Ok, quite middle class and established, BUT decent tube lines, taxis will take you there after a late night and not too far away from the action. Still decent facilities locally - restuarants, bars - if you don't wanna venture out. You don't want to be wrecked 24/7 do you?

If so, try living in Soho. Right slap-bang in the middle.
